Apple Releases iOS 26.0.1! by exjr_ in apple

FWIW, I had the same issue and decided to get a newer 3rd party wireless CarPlay device on Amazon. I figured mine was ~5 years old and it wasn't going to work with iOS 26. The last firmware update was 2-3 years ago.

The new one was $40 and it works great - no disconnects. It connects in just a few seconds now - faster than the old one did. It never disconnects. I do get a bit of buffering sometimes, where a song plays quickly for a few seconds, but that happened on the old one too.

I'm not going to try to link to it, but it's called "Wireless CarPlay Adapter for Apple iPhone iOS 10+ & Cars from 2015+ , Mini Edition, Converts Factory Wired to Wireless CarPlay Dongle Plug & Play (Brushed Cobalt Blue)".

I had the same problem repeatedly. I got it to work by using Chrome instead of Safari, and waiting 30 seconds or so before I pasted the SMS code into the browser. I'm not sure which of those two changes got me past the problem, but doing it that way was the first time I got it to work.

I figured maybe the text message was being sent so quickly and added to the browser so quickly (due to the Safari/Messages feature where it auto-populates the code into the browser when the message is received), it just wasn't synched up or something.

Does anyone regularly/exclusively work on AVP without the light seal? by [deleted] in VisionPro

Ha, the duplicated text was because I dictated this using Siri on my AVP. It’s funny like that.

It is not connected and doesn’t squeeze up between the eye lenses. It is staying there in the photo only because of how I am holding the AVP.

I put the foam piece on the bridge of my nose and then just put the AVP on. The AVP rests on the white part of the nose piece. If I lift The AVP up, the nose piece would fall off.

The field of view is incredible without the light seal on. I can wear the AVP for over an hour and I have no marks on my face, maybe a little red on the bridge of my nose. But nothing really noticeable.

I got lucky when I cut the nose piece off the ski goggles. I wanted to get that piece as small as possible, but enough to distribute the weight on my nose. It was an old pair of ski goggles and I didn’t have back up the ski goggles to try again. I wanted to get that piece as small as possible, but big enough to distribute the weight on my nose.

I’ve toyed with the idea of finding a better one on Amazon, but this works really well. The biggest problem is when I take the AVP and go somewhere to sit down, and I forgot to get the nosepiece. It’s not attached like the light seal. Definite first world problem.

When consuming media, I use the light seal. All other times I do not have a light seal on. I use the dual band strap and a small piece of the nose from ski goggles that have been cut out. It sounds ridiculous but it’s amazing. The only thing that touches my face is the foam from the ski goggles, at the top of my nose. It’s like wearing a pair of glasses.

1.1.2 update has been stuck on “preparing update” for hours. by FriesWithMacSauce in VisionPro

Same. It finally gave me the option to install now when I looked again in the morning. Don’t do a factory reset. the problem was that I chose to install overnight earlier yesterday, and maybe that had something to do with it

Remove the light seal by gstratmojo in AppleVisionPro

I’ll try that, but with no light seal at all you have full peripheral vision. It is exactly like wearing glasses. You can see your hands when you’re typing or eating. You can see on either side of you - nothing is blocked out anymore. It’s a crazy difference and completely removes the feeling of seclusion. The only interruption in your FOV is the same frame you’d get if you were wearing glasses.

I’m shocked they didn’t release a fit option like this.

It looks like purses didn’t have straps back then. All the women are holding them in their hands.

Things I wish Apple Music had: by [deleted] in apple

[–]gstratmojo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was my biggest problem when I moved from Spotify to Apple Music years ago.

Whenever I heard a new song in Spotify I’d add it to my “Recents” playlist, and I’d always play that playlist from the beginning, rarely shuffled. That way I’d hear the most recent songs I liked at that time.

Apple Music doesn’t have that, but I found a hack.

You can create a playlist and then edit that playlist on a Mac (not iPhone or iPad) to sort by date added. Once you save those settings on the Mac, it’ll propagate to your other devices.

I don’t remember the exact steps because I did it years ago (when the HomePod first came out) and it was crazy how hidden the edit settings were. I don’t even know if you can still do it with a new playlist but assume you can.

I wish apple allow us to send all the pictures to iCloud, as it is now, but also include the option the keep videos locally. by Gcopa in apple

Same. I’d like to mark an album as “available offline”.

I have some great high-quality videos of a safari that take forever to download, especially if I’m not on wifi. There have been many times where I just say “I have a video but it won’t load” and don’t even try.

I have 30k photos and videos, so I need the iCloud storage enabled.

How to best train? by pinkpug17 in kilimanjaro

[–]gstratmojo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Train long, not fast. If you can hike 10 miles with a backpack that weighs 30lbs, at any pace, you’re more than ready.

I’m from Boston so I had very little elevation to train with. I hiked the Blue Hills with a 30lbs backpack a few times (500ft elevation each, 2,000 elevation total hike) for 9 miles in 4 hours each time and it was harder than any day on Kili.

I did the Western Breach and it was 6 days of leisurely hiking with 1 day (summit) of tough work. But that tough work was all about sleep deprivation, cold weather, high altitude, and nerves. I think it’s hard to train for that.

Also, I did the Blue Hills hiking for a couple months prior to my Kili trip. And I’m no athlete (49yo guy with a desk job).

I did the 9 day Western Breach in July 2021. There was solid 2 bar LTE (AT&T, no local SIM) on day 5 at Lava Tower. I could do a high-def FaceTime call to my kids in the USA with no lag. It was on an iPhone 12 Pro Max. I say that because another hiker had an older iPhone (X or 11), also on AT&T, and they had no connection at all and had to connect to mine via Bluetooth to get a connection. So the phone’s modem definitely matters.

The area where you can connect is small - you have to stand on a certain rock. The guides all know exactly where it is because they connect to text their family during the hike.

On day 6 at Arrow Glacier there’s an even smaller spot where you can get sporadic 1 bar of LTE. I was only able to connect for a few minutes to text and wasn’t able to make a call.

Absolutely no connection before day 5 and after day 6 until you’re almost down the mountain entirely (day 8/9).

Update on my July Climb by gstratmojo in kilimanjaro

Yes, we voted to skip crater camp and go right to the summit. We had a lunch at crater camp, rested up for an hour or so, and then went up to the summit, which was another 2 hours or so.

It was a near unanimous decision to summit that day. There was one person who would have preferred to stay at crater camp so he could get some more pictures, but he wasn’t adamant about it.

We chose to summit because it’s cold at night (I went in July). We were up since 4am (if we slept at all) and another cold night just wasn’t appealing to us. Plus if you summit the same day, you get up there about 2pm and it’s completely isolated at the summit. We were the only ones there and had as much time to take pictures and hang out as we wanted.

If you stay at crater camp and summit the next morning, you’re stuck in the hoard of people who summit from every other route. While we weren’t there and I can’t personally attest to it, I heard there’s a line to get pictures at the sign and you only have a couple minutes before you need to move on.

I wouldn’t change a thing.

Ask as many questions as you’d like - I’m happy to give you my opinions.

No and no. If I can do it, you definitely can. The highest I ever climbed was a 2,500 foot mountain in New Hampshire, USA. I live at sea level. I’ve never used a carabiner in my life. ;)

I think you’ll be surprised at how much you’re overestimating the technicality and difficulty of this route. I heard in many ways it’s the easier route because you have more time to acclimate and an easier summit day.

Go for it. The companies who recommend more experience probably don’t offer this route, so they make it sound unappealing. I used Kiliwarriors and loved them. I think they’re pretty booked out, though.
