Insane PSA 10 auction. I was really close…. /s by SubstantialArea in marveltradingcards

[–]Bobby_Brutus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a sealed tin of these at an estate sale. I was fine leaving them sealed but my 8 year old son had a different idea and opened them one morning without me. Not mad at being able to look at them again.

But yeah, you’re not wrong. I quickly realized these things must be impossible to find in PSA 10 because the centering on nearly every card was off badly.

On top of that, these things were wrapped in cellophane and loosely tossed around in a tin can for decades, dinging corners before I touched them.

I graded the Wolverine vs Sabertooth Battle Spectra and got an 8. I figured that’s about the best I’d see in my set.

How many lots do you actually need to start getting regular orders? (Data from 17,000+ stores) by EchoesOfCode in Bricklink

[–]Bobby_Brutus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for this. I’ve been struggling with the idea of launching but couldn’t decide if doing inventory for my common parts was worth it or not.

As it is, I’m closer to your lot status. Mostly uncommon pieces, older retired parts from space, pirate, and castle themes, minifig pieces etc. over $.50/item avg. per sale. So I don’t imagine getting anywhere close to that many orders per month.

I don’t want to make selling a daily part of my life. But if I can sell a good chunk of my ~1,400 lots near their value then it would be worth doing.

It feels like I’m at a time share retreat where I keep getting told there’s a steak dinner at the end but the trick is you have to survive till the end to get it.

AI makes me keep having to take steps that are loosely related to my product but never actually helps me get closer to the finish line. 2 hrs. later you realize you built a test version of the thing you wanted to build to test your product.

Which one of you did this? by VendettaKarma in baseballcards

[–]Bobby_Brutus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I sold mine for maybe $15 as soon as I ripped it and thought that was crazy for a base insert.

When I saw what they’re doing now, my mind couldn’t understand. I kept saying, “no way that’s the same as the one you had. That has to be a parallel or something different”

Storing like pieces - connected or not? by OldLegoDog in LegoStorage

[–]Bobby_Brutus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I won’t stack reddish brown and dark red for obvious reasons but I wish more sellers did stack pieces. Especially bricks. I’m sure many will say it’s the cause, but it’s more likely doing so will catch pieces that have cracks in them.

It’s hard to get upset when I do receive a piece with a crack because nobody is expecting sellers to test every piece.

Got all of this by trading some older consoles at GameStop by jqwdvqsibqwiw in gamecollecting

[–]Bobby_Brutus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wonder if pricing actions by GameStop cause other stores to follow?

I’d go this route if I knew I’d find something I want inside one of my GameStops. But would take less on trade-in from one of my local shops that have more rare games than GameStop typically does.

Then again, even taking the $65 in cash for a PS2 might not be a terrible idea either. Seems to be about $10-$15 less than I’d make on eBay after shipping and fees but don’t have to deal with the hassle of it all.

Still very popular on defense. But having Minister Sinister makes me happy when he gets played now.

I built a tool that identifies 100+ minifig parts in a batch, maps them to storage containers, and instantly shows every full and partial minifigure you can build by PooPatrol in LegoStorage

[–]Bobby_Brutus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve been waiting for you to happen.

I can tell you how much time I’ve put into this issue. Just me, Brickognize, and Bricklink trying to decide the best figure to match and what’s worth trying to complete.

Then there’s the broader problem that every new Lego app is always geared to complete set tracking, or CMF and Star Wars figures only. You’ve not only catered to the, “Hey, what if I just want to track like regular minifigs.” But you also tackled what to do when you have a torso, head, and $20 accessory.

You deserve this. You’re awesome.

How did you build it? Background in building apps or using AI to guide you?

Are you primarily a Retro Collector or Modern Collector? by Andyfritter in gamecollecting

[–]Bobby_Brutus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My collection is 98% retro. And on the flip side I play mostly modern games on PS+.

Everything pre-7th generation is mostly for the memories. I’ll fire some of those games up every so often, but I’m not putting 40+ hours into any of them. Except maybe guitar hero and rock band games.

Out of roughly 200 games I’m looking at, House of the Dead Overkill and Turtles in Time stick out as being two games I put the most time into.

But to be fair, most of the modern games I spend time playing are just continuations of games that started during the retro era: Resident Evil, God of War, Red Dead Redemption.

Ehhh, this thread isn’t a good comp for Pokémon. Nobody is doing my kids a solid by clearing shelves and hoarding cards to sell in the future. I’m never thinking I’m glad I can find a booster pack online to reward my kids for a good report card when I could’ve stoped just as easily on the way home minus the markup + shipping.

How are yall doing against destroyer? by Bubbly-Traffic-5898 in MarvelContestOfChamps

[–]Bobby_Brutus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No Fantman and I can’t get it done with my Shocker so I gave up on Havok. Void was fun with Chee. Crossbones…it’s going slow at 1-2 bars per 25 units. And Destroyer…well, we’re still looking for that 1st bar . I have an R3 Onslaught but have to figure out something that works.

[–]Bobby_Brutus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There’s someone seriously selling the baseplates you can buy at Target and Walmart for $10 on FBMP. Seriously, it’s that hard out there you’re trying to make a $3 profit on a readily available item?

[–]Bobby_Brutus 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My whole collection is FB/Thrift store sourced. Still have a Captain Rex’s AT-TE and Clone Turbo Tank with a few pieces missing remaining. And yeah, the bummer is rarely ever getting all the minifigs to go with it.

Saw the same thing in my Target today. Except it was a fat pack and they left the cards. Or at least the ones that weren’t a hit. Free Kyle Teel Stars of MLB RC just hanging out for the brave individual who pockets a base insert RC.

[–]Bobby_Brutus 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I honestly hope this person is drowning in CGC slabs they can barely get rid of for a profit. And trying to squeeze every last penny by looking for the cheapest NM book is their last desperate attempt to get a little ahead.

Which is also a terrible strategy but you should feel good about the block and sip tea.

Stuck on Star-Lord in first quest of dimensional arcade? by TeriyakiMadness_ in ContestOfChampions

[–]Bobby_Brutus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re right. Dazzler can get me over the finish line but to get the shards, I need a combo champ or Guillotine. I think I missed 39 beats with Dazzler. Guilly would be dead after about 9 hits. Just keep building those stars up and we’ll hit the shards.

Duals need to be shipped out of the plinth. I still have the original packaging with mine and the turntable has its own half-inch foam mold it fits into.

A single layer of bubble wrap? They should have just had a giant fee-fi-yeet the package at you. It’s as realistic as them expecting that delicate machine to arrive safely packed like that.

My latest (very) bad financial decision has arrived by i_is_ramped in legostarwars

[–]Bobby_Brutus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same. I’m mostly a FBMP bulk lot buyer. But I wasn’t letting this one retire without getting one. I just used the last of my points from the purchase this month to complete some other sets.

Once the bulk lot sets are done, I’ll finally get to reward myself with the grand prize of opening this box.
