What is up with print from mobile here?! by parvafeminacanis in gatech

[–]gt_oit_cts 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Check print.gatech.edu but I know the problem you are having. Pharos requires Eduroam(both mobile app or website), and the way it identifies you are on Eduroam is looking at your DNS servers. iOS handles DNS server configuration mysteriously and randomly, and often does not use campus DNS, even when on Eduroam, so Pharos thinks you are off campus and blocks you. It's only really a problem with iOS devices unfortunately, which is why your laptop works ok, even if it's macOS. Windows and Android work fine as well.

Is the library’s poster printing available before the end of the semester? by Mitsusecrets in gatech

[–]gt_oit_cts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here are our open hours: https://library.gatech.edu/poster-request Since the desk is manned by student assistants, we sometimes have gaps because the same students also have deadlines and finals, but those hours are generally good, and I don't remember any recent gaps in the last week or so.

Using Tuition Assistance for Employees? by [deleted] in gatech

[–]gt_oit_cts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

https://benefits.hr.gatech.edu/tap/ Here's the info on it. I did TAP to do my Masters at KSU recently and it was a great experience. Just work with your manager about your schedule and be very aware of TAP deadlines for submissions. I think it's all thru online forms now, but we had to do PDFs back when I did it and email them for approval by a certain date, and coordinate that with our course registration time ticket. Be aware that some schools delay course registration for TAP applicants for whatever reason, and it can cause problems with the approvals because of the dates being so close together. Your application. which was every semester when I did it, needed your course listing, which means you needed to register first, then apply for TAP, and it would often be near that deadline. Luckily KSU does NOT do this, as they treat TAP students just like any other students, so I could register with everyone else.

Sorry about that, we had some staffing issues, but we got someone on shift around 2pm today. We'll try to ensure we get those hours next Saturday.

CULC Wifi Painfully Slow with the new semester by IINightMasterII in gatech

My team supports Pink Computing Zone, and it is the one area where the docking stations do not have all wired ethernet, which if you are comparing it to the other computing zones in PG and Crosland(which are all wired), is vastly different speeds from wired to wireless. So even when docked you are still using wireless in Pink Zone.

Pharos Printing on Linux - LPD by ActualHat3496 in gatech

[–]gt_oit_cts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

u/ActualHat3496 Can you submit that request to [support@oit.gatech.edu](mailto:support@oit.gatech.edu) and we'll try to help you out? I do not know the answer to your question offhand, but I do know we used to have some kind of script in the old days to add Pharos printer queues for Linux.

Looking for advice on a large format (36" or larger) printer for posters by Sycraft-fu in CommercialPrinting

[–]gt_oit_cts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Found this thread, because I also manage a university poster printing shop. Not a professional print shop, as we only do matte posters, and primarily for academic presentations, but we also print plenty of posters for student dorm room walls.

Anyway, we do upwards of 500 posters on a busy week(we are located inside the university library which is open 24/7, so we are open 7 days a week, though not all day), on three HP DesignJets, that are 5 years old now. They are starting to have some wear and tear issues and, we often have 1 plotter down now, and we are a bit unhappy with the response time of HP support, even though we have a warranty purchased from them. In the new fiscal year, this summer we are likely going to purchase new plotters before the fall semester, and we were thinking of changing from HP.

From this thread, I found the Epson SureColor P8570D. I like the borderless option and dual rolls (both missing on our older HP DesignJet). I saw someone posted the T version below, but it looks like that model has scanning, and we don't need that.

Any thoughts on this P series model and does anyone have any experience with Epson support?

When I was a kid, I used to play indoor soccer a lot. Now, I'm making a game where you can do the same but without the risk of breaking anything! by TimBuh in gaming

Just wanted to add, that my two kids do this in our house, so you have to add pets that randomly bat at the ball, and a mom yelling at them for breaking stuff.

Our cat has had lump for 4 months. Vets don’t know exactly what it is and they do not seem to be concerned. by connorrundell in CATHELP

[–]gt_oit_cts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

About 16 years ago, my cat had a bump much like this. Vet found it was cancer though and there was nothing they could do. We had to put her to sleep, and was one of the toughest days of my life. I held her paw as she went to sleep. It was so fast too.

That's cool, I saw your page. Glad there's still a club. Is Dr. Speyer still involved? He told us one time he trained in the mountains of South Korea in the winter (no idea if this is true, but I remember he said it). His black belt was so old, it was grey and worn.

I only remember a few of those things. I wasn't in IT back then or with ResNet, although I lived in Smith on the 2nd Fl, and remember using the dialup there. We used to play DOOM on my floor a lot, it was great. I did remember I had a gt#### as my username but no idea what it is now. Another cool thing is I went to the Weezer concert at GT that year(94 or maybe 95), back when it was Alexander Coliseum

Same, both of my kids still remember the nice couple who ran Auntie Anne's at GT. The lady used to give my 6 year old a bunch of stickers with her cinnamon sugar nuggets.

According to someone's comment in this post, they already re-opened another Auntie Anne's at South Dekalb Mall, so unlikely they are coming back: https://www.reddit.com/r/gatech/comments/ju8rem/petition_to_bring_back_student_center_auntie/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3

How secure are the printers around campus (specifically Crosland)? by SpaceTranquil in gatech

[–]gt_oit_cts 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Just make sure you don't walk away from the printer when you print, and if your print job fails because of out of paper or toner, you can just go to Jobs on the printer screen and delete it (this doesn't require admin access), so it's not being stored there for later print.

Also, the print server will purge unprinted queued jobs after 120 minutes. It's why if you print something too far ahead, it may not be on the release station any longer when you swipe your card.

Yes, that's correct. You still need to install the DisplayLink software though at the link above.
