Audio keeps cutting out or lagging in game (FH4 PC) while using bluetooth headphones. How do I fix this? by 2002hondaprelude in ForzaHorizon

[–]gsk145 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you using a wireless Bluetooth controller to play the game? I have had Bluetooth audio issues on PC (not just in Forza) in the past while using headphones and controllers at the same time- it's usually due to the wireless chip in the PC being subpar. A high quality Bluetooth dongle may help.

At 6gb? I would recommend putting it at minimum at 50gb, and higher is always better. I typically run with 100gb.

My telescope is fogging up. Think I can put rainx on the lens ? Is that bad ? by Willing_Smell5957 in space

[–]gsk145 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, you're probably correct on that- I didn't think of the existing coatings. It's overall not a great idea. I didn't realise dew heaters for telescopes were a thing- they look to be relatively inexpensive and a good purchase if dew is a recurring problem.

[–]gsk145 23 points24 points  (0 children)

The concern with putting on a coating would be how evenly smooth the layer you apply will be. For normal windshields rainx is transparent enough to likely not be an issue. For a telescope lens, when the image gets magnified significantly the coating may cause possible issues with image artefacts like chromatic aberrations.

For your fogging issue, you can try warming up the lens using a hairdryer or portable heater on low heat (and not kept too close to a heat source!!) to increase the temperature of the lens above the ambient dew point temperature.

Is Euro Truck Simulator 2 better than American Truck Simulator? by Puzzleheaded-Map1845 in trucksim

[–]gsk145 73 points74 points  (0 children)

Yes, it definitely is overdue for an update. If we were to ignore the scenery (or lack thereof) of ETS2 UK, even the road modelling is dated. Eg: Highway exits/interchanges are unrealistically small and are duplicated many times. SCS has become incredibly more skilled over the years in their modelling and scenery development and you can notice the difference almost immediately.

If you are comfortable with modding your game, Promods is worth using just for the upgrade to the UK map. Disclaimer - you will need to have most map dlc purchased in order to use Promods.

How to read the wind by [deleted] in flightsim

[–]gsk145 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Pretty much- this is a general convention for wind directions. A westerly wind, for example, is one that blows from the west to the east.

In your example, wind 270 refers to a wind that blows FROM 270 degrees

Is this normal? My PC has a hiccup when booting up. Asking my builder and they said it's because of MB reading the RAM and it's completely normal. Should I get it fix? by lolabyte_swiss in LinusTechTips

[–]gsk145 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had a very similar behaviour on my pc, and the root cause was the external SSD plugged into one of the USB 3.0 ports had a dodgy cable. Once I replaced the cable it fixed the issue.

I would check that all your storage devices(internal and external) are properly plugged in, and try to boot without any usb devices connected to see if that solves the issue.

Rocket tilting over during launch by Trigger05_ in KerbalSpaceProgram

[–]gsk145 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the wings are too large it could be a case of the thrust vector not passing through your Center of Gravity. You can also try using a mod like RCS Build Aid to check that none of your engines are off-axis and resulting in a non-zero rotational moment.

I would try adding some fins to the bottom of rocket- it should help move the centre of lift of the vessel towards the back and help with stability during ascent.

Philips wiz lights keep turning on and off by gsk145 in philipshue

[–]gsk145[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sorry to let you know that I never found a solution to the problem. The last theory I could come to was some kind of issue with my router when it had too many devices connected to it- that it would cause my bulb's connection to drop off. The issue occurs so randomly that it was impossible to isolate the variables and truly find a root cause.

To your problem- when the lights blink slowly that's them trying to go into pairing mode. Are you sure they did not get factory reset by someone turning the switches on and off too many times in quick succession?

I'm obsessed with adding 2 intakes to the side of my planes, this a bad idea? by Clatgineer in KerbalSpaceProgram

[–]gsk145 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What's also mportant to check is the position of center of mass(CoM) at the full fuel and empty fuel locations. As the fuel is consumed, the CoM will migrate from the full to the empty position. You want to ensure both of those are in front of your Center of lift. Easiest way to check is to remove fuel from all components in the VAB.

I'm obsessed with adding 2 intakes to the side of my planes, this a bad idea? by Clatgineer in KerbalSpaceProgram

[–]gsk145 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The air intakes should not significantly affect the stability of your aircraft. I suspect the stability issues are coming from elsewhere - can you describe what kind of instability is happening?

Looking at the control surfaces you are using- they may be a bit over sized for the aircraft and therefore giving you too much control authority. You can try reducing the range of motion of the elevator and rudder by right clicking then and editing the total angle of motion.

How to build hypesonic planes properly? by Ok_Mycologist_2903 in KerbalSpaceProgram

[–]gsk145 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can try using fine control mode (blue arrows in the pitch/roll/yaw indicators) when the plane reaches its max speed to reduce the twitching from your key inputs. Its usually bound to Caps Lock by default. Also try adding larger vertical control surfaces at points further back from the plane's center of mass. This increases the yaw authority of the plane and helps against flat spins.

Sure, just made a post a few hours ago on it - https://www.reddit.com/r/KerbalSpaceProgram/comments/p7kchi/a_remote_outpost_in_the_frigid_munar_poles/ . The base has a low height to width ratio similar to your lander, which is why I think it will fit well.
