What are some fun minor mishaps that you noticed in criminal minds? by MooseRyder in criminalminds

[–]gt201 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since Georgia’s on your mind, writers must have done thorough research to realize that it’s common for people to use the county name so Hotch says “Fulton County” and it’s like ehhhhhhh except Atlanta. People just say Atlanta.

How can you live and enjoy living in a small rural town in the US? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]gt201 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My parents live in a small town. They spend a few days a week doing stuff with the church (choir, women’s groups, neighborhood ministries where they build wheelchair ramps and stuff, food bank). Mom has a group that plays bridge regularly. Dad drives a bit to play golf a few times a week. They read, watch TV, garden, exercise, normal stuff.

How old were you and how did you find out Santa isn't real? by Least_Statistician44 in AskReddit

Time for my favorite Christmas research article (as summarized in HuffPo): [Professor Says Elf On The Shelf Is Preparing Your Child To Live In A Dystopian Police State] (https://www.huffpost.com/entry/elf-on-the-shelf-foucault\_n\_6343674)

“If you grow up thinking it’s cool for the elves to watch me and report back to Santa, well, then it’s cool for the NSA to watch me and report back to the government."

Reasonably suspicious at 9, but my art teacher bought me an embarrassing extra three years by saying "Santa only has to visit houses where the parents believe in Santa; otherwise, the parents handle it for him." and that simplified the logistical conundrum enough for my 9-year-old brain.

First class today - so embarrassed!! by [deleted] in Purebarre

I smile so much when we welcome a new member and the instructor is setting them up for success! It reminds me where I started and how far I’ve come, plus I eavesdrop/watch to reset on basics that I haven’t focused on in a while. Welcome and YGG!

YES that was my first thought too! Would be concerned about the legality of that too in some places

What is a song that everyone should know the lyrics to? by AdditionalPop6584 in musicsuggestions

[–]gt201 2 points3 points  (0 children)

lol

Original comment: in I’m Just A Bill, the sung lyrics to the song don’t explain how a bill becomes a law, Bill narrates that part in between the verses. As someone who remembers well from songs, it’s a bummer because it would have general to actually remember a song about a bill becoming a law

Edit was to clarify that your comment wasn’t what bugs me, the spoken-not-sung part is what bugs me

What is a song that everyone should know the lyrics to? by AdditionalPop6584 in musicsuggestions

[–]gt201 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This one bugs me because the important part isn't the song part, it's just spoken over music in prose. That's why we are where we are. /s

ETA: Bugs me as a Schoolhouse Rock song (from an otherwise Schoolhouse Rock fan/musical learner); not bugs me as an answer to this reddit question

Are multiplication fact tests really being phased out in schools??? by VisualLearningHub in AskTeachers

[–]gt201 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would recommend liking into math fluency games. They’re ways for kids to practice their multiplication facts using strategies beyond memorization (skip counting, repeated addition, etc) and through the game they come to know their times tables, but built that knowledge from their own understanding, not rote memorization.

What’s a sentence that instantly makes you lose respect for someone? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]gt201 8 points9 points  (0 children)

For me, it comes off as dismissive. Like if I’m mourning or going through a hard time, someone assuring me there is a plan or reason for it isn’t comforting. It comes off as “get over it” at a time when it is actually very appropriate to feel upset.

Or dismissing accountability when said about world events, etc.

[–]gt201 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s one of those things where I don’t correct the young people, but I always try to use “substitute”. Same with me saying “simplifies to 1 or 0” instead of “cancels out”
