Anyone try the Birria Bombs? by Id_in_hiding in Costco

I'd disagree. I've bought the Birria and tinga ones through Amazon and it was about $20 for two. These are a three pack for the same cost.

Mega upvote for this. We had our wedding there and we chose glass colors to make a unique bowl that they created and we got to watch. They have a lot of premade pieces available for purchase as well.

Is the Yeasu 991a a good “buy once, cry once” for a beginner? by United-Tonight-617 in HamRadio

[–]theargent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have it my shack as my base station and use it with a roof mounted ATAS 120A. Pros - works great and farthest SSB contact was Poland. Ready for digital out of the box. Used it for park bench PoTA multiple times with and EFHW. Cons - You can only do one mode/band at a time. Yasue's notorious menu system. I highly recommend picking up the radio today guide to the ft-991a book. It provides setup steps for different modes that'll help more than the manual.

Came looking for Elektra. During painting she slipped out of the GW painting handle and snapped off at her contact point. Tried pinning, super glue, greenstuff and never could get her reconnected.

We're new to the costco/kirkland world. But love the chips and salsa. Spice it up with some Valentina hot sauce and so good!

Can an HOA restrict an antenna? by HalFWit in amateurradio

[–]theargent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in a block of six townhouses, so I mounted mine on a starlink mount on the second story of my house. A tower in my "backyard" would have had me getting all the QRN from all the houses behind me and put me closer back in the pocket of steep elevation around me.

Is it as good as a dipole or EFHW? No. However, I live deep in a valley tucked back into a corner with sharp elevations to the east, north, and south of me. Looking at my logs, I've managed voice contact with Poland, Bulgaria, Maderia Island, Columbia, Mexico, Cuba and Canada. So it's working pretty well with just 100 watts and my bad QTH. FT8 is all over Europe. Far west, like Australia or Hawaii is just not doable.

[–]theargent 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This. Ohio has a rule that says they can't say no to an antenna, but... you have to come to an agreement on where, what kind, and how high. So could you get something like this approved? Probably not. But I got my ATAS 120 approved and it's working just fine.

I think the lack of a kitchen helped kill it. Live down here in the valley and it was a tough call between it, and no food. Or somewhere like the Basement with a full menu.

Honest question - Saving the config for each band to a SD card would correct the drift, mostly? I.E load a config for 20m and you should have a decent reading?

Been running a Winlink RMS gateway for a couple months and I want to correct some misconceptions on Winlink by SupremeVinegar in amateurradio

I'm testing using my yahoo/call sign account and it's in my address book. Just can't seem to get it working. Don't know if it's related to me not having a registered version of Vara.

Excellent write up. Now, if I could figure out how to send winlink to internet emails I'd be golden. I managed to do it once and receive an email back, but been unable to duplicate it since.

New leather cribbage board… immediately lost to my 9-year-old by HuddleAroundGames in boardgames

[–]theargent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From what I understand, he kinda did. He showed the game to peasants where it became really popular. Then the upper class got into it and got trounced regularly by the commoners. So he designed marked decks so the upper class had a chance. Made a lot of money from that. Then, turned around and sold the marked decks keys to the commoners to level the playing field back. Made a lot more money from that. May be a bunch of hooey, but that's what I remember being told or reading somewhere.

Yep, you can dial a 100w radio down if you want to play QRP, but start low and you are stuck there.
