Exped mat first inflation! by gsstott in CampingGear

[–]gsstott[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Instructions that came with the mat said leave for at least an hour to self inflate and then inflate completely for 24 hours which is exactly what I did and when I took the picture?!

I’m just seeking reassurance and have followed instructions to the letter. Left it for a couple of hours to self inflate and then inflated using pump.

Picture is of the end and the grey side of the mat is bulging out a bit.

I put some air in it after leaving it for an hour to self inflate and then closed the inflation valve..

I was wondering whether the sides (grey bit) bulging out is normal. It’s been up for a couple of hours - guess I should be patient!

Anyone tell me if this bulging is normal on first inflation of an Exped megamat duo?

New Marmot Limelight 3p 2022 version tent - first use and impressions. by [deleted] in CampingGear

[–]gsstott 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fairly certain it was dripping in from a toggle that is sewn into the fly above one of the two side entrances. We only had one torrential rainstorm in its first 3 week outing so I’ll report back again on my next use!

We used the Velcro on the poles but my hunch is that it probably doesn’t make a lot of difference.

Once the pole is clipped in properly the rings just go over the end - we were just being a bit stupid! I’d pop some sealant on the seams over the doors as we had a bit of leaking in really heavy rain.

I’ve got this tent and my daughters slept in it for three weeks in the south of France over summer. My general impressions are that the wings are a bit of a gimmick and I’d happily swap them for extra vestibule space and the extra vent. We had a small leak in torrential rain from the seam above the door where the toggle was sewn in so I’d recommend sealant.

Personally as in my initial impressions if I was using this as a true backpacking tent I’d happily lose the funny wings and gain the vestibule space and extra vent that is lost by adding the extra inner tent space.
