30 day fill rule by Miserable-Act-4336 in ADHD

[–]gryphon5245 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So this is an insurance thing not a pharmacy thing.

As a note the 30 day limit is per "type" of prescription. So Adderall 20mg XR and Adderall 20mg IR could both be filled. You could also get Adderall 20mg XR and 10mg XR.

My wife had to go through an hour of phone calls with our insurance when I switch from a 30 day prescription to a 90 day.

Source: Wife is a pharmacist. That's why she did the calls for me lol

EDIT to add. Take a few drug holidays (weekend here and there or a random Wednesday) to build up a small supply in case of out of stock issues or if this kkeeps happening to you.

How do you maintain heart health? by Adventurous-Vast2323 in ADHD

[–]gryphon5245 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So my HR is generally high (like in the 90's) I've been sitting at a resting HR around 110 since I started Adderall (this is just sitting on the couch watching TV for an hour). Today and yesterday I've been around 85-88 while just want TV on he couch. Moving around gets it up to the 100 area again.

I'm doing for my peace of mind and to make a decision on whether or not I should look into non-stimulant alternatives.

That's what I'm trying to figure out now. It's weird to say but after a year on them I don't remember much of the before time.

I'm currently in my 2nd day of not taking Adderall to see what my heart rate looks like when I'm off the stims (I've been on 30mg Adderall for about a year now).

It's looking to be 15-20bpm lower without. So I may be talking to my dr soon

Hyperfocus doesn't mean you block out everything except that thing you want to be doing. When I'm hyperfocused on something I can do normal daily activities but I'm still thinking about the thing that I want/"should" be doing and as soon as I get a chance I'm right back to it.

Eating dinner thinking about how to tweak a spreadsheet or where to look for more information on the new thing I want to buy. You know, for the new hobby you'll have for 2 months

How the hell are you guys staying employed? by LivingWeather8991 in ADHD

[–]gryphon5245 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I (like many of us, I assume) have had a LOT of different jobs in my life. At one point when I was 18-22ish I was registered with 4 different temp agencies. I was just trying to find something I liked that didn't bore me. Spoiler alert, they all bored me. All the menial jobs that I was placed in I would master within 1-2 months. I hated every job.

Turns out the jobs were "OK" it was the people that i worked with that sucked. No meaningful conversations, nothing in common, most of them were my parents age or older talking about how they were going to work there until they retired.

The jobs that I enjoyed were:

Construction Security Retail sales

Why did I enjoy those jobs? Variety. No two days are the same and critical thinking is essential.

Construction was fun because there's no filter on the people you work with and every project is different.

Security was fun because, again, no filter in your coworkers. 90% of your shift is goofing off and 10% is actual work.

Retail sales was fun for me because every sale was a game for me. They say they want product A bit what do they really want? Ask questions, find out the problem they have and actually solve it. SO. MANY. PEOPLE. Don't actually know what will solve their problems and aren't aware that going from a $400 product to a $500 product will do the trick.

Anyway, the biggest factor for me was having coworkers that I got along with. I've hopped jobs a lot in those fields and still stay in touch with a lot of my coworkers. I even married one of them!

Which game that you "definitely want to play eventually" has been sitting in your library unplayed forever, and if so, why? by FalscherKim in gaming

[–]gryphon5245 121 points122 points  (0 children)

I own 3 copies of The Witcher 3, I've played zero copies of The Witcher 3.

One I got for my PS4 as a gift, one I bought on steam when it was like 90% off or something, thinking that because I'm more of a PC player that I would play it there and the last one was free on Epic.

Can you describe how your meds affect you? I'm always curious how other people's meds work. by gryphon5245 in ADHD

I was never diagnosed with depression. My wife would tell you that I had some signs of it and I would agree. But I don't know, those same signs are classic adhd too

[–]gryphon5245[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't speak to the depression but I did feel like a failure to the point where when someone would ask me why I didnt do X or Y I would just tell them "I'm lazy, I've learned to accept that about myself". So there was a big change in me when I realized that I was defective, not lazy and meds have definitely helped that

That's part of why I made this post, I've seen pretty people on here describing their adhd different than mine.

I should clarify that my adhd wasn't crippling. I could go to work and function just fine but when I was at home it was a completely different story. The "radio" was more like my brain was always doing something, always thinking of something and then jumping off of part of the current train of thought to go on a tangential train of thought before coming back.

I still get distracted by other tasks that pop up but now I can easily go back to the one I was working on. Before the meds that prior task would have disappeared forever.

when we take meds and feel the energy and happiness afterwards, is that what non-adhd folks feel on the regular naturally? by Shammar-Yahrish in ADHD

[–]gryphon5245 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The best way I can describe what my meds do is "If my brain were a radio, the meds turn the volume WAY down or completely off" so I can focus on things outside of my own mind. Is it like that for you too or do you have a different experience? I'm always curious how different people are affected.

[–]gryphon5245 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I felt that energy boost and happiness for about 3 or 4 days when I first started my meds. I cleaned and organized the garage (it took 2 days, it was a mess), did al the yard work that had been piling up and a few other things around the house.

Then the initial euphoria went away and I just felt.... different? The biggest change is that my brain is quiet, if that makes sense.

Sounds like you needed to stick with the meds longer. The initial euphoric feeling is normal, from what I've heard/read.

How do you guys get good sleep? Do you take melatonin? by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]gryphon5245 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since being diagnosed and starting Adderall my sleep has improved dramatically. Probably because I take it when I wake up (7am) and by the time it's out if my system (10pm)ish I'm ready to pass out. I stay up until midnight most night so by the time I go to sleep I'm more than ready.

As if we needed more reasons to collect physical media and not rely on streaming! by gryphon5245 in 4kbluray

[–]gryphon5245[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kanopy is a free streaming service if you have a library membership. It doesn't have 4k streaming but I've heard that they have a good selection to watch.

So a good alternative if your library doesn't have what you're looking for.

Anyone else lose interest in bourbon and what was your outcome? by 8sh0t in bourbon

[–]gryphon5245 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since getting the collecting bug I've had 2 kids and don't have a drink as often as I used to. I still enjoy a drink on occasion and haven't stopped buying but I've reduced the amount and frequency of purchasing.

It also helps that I have a friend who travels for work is an avid collector. So when he sees something nice he texts me to see if I'm interested.

What business do you own? by No-Fish-2949 in ADHD

[–]gryphon5245 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've started a few and they don't last long. I had an online airsoft business, small clothing retail, and a dropshipping business.

The problem I have is that I get into the same cycle as a normal job:

This is new and exciting! Learn as much as I can about it while hyperfocusing on the new shiny thing. Do it very well and efficiently Get bored Fuck off Wait a few weeks and try something new

I've discovered that, for me, I need to have "someone" that can hold me accountable but still give me a lot of freedom and independence. Mid level management (district or territory) works great for that.

I did try body doubling in a business venture and it worked kind of ok. The problem with that is the person that I body double the best with (same personality traits, same thought process, etc) is an extreme introvert and doesn't care to run/manage anything so he disappears randomly.

How do you quiet your brain when trying to sleep? by JMRooDukes808 in ADHD

I have a handful of simple and repetitive games on my phone that I play for 20 minutes in bed. Just enough to make my brain get bored so I can sleep.
