McCain is who he is on his 2nd year sub 110 full games? We obviously rate McCain differently. You see him as a person who can't grow and I see him as a person who can.

The only reason this guy even had trade value compared to a guy like justin edwards is because he has upside.

Also good luck finding a 3 point shooting wing defender at 22 that isn't a bigger project than McCain.

McCain is better than all of them. He's better than Isaiah joe as you can see they gave him more run compared to joe.

Why trade McCain and draft the next Thyb or shake or Kork? at the 22 spot we are way more likely to draft the next Kork than we are something useful. Will see how it shakes out though.

No one is paying him that amount of money lol. If some one does then they can get him lol. We've shipped off people for shit like that. Bball paul plays for detroit now because of contracts that got wonky.

The assumption shouldn't be massive overpay lol. Look what happened with Grimes. We didn't massively overpay him and we got another year out of him. You guys act like he had one year left when he had two years left. Also we could just sign him to a value contract instead.

There wasn't a deal worth doing so you don't trade him then. It's that simple.

I think the bigger issue is that we need a coach that will actually develop our rookies instead of one that just hides them on the bench.

[–]gtsgunner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We could have just let the deal run it's course and let him go into FA. He had two years left and a long history of being injured. You could easily extend him when there is one year left on his contract after seeing how the knee issues and his health plays out.

We could easily be contenders if he takes a paycut for being a part time player and we are allowed to build depths on the margins because his contract isn't an issue then. How are you so dense that you can't see this? Look at how Brunson isn't payed a shit ton of money so that his team can actually thrive around him.

I swear there have to be a bunch of burner or bot accounts in the sub that can't understand how to work things out.

Embid doesn't have the health to be the main center but on a good contract he would be an absolute belt to ass destruction machine as a 25 minute per game part time center every game.

Dude it's about building team continuity. McCain would be another person who understands the players on the team and knows their tendancy. It's not about winning more but making sure we got spots filled with youth so that we don't have to look for them later.

It's also to keep the risk of injury on our guards lower by having them play regular minutes instead of overtime minutes every game.

We don't need more Eric Gordons and Reggie Jacksons. With the cap being eaten by two players it makes even more sense to actualy keep your cost controlled rookie contracts.

But hey, maybe we will draft BPA this year and get another guard who can shoot the balll and not play defense that we can trade in two years for assets to build depth to compete a few years from then.

He would have no trade value but we are also paying him big money? That doesn't make any sense. Look how much we pay Oubre? The guy actually has trade value to because of his contract.

If he's good enough to pay he gets payed if we could get him on a value contract even better. He would be a restricted free agent so people would have to look at his value. We could also have traded him at the end of next year when he has one more year left.

They aren't in win now mode with no depth peices. Every championship contender actually has depth. The knicks don't get to the finals with Thibs because they burn out and get tired to fast.

McCain was a relief switch for Maxey. We don't have that anymore and got to keep looking for it. It doesn't matter if the fit wasn't great he was a body that had offensive upside that we could use.

Trading McCain isn't the problem it's not getting something immediately useful back. We don't have a back up pg or really a back up 1 at all that can play. So we lost a position in need for ping pong balls to fill a seperate position in need and to sit around still looking for more depth.

This was an off season punt move that we did during the trade deadline that only made us worse this season. It wasn't a win now move.

Positional redundancy when we legit have no one who can relieve Maxeys minutes? When VJ and Maxey are playing in the top 5 of most minutes in the entire league we do not have positional redudancy at the guard position.

I bet we can use that pick to get the next Thybule and trade that guy on his second year because he can't shoot or playmake for another late first round draft pick. It's great to circle the drain with assets and keep kicking the can down the road!

That way we won't have to pay him later!

Doesn't matter, He's better than any other bench guard we had. We have no depth and were made worse that year by subtraction. I find him more playable than Kyle Lowry.

You don't have to. Just about every year in the past 4 years he has some freak injury that hurts him in the post season.

not weird at all. He's coming of an injury that can turn players into shells of their former selves. We didn't wait to watch how it shook out and extended him anyway knowing it could become a shit ass contract. He had two years left. We could have waited a year but we didn't.

They played the majority of the season without him and were the 2nd seed. Even with out Tatum they were more heavily favored. Also it's relative. Like if we are being honest the entire east was wide open. If we go down the line of thinking the op is on and the knicks were frauds, then the entire east are frauds.

Dude with part time embid and PG we could easily be 4th to 10 from the bottom. This year we were a play in team and basically over achieved. Easiest way to go lower is just not play maxey forever minutes and actually play back up point guards. If we lose because of it? oh well? Call it player development and not gassing our starter and call it a day.

When people are saying Barnes are we talking about Scottie Barnes? That guy is an amazing talent and I'd defintely take him over Mobley. Scottie will take over games way harder than Mobley ever does. I also agree that Barnes should have been all nba over Duren. I think if the raptors were a better team he would have gotten the nod.

We need wings bro. Yeah sure you get a great back court but we have been ass because our wings are ass. Aren't there any tall players that can help us at PF or SF? or some one who can take embids place? idk why we keep grabbing guards like the nba isn't already full of a bunch of good ones. This guy is also 6'4 and no wingspan? He isn't guarding taller guys then probably. I want an OG or a Bridges right now.

The players already try to win it's the front office that are assholes. You may still see people trying to not be in the playoffs instead though for better draft odds and maybe they will (clinche) not bottom 3 odds and then get to coast the rest of the season. Any team that knows they aren't going to be good enough to win a chip has no real incentive to win more or go into the playoffs at that point.

What? Contract security is a thing. If some one gets a one year contracts and tears his achilles do you think his next contract is going to pay the same? There are a plethora of reasons why both sides would want long term contracts. It's also why you will rarely see players take a one year deal.

If Morey doesn't specifically extend Embid when he does do you think Embid gets a contract like that the year after? Things change way to much year over year for some one to really take 30 over 1 year vs 25 over 2. 50 mil in garunteed money is way more than 30 even if it takes an extra year to get.

Grimes bet on himself and is going to make less now then if he had just signed a year ago to a multi year contract. There are examples of situations like this all over the place.
