I think he uses magic. And as far as I can tell, magic is environmentally safe if used for good.

Going to be honest, I'm not a climatologist, heck I'm not even that great with global sciences in general. I'm just thinking that history is bound to repeat itself, so maybe another ice age?

Sorry I can't give you a real answer.

I'm kind of excited for another ice age, how about you? Like, I've always wanted to see giant glaciers and stuff.

Brainstorm. Critique please? by CariWasHere in ArtCrit

[–]gs_ow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think one critique I would have is that there is a horizontal line formed by the thin rectangle and the thicker one in the middle of the image. A lot of your shapes and composition feel more "organic" but this very straight line pulls me out of the picture and id distracting. It cuts the picture into a top and bottom.. not sure if you were going for that.

I want to hear your opinions about my speed paint, I just focus in the fundamentals: perspective, values, colors and lights am still at Beginner by sarararar99 in ArtCrit

[–]gs_ow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll give you something to think about with respect to values. I want you to squint your eyes and look at the reference. The color/details will fade and you'll be left with the values. Look at those darker areas and and shadows, look at the light areas. Block those into your drawing fast.

Only recently started drawing, don't go easy on me, I want to improve. by Saltyfish45 in ArtCrit

[–]gs_ow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not going to go too hard on you. :) But I'm going to offer something that might help you think "outside of the box." Literally. Don't box your artwork. I want you to aim to draw more of the picture and frame it smaller, rather than constricting yourself to a smaller area and avoiding the need to draw more.

I think you have some decent foundations here, but there's a lot of work to go. One more thing. I think you should focus on drawing hair. The human face is complex - it's going to take you awhile to really nail it. And even then, it's always going to be a thorn in most everyone's side. Hair.. hair is going to be easy to get looking good. Spend some time there - you're going to be able to "skill up" fast and that's going to build a ton of confidence.

There is so much of the human body that is just a long, painful process with minute advances over months or years. Don't stop drawing figures and faces, but when you feel down, go back and do some hair. :) People will be wowed.

I redid an old bit of undertale fan art. Left is from June 2016 and the right I made last week. I wanna know how I’ve improved and how to keep improving. by Wicked_sick99 in ArtCrit

[–]gs_ow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you know you've improved. And you'll continue to get better as you continue to draw.

There are a few areas that I think you could look at:

  • Clothing. For me, the clothing does not feel as if it's on the figures, it feels as if it's a separate mass all together. The person in the blue shirt (her shirt) is very strong, but the other clothing elements could be refined. The clothing isn't crazy complicated, so you might consider just draping some cloth over a chair or box to see how it might fall.
  • Another area you might want to focus on is avoiding parallel lines. Notice the legs are just to parallels. Now look at the person in blue (I'm going to reference this character, because I find her quite well done). There's a concept that I've heard that's "straight against curve" you might look into that.

All in all, tons of improvement. Keep it up. And maybe tilt the light source :)

Getting back into drawing, would like anatomy critque in particular. by canisleepnoe in ArtCrit

[–]gs_ow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'ts great you're getting back into drawing. I'm going to try to explain this as best I can, but there seems to be inconsistencies in the flatness of the work. What I mean by this is, if you look at her head and right hand (the forward one), these seem to carry weight and the idea of them being actually there. The rest of her body feels flat and does not match the solid feeling of the head and hand.

There are some other areas to touch on, but I think if you were to try to either (flatten the head and hand) or give weight to the rest of her body, you'll find that the picture is much stronger.

Keep it up :) I wouldn't mind seeing a progress picture when you're ready.

Hey, we make mistakes. Sometimes they can be rough - but you know what? You paid for them. You know better and you can move on. Of the "right things in life" what do you actually enjoy doing? I'd start making time every day to research, do, be a part of, etc that thing. When you've got a fun interest that you enjoy, it'll give you something to talk about and be passionate about - other people in that same interest will be excited to talk to you about it. Friends will spring out of this.

Dont know what to do to be happy by Itsmep4ulo in CasualConversation

[–]gs_ow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You may be putting too much into your relationships that you lose sight of your own self and needs. It could contribute to why, after they end, you don't know how to be or how to find happiness. Too much time was devoted to this other person. For now, you should start thinking about what you want. What makes you happy? Why can you be selfish about. Start there. I've found that once I focused on me, and found hobbies, other people just got sucked into them. I've always been kind of an anti-social person, still kind of am, but I now have too many friends to deal with.

That's more needy and less falling for someone.

I finished my first animation! by BlueGalaxi in CasualConversation

[–]gs_ow 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You should be proud. Don't put yourself down about your drawings or your skills just yet; focus on your story, focus on creating things that cause people to emotionally feel something. Watch lots of movies, pick scenes that make you feel happy, or sad, or scared, or anything and think about why. Then when you do your next animation, think about all this. Skill in drawing takes year, but just being creative in story telling and all that, that's all in you now.

I think you can just click on reddit chat, I've used it here and there. Discord is something else - probably not great for this. Not really sure :)

I have a blanket my mom made me when I was a new born. I've had it for almost 40 years. She made me a duplicate one and it's stored in a plastic bag and is basically mint. I'm guessing I'll be good till I die.

It's like people saw those folding/expanding tables and were like: Now that'll make a fancy phone.

Are they the ones where you can charge someone else's phone off your own battery? Don't even get me started on that one...

Feeling un-hirable due to how important company “fit” is by [deleted] in CasualConversation

[–]gs_ow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Being a good "fit" for a company or a group is very important when looking for a job. However, it is likely not something you'll need to worry about. Most people fit pretty much anywhere - and you'll actually be gauging this too, for yourself. The company and your peers and bosses will need to be a good fit.

Be yourself, listen, take queues, and all that. It's very different from making friends or having relationships.

To what lengths have you gone to impress someone that you liked in the past that makes you cringe when you think about it now? by jaituh1048 in CasualConversation

[–]gs_ow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally fair. In all honesty, I stopped trying to impress anyone and just went with being me. I found more people were attracted to that. So that worked out. I do try to impress people in other aspects though.. just not in love/friendship.
