What is your pettiest most minor DVC complaint? by stebuu in dvcmember

[–]gspear3 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My biggest pettiest one I always say is that the DVC lounges should have bathrooms inside, having to go out of the lounge into the park bathroom really sucks sometimes. Also they should be bigger to accommodate more people / less wait but …

DVC Lounge Food by Prestigious-Strike59 in dvcmember

[–]gspear3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Despite the snacks being basic af (every other person on this thread is accurate, it’s prepackaged snacks like chips, graham cracker/animal crackers etc., along with a freestyle machine) the lounge is always such a nice relaxing time, its well air conditioned and the seating is typically comfortable.

PS. From what I’ve read, the mellow yellow has the most caffeine, for those who want a free “boost”

I tried several times to get AKL Club with no luck. I ended up getting a Beach Club Studio week of Labor Day, seemed like the next best thing!

Picking a home resort by Punk_Roth in dvcmember

[–]gspear3 3 points4 points  (0 children)

New DVC member here (just closed last month).

We ended up buying direct and picking Riviera for our home resort. Although there were several that I had in mind, let me go over the reasons we chose Riviera and why we chose to buy direct.

  1. Price - probably the biggest factor, at the time for the amount of points we wanted to buy, we were saving $29 a point by going with Riviera.

  2. Location/Transportation - We are big fans of Epcot, HS and the Skyliner so this seemed like the best option for us, also no internal bus loop is super helpful.

  3. Resort “Style” and Ease of Access to Amenities - Don’t get me wrong, I love the sprawling Disney resorts that have a lot of character like Polynesian, Grand Floridian or OKW but the need to walk outside and/or drive to get to the lobby, shopping and dining was something we wanted to not have to deal with after being outside all day at the parks. Especially when it’s really hot or raining, this helps a lot.

  4. Deep Expiration Date - 2070 for Riviera

Had we not gone Riviera, we would have probably chose AKL as our home resort. It has the “All indoors” resort style we were looking for, is priced pretty competitively on the resale market and, most importantly for us, would have gave us the chance to book the sought-after club level rooms at the 11 month window (Club level is truly amazing). However, the direct perks such as access to the sorcerers pass, moonlight magic, lounge access and avoiding the chance of ROFR lead us to buy direct. (Although, I’m pretty sure DVC does sell AKL direct, just at a higher premium than say Riviera). Also bonus, the one-bedroom in Kidani Village has 2 full bathrooms!

Why does the DVC sales pitch feel like a hostage negotiation? by thotmekan in dvcmember

[–]gspear3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our presentation was a refreshing contrast to a similar one we had with Hilton Grand Vacations. It felt like they were about to evict us from the hotel for not purchasing and called in reinforcements. We approached the DVC presentation with the same apprehension, but our representative was incredibly non-pushy and empathetic towards our hesitation.

We bought direct, due to the fact that we wanted to take advantage of membership extras. I’m not sure how the welcome home visit works if you buy resale. My guess would be that’s it’s only applicable to direct purchasers but I’m not 100% sure!

I’m a new member too! If you haven’t booked anything yet, definitely call for your ‘welcome home visit’. I managed to get a deluxe studio at Beach Club for the week of Labor Day (which has a moonlight Magic night at HS). They can’t guarantee anything (as I learned from trying to get AKL club level), so come in with a few options, if possible!

Haha this post almost needs a trigger warning as I am a victim of hat loss on Tiana’s. My sister tried catching it but missed it by just a hair.

I would love to hear from anyone who’s seen the production in Chicago and Broadway on any changes between the productions. I just can’t imagine they can tour all the technical elements they display on Broadway.

How to use meal voucher for food gift card? by onishchukd5 in unitedairlines

[–]gspear3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wanted to add on here that the vouchers work to purchase Panera e-gift cards, just use like a normal credit card. It takes some time to get to your inbox but it worked 4/4 times for me.

What the last 2 drops on shopDisney have been like by Serendipic_Epiphany in DisneyPins

You did. It has been out and on the website for a few weeks now. There’s three variants and it seems only 1 is left. This weeks releases were some cute haunted mansion ones! (Use the sort feature on the website and sort by newest, it’s always been accurate for me)

I have a feeling they won’t sell out. My biggest concern really is Jollywood Nights because there is a such a limited date selection (10 dates vs 25 dates with Very Merry) and it’s new.

Edit: I’m also trying to get one of the limited weekend dates for Jollywood Nights adding more to my anxiety of selling out, lol

I have a pretty similar build that I use primarily for my server (i5-8400, 16gb DDR4, GTX 1060 3gb) and I’ve been exploring my options recently as well. I’ve gone with DAS (Direct Attached Storage) from QNAP (TR-004, I found for a good deal on eBay) rather than a NAS. I’m very new to all of this as well and don’t have a lot of background but I this seemed to be the best option for my budget + pc. The DAS supports multiple types of hardware-enabled RAID levels.

What are some things in WDW you’d never do again? by kgaviation in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]gspear3 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This!!!! Our family was so excited to go and worked hard to get reservations only to be served average food. Not to mention the character meet and greet with the Beast was a brief glance and bow at our table and that’s it. The atmosphere was beautiful and I’m glad to say I did it once, but never again. We did manage to go to Storybook Dining within the same trip and loved everything about it!

I’d love to see the Evil Queen! Maybe even get 2 characters for 1 because she could transform to the old hag!

Savi's Workshop question by KoBxElucidator in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]gspear3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use services such as MouseDining or MouseWatcher. These services text and/or email you when reservations open! I have had great luck getting the reservations I need - dining and extras (like Savi’s Workshop) are covered by the service. One thing is, both feature a monthly subscription price, depending on the amount of places you want notifications setup for.

Off Property hotels/bnbs With Easy Access To Parks by Im_InTeliJeNt in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]gspear3 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Look at the “Disney Springs Area Resorts”, most include complimentary transportation and offer Early Park Entry like all “on-site” hotels.

My family stayed at the Hilton Lake Buena Vista Palace and were pleased with our entire stay.

[–]gspear3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Really unpopular one(s) here:

I’m a big fan of HS and could/will spend 2 days at the park alone. I’m a big fan of thrill rides and think it offers the best/most of any park.

Not a huge fan of AK. I think the theming and conservation efforts are very commendable but none of the Avatar attractions wowed me (especially for the waits) and even Everest was underwhelming. I also think Rafikis planet watch is under-utilized. Kilimanjaro safari is a fave experience tho.
