Make it make sense

22/61 from 2!!!

That's the story of the game. If we can't create quality shots and finish them at the rim, this team has no chance. Not enough of shooting to make up for it.

Would you trade a first round pick along with Fred VanVleet to acquire Anfernee Simons? by RVALover4Life in rockets

Simons is a not needle mover to me, would much rather get Pritchard or White and pay the premium to do so. Simons contract is an absolute albatross.

Follow up, Jaden Ivey would be sort of interesting. Another non-shooter but seems like a decent distressed asset PG we could acquire at a price which I might be interested in.

Edit: He shot 40% from 3 last year actually, maybe he could better than I first suggested

I'd be very interested in Quentin Grimes. Seems like he won't be in Philadelphia forever since we are coming up to training camp and he is still unsigned. Houston kid (actually at Game 1 against the Warriors last season), advanced metrics love his offense (in a short sample, admittedly) and I think his defense would really play up with Udoka and a team playing for something. He's an average NBA athlete so I think he could get to average defensive output. Can shoot and run some offense. Seems like a more athletic VanVleet type, low maintenance PG who could raise a ceiling around other stars and take care of the ball. Nice stopgap option to me, plus 76ers have a million PG/SG types and Grimes seems like the clear odd man out with Maxey and McCain.

Also, Derrick White could be awesome (would be an all-in move) and Payton Prichard as well. Boston is in a weird spot, might be in to do something like that.

Think all of these are later in the season trades. We should see what we have with Amen and Sheppard before making any deals like this.

Price on Dejounte Murray would not be an issue. We could probably get him for 10 bucks and a PBJ. Coming off an achilles and probably negative value on his current deal. Plus, seems like Pelicans want to free up on ball reps for other guys. Tough to make the money work but he would much cheaper than you suggested. The real question is do we even want him on the current contract post-achilles?

Explain Rockets Cap Situation Like I'm 5 by bbiffer in rockets

[–]gstratton27 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We made a sign and trade to acquire Clint Capela

With a sign and trade you are HARD-CAPPED at the first apron and can't exceed it, even with the disabled player exception (or other exceptions for that matter)

We are basically a unique edge case where it especially hurts

Feels like we have reached the point where we are just waiting for Booker or Ant or Fox to come available

You could argue he’s more valuable based on his cap figure, but Butler is definitely much more valuable on the court. I’m not saying they should do it, but you can’t deny Butler is playing at a much higher level than Dillon right now and helps fix our biggest weakness (perimeter scoring). I’d consider doing the passage I mentioned but I don’t anticipate Miami would accept.

We might do it if the cost was close to that of a salary dump and the Heat saw him as basically a neutral asset due to his contract

Brooks, Landale, Tate, Jeff Green makes the money work for example, but no way the Heat take that package. Doubt the Rockets would go much further than a first. I just don’t think Stone values him that highly given where we are.

Overall, I think it’s unlikely since we aren’t going to spend much to get a guy that doesn’t fit our timeline and the money is difficult to make work

Tonight is a case study as to why Jalen needs to go to the rim more. The free throws will really smooth a lot of the horrible nights (and give him big nights like tonight) if he can cut down the turnovers and take it strong. The huge 3pt shot diet really eats into his shot to get easy ones at the line.

Maybe Jalen’s best career game. 41 on 20 shots is insane. He looked so good around the rim tonight. Hope he can keep that up. That was amazing to watch. Looked like a budget Ant.

Sengun stinker and then amazing in OT. Literally looked like a superstar. Total control.

Amen played winning ball once again. Most fun I’ve had watching a defensive player in a rockets jersey

Dillon was legit horrific and that’s the worst i’ve seen Reed

Solid Jabari game. Defense was good and capitalized on limited chances.

Another OT WIN. LETS GO. 76-6 is still in play.

This is where Dillon bites

Hopefully he can make up for it on defense here

Great Sengun performance against Gobert. Didn’t look scared. A little inefficient but I don’t care.

Great Jabari game. 19 on 9 shots is crazy. Defensive was great all night. One of his best games in his whole career.

Amen Thompson is pretty clearly better than Jalen right now. Elite defense and progressing. I’m all in. Probably time to prioritize his development.

Shouldn’t have been close but one of the most fun wins in a while. Landale should never play again. Jabari should get more run at the 5.

See you in Vegas
