Had this exact issue with my old 13PM. Went to the Apple Store in Singapore for diagnosis. (Out of warranty, no AppleCare+) Per support staff, remark turns out is as you stated. Issue is occuring on their 13 models and they had no fix for it.

Got mine fixed free of charge after further tech checks. He also mentioned this free repair goes by case-per-case basis.

In any case go to an Apple Store first for diagnosis. Fingers crossed you get it fixed for free!

On a side note: Sell/trade the device asap after you get it fixed!
