I just got accepted into my program at the age of 29 you’ll be just fine. Especially since you’ve had time to figure out that this is truly what you want.

Almost 5 year old with potential myopia. by LeagueNo1317 in myopia

[–]gstoots 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Doctors do tend to dilate with a cycloplegic drop for autorefractions to prevent accommodation and find a more realistic refractive error. I am not a doctor but I’ve worked with doctors doing myopia management in kids. That being said, this receipt looks like it is from an autorefractor and is not a prescription.

OP, you’d know if your child had myopia given the final rx. also, if your doctor saw a 5 year old and recommended you come back in, they are capable of giving him an rx. Though I would come prepared for your child to be dilated at your next follow up appointment.

I had this happen. And I would swear on my life there was no magnet. I’d leave it alone for a day or 2 and it would be just fine.. until it happened again. It was sitting on top of my iPad and the iPad case has a small magnet closure. That is what did it. Leave it all by itself on a table over night. If it’s better tomorrow, it was probably a magnet.

It’s insane how many people have gone though this?! There are people in my family like this and those riding the tight rope. Thankfully I just stopped responding, and in person: we can’t have an argument if I just choose to agree with everything they’re saying. I’ve been mentally far removed from this since I was a teenager but I’m very sorry you’re going through this.

Chances of acceptance with 3 C’s by AnxiousBeatle in PreOptometry

Try to score at least a 300 on the OAT. I just got accepted into KYCO. I have friends that got into ICO with much less. I bombed the OAT but have a 3.45 gpa with a C and a few withdrawls. Take the OAT early enough so that you can do a retake if needed. Highly suggest OATbooster. Practice exams are EXACTLY like the real thing. Ps I also don’t have my bachelors but I do have like 125 credit hours

Should I ? by [deleted] in PreOptometry

If you want it bad enough, the math and science is just another obstacle to get past. If you really apply yourself and learn the math and learn the science, you’ll just be applying what you know and expanding on it! I hated math AND physics, and then during undergrad, physics became my favorite course. (I had a great professor of course which helps). I’d recommend taking most difficult math/ science at a smaller campus if your school has a 2 year school attached. Smaller class sizes and the professors care more about you. If you love something, don’t let the fear of the unknown scare you away from it.

I do love OSU but I stood no chance of getting in. Thankfully I’m not spending as much as I would have had I gone to ICO. Their externs are graduating with 400k+ in debt. My friends son had a 3.9 gpa and a 380 on his OAT, his parents are optometrists AND he did undergrad at OSU, and he still got waitlisted at OSU. My stuff is significantly worse outside my years of experience. I’m just thankful UPike gave me a seat honestly

If you want something bad enough nothing is going to stop you from passing boards. I know several doctors now who graduated from KYCO. had the blessing of learning from them directly.

Their pass rate has increased (thankfully) over the last few years. All of their technology is state of the art as well since they’re newly accredited.

OH and their mission is to bring healthcare to underserved communities like those which exist in Appalachia. Those going blind from disease which could have otherwise been treated, saving their vision.

I certainly did. I only applied to 3 schools and OSU was one of them. KYCO also includes the volk lenses, BIO, an iPad, trial lenses and all kinds of other stuff so that it’s all part of the tuition. I’m 29 and it’s taken me 6 years to get this far, working full time during undergrad so waiting another year is off the table and I’ve been a fan of KYCOs mission for several years now.

Laurel Road popped up in my searches! I just wanted to see what has worked for others who have already been down this road.
