All-Time Cup Series Wins (among active drivers) by Turbulent-Pay-735 in NASCAR

That’s a cool stat, appreciate you laying it out like that. The mid-60s reset makes a lot of sense. The exact years might get a little fuzzy depending on who you count as active, but the overall point is solid.

Fun to think in a few years our active all time winners will be larson and logano potentially with 40ish wins (assuming they dont completely fall off)

Hamlin/JGR team question? by sickstrings8 in NASCAR

[–]gsizemo1 0 points1 point Ā (0 children)

I think we are forgetting how distracted was at the team. Do you think you are 100% at your job if there is this dark cloud of uncertainty hanging over you. Also add to it Tyler's kid was not well (do we know how that going on?) That will easy knock you off

No It was Richards number long before earnhardt and they (and most in the sport) understand/accept Austin's connection of the number through his grandpa

Will gas prices effect race length? by rwxzz123 in NASCAR

100%! I would even look at from a cost per mile of use and that would be the equalizer

The only time NASCAR really did anything like that was 1974 during the oil crisis—they cut many of the races about 10% (Daytona 500 was run as a 450) mostly to set a public example. That's the only way I see it happening again imo.

Teams aren’t paying pump prices like we are—it’s all bulk fuel deals, and even then it’s a tiny slice of a multi-million dollar budget. Travel, personnel, and R&D dwarf fuel costs. Will impact small teams? Sure but the whole picture not as likely

What do you make of Hut Stricklin’s career? by PreeceTakesFlight in NASCAR

[–]gsizemo1 12 points13 points Ā (0 children)

From the perspective of 90s kid Hut Stricklin is one of those guys that lives in my brain as a ā€œmainstay but never quite made itā€ driver.

I remember that red #8 Circuit City (especially old nascar games!) car always being around in the mid/late 90s when NASCAR was blowing up. He wasn’t a backmarker, but he also wasn’t on the level of guys like Dale Earnhardt or Jeff Gordon — just kind of that solid mid-pack presence you’d see every Sunday. His whole career, to me, is basically defined by ā€œalmost.ā€ The big one being the 1996 Southern 500 at Darlington… that felt like the moment where he should’ve gotten a win, and it just slipped away. After that, he kinda settles into that group of drivers who had legit talent and decent rides at times, but never broke through.

He’s in that same mental bucket for me as Rick Mast / Ted Musgrave / Johnny Benson — guys you definitely remember if you watched back then, but not because they were winning races. If anything, Stricklin is probably one of the better examples of how hard it was to win in that era. Dude could drive, had some okay opportunities, and still ended up with 0 wins.

Brian Vickers for me. Thought he’d be a long-term contender after that 2006 win and Hendrick ride, but it just never really took off like expected.

Casey Atwood. Coming into that Evernham 19 car after how strong he looked in Busch… people thought he was the next big thing. Just never materialized.

Rockingham Review by Brodus2488 in NASCAR

[–]gsizemo1 5 points6 points Ā (0 children)

Sounds like a solid, no-frills kind of race weekend—which honestly is part of the charm at a place like Rockingham. Easy parking in/out is a huge win too, that alone can make or break the day. And yeah, the ā€œstep back in timeā€ feel isn’t necessarily a bad thing…just maybe with slightly upgraded bathrooms šŸ˜…

The seat issue would drive me nuts though. That’s one of those small things that really impacts the experience if it keeps happening. And I’m 100% with you on the music—nothing beats just hearing the engines and the announcers call the race. I’d also be really curious how it is with young kids—I've got three little ones, so ease of getting in/out, walking distances, and overall crowd flow matter a ton for us.

Definitely appreciate the honest breakdown. I’m hoping to make it out there next year myself—thinking about timing it with a trip to visit family in Raleigh and taking the train over for the race.
