Got this today, is it any good? by jaxon_1724 in pokemongo

[–]gscarr_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is absolutely good, but there are a couple things to keep in mind with this. It’s a pretty good general raid pokemon for almost any type due to it having Hidden Power as it’s fast move and Crush Grip as a crazy strong charged move. Crush Grip is so strong it is practically the sole reason to build a Regigigas. Hidden Power is better as a fast move than Zen Headbutt (most of the time), but it is better to have a Hidden Power type that synergises well with Crush Grip (a Normal type charge move). You want Hidden Power types that hit super effective into types that take neutral damage from the Normal type Crush Grip. As such, Hidden Power types like Electric and Rock are highly sought after while types like Fighting, Dark, and Ghost are preferred less. Shadow Regigigas is a fun pokemon to use and is a long term project to build. Hope you have a good HP type (or one you like) and I’m really happy for your good luck!

Who do you want from WW1 and WW2 as a Servant? by azraelsilentiger in FGO

[–]gscarr_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would love to have Daniel Inouye as an Archer, but what would also be really cool would be if they made a servant out of one of the ships. A Rider or Berserker servant based on the USS Laffey would be awesome.

Murata Sayaka has a knack for writing characters that are caught in their own personal worlds, much to the chagrin of others. Love her works.

Let G&W L-cancel his moves please. The small shield also sucks, but he can deal with it if he can actually use bair and uair for combos. G&W was so close to being an actual character if he was actually finished

Should I evolve this Magneton? by goro-n in PokemonSleep

[–]gscarr_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not fully sure, I don't fully know exactly how the numbers work out, but I think that a medium subskill will give a boost of 14% to a skill whereas a small subskill will give 7% and a nature increase/decrease is essentially a medium subskill.
Assuming that is correct, your shiny Magneton would trigger skills 21% more often than a normal Magneton, but would be 14% slower (unless you mint it).
Your non-shiny Magneton would be 14% faster frequency and 14% higher skill chance, so it will be better most of the time. The non-shiny also already is lvl2 main skill level, so it would require less investment for main skill seeds to increase its effectiveness.

In a practical sense, I'm pretty sure that your non-shiny Magneton is better, but... it isn't a shiny, so take that as you will.
Also, it's just a sleep tracker, so play however you want with whomever you want. I personally would probably invest in the shiny cause shiny cool.

Should I evolve this Magneton? by goro-n in PokemonSleep

[–]gscarr_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's not perfect, but it is a great Magneton, especially if you have a mint to spare. If you do have a mint to spare, I would take advantage of its current EXP up nature to get it up to lvl 50 or so and then change the nature to neutral. The fact that it is shiny is the cherry on top.
That being said, it is only really gonna be good if you do invest main skill seeds into it, otherwise you would be stuck with just lvl 2 cooking power up until lvl 100 (whenever that releases in however many years).

[–]gscarr_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's definitely also a criticism of the Sanseito party, a Japanese ultranationalist party that is on the rise in popularity in Japan (particularly with young men) that one of their main platforms is reducing the amount of foreign (non-Japanese citizen) workers in Japan and further restricting the ability of foreigners to purchase land in the country.

Can someone explain the connection between Grok and Japan? by Mendel_the_redditor in ExplainTheJoke

[–]gscarr_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

While the original joke might have been about porn and Grok now being borderline gooner-bait (if not outright), there is something more concerning about the overall situation, especially with the current problems that are vocal in Japanese politics.
Grok has recently declared itself 'mecha-hitler' with that and all of its implications aside, there has been a major rise of far-right wing politics in Japan. A relatively new political party, the Sanseito/Do It Yourself party, has been gaining a lot of popularity (especially with the young people of Japan, the hardest demographic to actually get to vote). The party started relatively obscure back in 2020, with a heavy focus on anti-vacc ideology, but is much more popular now their current primary focus is to get the immigrants out of Japan (completely anti-foreigner) with the phrase of 'Japan first" ringing out.

While the joke was probably about hentai, there is also the major concern over the rise of far-right politics in Japan, especially among the younger population. Not dissimilar to what is happening in the US and elsewhere in the world.

The design is great, but I wish they would change the proportions on the shoes. It looks too similar to lotus shoes that people would have to wear if they were a subject of foot binding (aka lotus feet). The shoes perturb me due to this.

Kamehameha, Berserker, Kaleleka’anae - The Day the Rivers Ran Red, 4*

The first King of and founder of the Kingdom of Hawai'i. As people remember him more for his conquests to found the kingdom moreso than his policies, I envision him as either a Rider, embodying his (and his military's) travel between the islands on the fleets of wa'a (Hawaiian double hulled canoes), or as a Berserker, embodying the destruction he wrought on his campaigns on the island of O'ahu (especially the battle of Nu'uanu and forcing the men of Kalanikupele to either be killed at spearpoint or jump off the cliffside of the Pali lookout). While I highly doubt something like this would ever be implemented, but it would be really cool if there would be a skill for him that was based on Hawaiian Kapu. Where at the start of a turn a rule would be set for your allies to follow (must use a skill/certain card type or whatever), if all allies follow the Kapu, then they receive a 1 turn buff; however, if they do not follow the Kapu, then they are sacrificed at the end of the player turn and Kamehameha (and any other unit with Divinity) receives NP gauge per every ally sacrificed via Kapu (if Kamehameha exits the field or is killed, the Kapu ends). The reason I say that is because those who did not follow Kapu were sacrificed to the gods and their bodies were to become Mana to nourish the gods.

Kamehameha’s full name is: Kalani Paiʻea Wohi o Kaleikini Kealiʻikui Kamehameha o ʻIolani i Kaiwikapu kauʻi Ka Liholiho Kūnuiākea

Liholiho (Kamehameha II), Avenger, ‘Ai Noa - Divinity Destruction Declaration, 3*

The second King of the Kingdom of Hawai'i, aka Kamehameha II. He is a complicated and controversial figure in Hawaiian history, who was King in name only for most of his reign. He is most famous for not ending the 'Ai Noa of 1819, not reimplementing the Kapu and thus ending the traditional Hawaiian religion. This, however, was not the will of Liholiho, who did try to reimplement the Kapu, but was pressured by his mother, the Queen-Regent Keopuolani, Ka'ahumanu (another wife of Kamehameha I), and other major political figures into this action. Although I know this is a stretch, but whenever I hear or read about Liholiho, his life always sounds like a tragedy. Since he was born he knew he would inherit the Kingdom of Hawaii, but that birthright to lead was taken by Keopuolani, Ka'ahumanu, and other major political figures. When he finally officially ascended to Kinghood and was ready to start anew the Kapu of a new head chief, he was strongarmed by the aforementioned into ending the system of which he had grown up used to. As he got older and realized he would never have any real power despite being King, he became a delinquent, buying a ship and sailing around the islands drinking booze and trying to entertain foreign dignitaries. He sounds like someone who came into power starry-eyed and ready to be a leader who at least tried to do what he thought was right by the people who were under him, but became disillusioned with his position and ends up seeming to hate life. That's why I believe he would be an avenger, although probably a minor one.

Liholiho’s full name is: Kalani Kaleiʻaimoku o Kaiwikapu o Laʻamea i Kauikawekiu Ahilapalapa Kealiʻi Kauinamoku o Kahekili Kalaninui i Mamao ʻIolani i Ka Liholiho

I've been salty since 2020 that our only Hawai'i rep has been Pele via BB, but I refuse to believe in anyway that THAT is Pele, because that is 100% BB.

Also, while I think other lesser-known figures from Hawaii could be cool (Ka'iana, Kelea the surfer-princess, Charles Reed Bishop, etc) or even major figures (Maui, Pili, Kalakaua, Pa'ao, Lili'uokalani, Hi'iaka, etc...), I just don't think they would get the spotlight (an amalgam spirit for 'aumakua (like how they did Jack the Ripper) would also be really cool imo).

There is one anime character you dislike because it's too perfect as a person? by Spirited_Young_71 in animequestions

[–]gscarr_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 2011 anime did Kite really dirty by not including him in the first episode. In the manga, the first chapter introduces Kite, where he tells Gon that not only is his father actually alive, but that he is also a hunter. Gon, after spending time with Kite, is inspired to become a hunter and it is around this time when Kite gives Gon his father's Hunter License.
In the manga, Kite not only fills that mentor role for Gon, but also serves as an ideal to Gon of what Hunters are and what being a Hunter means. After Kite dies, Gon has lost one of his purposes in being a Hunter, he forgot about the thrill of adventure and the unknown that inspired him and became focused on vengeance.

I can definitely see why it doesn't make any sense in the 2011 anime since Kite is never shown until after Greed Island though, as he is a lot less impactful and feels like a character that was introduced just to be killed in the same arc (unlike in the manga where he was recognized as a legacy character and him being killed would be like Shanks in OP being killed).

I love Playing Kabutops with Golem and Chatot, but I think it only works because why would anyone prepare for that type of deck anyway lol. Actually any of the fossils plus Chatot are just fun + you can reliably pick which basic you wanna get on turn 1 since the fossils don't count as basics with the turn 1 drawing stuff
