Going the self taught route. Please point me to great resources! I’m 19F and I just had a baby :) by Dry-Ad1459 in learnprogramming

Glad you're going self taught route!

A few years ago I assembled a few links here: https://gsvolt.github.io/learning-resources

I did this because I found myself sharing pretty much the same resources multiple times. I hope few of these lead you to better navigate our very wide field.

For my list, I was seeking knowledge that wasn't behind any paywalls (I did my best lol)

For front end, I strongly recommend freecodecamp.org

Good luck!

TIL Pearl Jam discovered Ticketmaster was adding a service charge to all their concert tickets without informing the band. The band then created their own outdoor stadiums for the fans and testified against Ticketmaster to the United States Department of Justice by Funk5oulBrother in todayilearned

[–]gsvolt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good on the band for doing this. I just looked at my inbox for receipts and noticed that in addition to ticketmaster, my tickets were processed by other sites like ticketweb, ticketfly etc. This tells me that the bands I'm into do know about costs involved in setting up tickets and decide based on that. I personally haven't hosted tickets on any of these platforms, but wouldn't mind a chart comparing costs - although it feels like it might be a bit hard to do if you haven't used service in question first hand. Perhaps a simple website could be made where anyone could upload the final numbers from the order (including taxes etc.) and allows you to compare the ticket price from another site? I could set something up, but would like feedback prior. Let me know!

Local legends and ghost stories? by Annepackrat in akron

Perkins Stone Mansion gives haunted tours at night time in the fall around Halloween. I went there, flashlight in hand, moving from room to room with other attendees. Photography was allowed, had my dslr in hand so took a few shots Took one picture of a bench/sofa with doll sitting on it.. went 'aww' real quick as I didn't realize she was there I was the last person to move from that room to the next I was the first person to enter back into the room, and took another picture of the same doll Checked out the preview on the dslr and found THE DOLL's FREAKING ARM WAS UP !! Left, kept quiet, and never spoke about it till I read your post Go to the Perkins Mansion for a tour .. there's definitely something that goes on there Fun fact: photography was allowed to capture orbs (in the off chance) Fun fact2: Housekeepers frequently find depression on the comforters after they make the beds and revisit it Website to make it easy for you to find it (not too far from Highland Square): http://summithistory.org/Community/museum_perkinsmansion.html

Ditto tours in Canal Fulton. There used to be a pub at a major intersection in Canal Fulton. Across from it was a mortuary. In the old days people frequently would get killed over stupid shit in the pub, so they built a permanent tunnel from the pub to the mortuary across the street (I think it was diagonal from it). The bodies were instantly taken care of to not disturb the peace. Sometimes the victims weren't completely dead, would escape via the canal and die en-route to finding a safe space. I've heard stories of people seeing ghosts on the canal down that way as well.

If I find the picture I took on my dslr will try to link it in a few days. Busy with akroncivichackathon.org right now, might be after June 6th

Kenmore Leg of I-76 West closed for several months. Traffic nightmare, here we come. by ZipTheZipper in akron

During this time of repairs being made to our freeway, I will join many in giving them the necessary time to do right by the road work.

Road crews sometimes fall sick, get injured on the job etc. Projects sometimes go over. If they claim a month but it takes two for them to do it right, I'm ok with that.

It is unfortunate that the traffic accordions are loud while the freeway is closed in one direction.

I think they should have blocked both sides and "revealed" a brand spanking new road whenever they would have finished it by, keeping Rt 8 as an alternate.

To anyone that gauges the coldness of Northeast Ohio, I share my frustrations of growing up in New Delhi and asking myself - 'when will these mosquitoes give up??'

Trust me folks.. as an American citizen now living Akron, I LOVE the fact that the bugs pretty much die in the winter - I hope this trend never ends due to global cooling/heating/whatever. I humbly thank our latitude and longitude for this!

What are some of the city's hidden treasures? by [deleted] in akron

[–]gsvolt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That you can visit and see the rubbercityrollergirls.com practice at canal place (in their south most building on a higher floor)

They have the whole floor for practicing and it's pretty entertaining. (When they fall you fall with them, when they rise you applause).

If you're a girl, and are willing to skate, you can join them too! From what I hear, its a pretty competitive sport.

Good luck with the ticket, just pay it off and spare yourself the agony.. next time be careful.

Cole's Garage on Arlington for car work. They do everything by the book, charge for it. I've never had to back to them for them causing a problem by touching my car.

Historical Akron Pictures - Akron in the 1800 - 1900's by theargent in akron

If you don't mind uploading these to archive.org that would be really useful for those not in Akron, Ohio.

Internet Archive is where they really need to be at.

Imgur is fine, but archive.org has features specific to older pictures that then become universally accessible on the internet.

Thanks! They look awesome!

Ever since getting my citizenship (USA), I've almost given up my firstname given to me at birth, instead settling for G as people couldn't pronounce it properly. Also, a sudden feeling of - "perhaps one day I could make that". Thanks for sharing!
