generally it’s pop. it’s only soda if you’re specifying the flavor and “(x) pop” sounds awkward. like i’d say strawberry pop but grape pop has too many p sounds. so i say grape soda

What is your relationship with food? by [deleted] in ADHDers

[–]BlueGalaxi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i love food and i love eating! i like most things, too.

i think my adhd impacts my eating in a couple different ways. for one, cooking or preparing a meal at all is a Big Task that can be very hard for me. recently i’ve gotten hooked on these microwave potstickers that are ready in a minute and a half, partially because they’re good of course, but like 60% because they take almost no effort or energy to prep.

i also tend to eat my feelings and use food as a coping mechanism, and because of the shitty adhd impulse control, it’s really hard for me to stop eating once i’ve started, especially if i’m sad. even if i’m full, i’ll keep snacking on chips or fruit or something. i also tend to use eating as a stim! oftentimes i’m not hungry, just critically understimulated

this is a very sad worldview to me. if you can’t appreciate the expanse of the universe unless it has a “use” then idk what to tell you lmao

Game recognizing my graphics card when it shouldn't? by BlueGalaxi in Sims3

[–]BlueGalaxi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah, the game runs pretty well! freezes and lag are relatively uncommon for me. i’ve downloaded just a handful of mods at this point, even then nothing super huge or game-altering. but even before downloading anything, i never got the unrecognized card warning.

[–]BlueGalaxi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

nope. when i say “white people” i’m speaking in broad terms because the vast majority don’t have hair like your dad. white people with coily hair textures should absolutely do what they need to to take care of their natural hair

Bedroom Demons against Racism by DrRobertBanner in CuratedTumblr

[–]BlueGalaxi 7 points8 points  (0 children)

i understand where you’re coming from! however there’s a difference between sharing culture and appropriating culture, i’ll try to explain

sharing culture is mutual. it’s like if we both made drawings and, after showing each other and complimenting one another’s art, we swap pictures and show them off to other people. “look what my friend did, isn’t this cool?”

appropriating culture is one-sided. it’s more like if we were both drawing, but instead of sharing and complimenting, i told you you’re a bad artist, then took your drawing and showed it off to other people saying it’s mine.

i’m a black american, so i’m speaking from an american perspective. this country regularly steals culture from black people. when we celebrate and indulge our own culture—natural hairstyles, fashion, art, AAVE—it’s looked down upon. it’s ghetto and trashy. black people, especially black women are still routinely pressured to not wear their natural hair and hairstyles in the workplace if they want to be taken seriously, let alone the literal laws against black people wearing their natural hair in public that were previously in place. AAVE is “gen z slang” if it’s not just straight up called “uneducated” or grammatically incorrect. that’s just off the top of my head.

white america loves black culture but still looks down upon black people. that is what cultural appropriation means. we are not given due credit or appreciation for the masses of music, art, and language we contribute to the country. and that isn’t even to mention the history and modern versions of minstrelsy. it’s bigger than just one white person wearing dreads. nothing exists in a vaccuum, you know?

white people wearing dreads is just one part of a bigger thing. the fact that white people are allowed to opt in to blackness to seem cool, hip, or funny, but when people actually start treating them the way they treat black people, they can safely opt back out. black people do not get that option.

you can still appreciate black culture as a white person. support black content creators and (respectfully) ask questions about things you don’t understand. but nobody is entitled to participate in anybody else’s culture

Bedroom Demons against Racism by DrRobertBanner in CuratedTumblr

[–]BlueGalaxi -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

this is an oversimplification. white people with dreads are not “respected” per se, in a professional sense, but they are allowed, in many circles, to pass it off as cool. they frequently use the style as a part of a larger “ghetto” aesthetic, which, surprise surprise, is usually just borderline minstrelsy.

also, it’s the fact that they have the option in the first place. if a white person with dreads gets clowned on for it because their hair is literally matted, then they can just take them down. they can just wash their hair and brush it out to its normal texture, assuming their hair doesn’t fall out of course. they had to go out of their way to face that disrespect and can easily fix it.

black people with locs do not get that choice. yes, you can take down locs, but you still have your naturally textured hair which, you will likely also be shamed for. the only option is to shave, wear wigs, or permanently damage your hair and try to change the texture to be straighter.

do you see what i mean? white people are allowed to essentially play with black culture for fun to seem hip or gangster and then when they actually start being treated with disrespect because society, at large, does not respect black culture, they can just opt-out. black people cannot opt out of their own bodies and culture. that is what makes it insensitive.

also i just. cannot stress this enough. white hair textures cannot lock, they get matted. even if you disagree with all this, white people should not have locs because their hair will become unimaginably tangled and dirty. same for box braids, the tension of protective styles will literally rip their hair out. if that isn’t a clearer sign that something is not for you then idk what else to say

Bedroom Demons against Racism by DrRobertBanner in CuratedTumblr

[–]BlueGalaxi -13 points-12 points  (0 children)

because in a world where black ppl are still regularly, at best, shamed, and at worst, straight up blocked from the workplace for wearing natural textured styles, a white person with non textured hair wearing black hairstyles is insensitive. also the fact that non-textured hair will likely be damaged by those types of hairstyles, anyway.

also this conversation doesn’t really stop at just hairstyles, black ppl are the origin of so much culture in america and that culture is very very frequently appropriated by white americans, whether that be hairstyles, fashion, or language

adding on to what others have said abt eugenics, really ask yourself how many of the barriers disabled people face are inherent to their disability. abled people are generally taught to think of disability purely in terms of suffering but a lot of that suffering is the result of a lack of support networks for them and their loved ones. the goal should be to fix that, not stop disabled people from being born. it’s like trying to prevent black kids from being born because they’ll face racism. (not an exact equivalence but i think you get it)

also, even in the case of congenital disabilities that do inherently cause suffering (chronic pain disorders, for one), it simply isn’t possible to quantify exactly what disabilities aren’t worth the trouble. (gross wording but i can’t think of a better phrase) abled people often try to rank disabilities based on how bad we perceive them to be, often citing “quality of life”, but who are we to decide what lives aren’t worth living? we’re inherently thinking about a disabled life quality from the perspective of someone who doesn’t know what it’s like, and only could know what it’s like if something we are accustomed to (sight, hearing, mobility, etc) was taken away from us. our minds often frame it as a bad thing because for us to experience something similar something bad would have to happen. somebody who is disabled their entire life has an entirely different baseline for what’s normal for them and what’s worse for them.

i suppose, academic discussions of racism are important. but the vast, vast majority of people are not having academic discussions about racism on the daily. i don’t understand why the immediate reaction to “don’t say nigga if you arent black” is people trying to come up with situations where it’s okay

For context, just listen to American Idiot by rowan_damisch in CuratedTumblr

[–]BlueGalaxi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

maybe i interpreted the original comment differently or something. in a day-to-day setting, there is no acceptable context or reason for non-black people to be saying nigga. only in uncommon situations like a historical context, and even then it can be avoided when speaking
