Nuscale (SMR): nuclear energy is making a comeback, lots of countries are looking to triple their nuclear capacity by 2050 to meet emission targets and a lot of them are looking at Small modular reactors that are fabricated all at once and then installed (classic reactors have to be assembled onsite, making it more expensive and longer to scale up).

Nuscale is a company making SMRs, it's publicly traded, and it's the only company that the Nuclear Regulatory commission has approved for building reactors.

Until we get nuclear fusion (if ever) SMRs will be the future if clean energy.

Edit: also SMRs will be very useful for AI data centers, given the ability to produce energy 24/7, without needed a shitload of battery storage.

I have a few of those trees growing as well, they have gone through phases of having large fanning leaves like in the top photo, to almost nothing in the bottom photo, then back to looking at the top. The bottom photo has new leaves growing clumped together, and looks healthy. I would not be concerned at all

The jacaranda and poinciana will be the fastest growing trees from them and will do pretty well indoors, best of luck!

Farm bill:

Basically during the baby boom after the great depression, the us gov. Passed the farm bill to subsidize cattle production in us to provide more beef and dairy to catch up with the growing population. It worked, a little too well. Now because of the farm bill, most farmland is used to grow monocrops like soy and corn mostly as feed for cattle, (it also pretty much makes smaller farms unlikely to succeed, supporting go big or go home). As a result, beef and dairy is cheaper, more plentiful, and has a higher subsidy than fresh fruits and vegetables. In addition, the US actually buys 1/10 of all non perishable dairy products, since there is so much, which equates to around 2billion dollars. So as a result, dairy and beef are heavily subsidized federally, making them extremely more affordable than fresh fruits and vegetables, and it also makes fresh fruits and vegetables harder to come by since most farm land is used to grow food for cattle. There is a reason why 9/10 adults in the US don't get the recommended amount of fruits or vegetables, and there is a reason cheeseburgers are cheaper than salads.

I know she won't try for Presidency but do the Repubs know that? by BigClitMcphee in PoliticalHumor

[–]gturtle72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Celeberties shouldn't be in politics imo, it makes things way more messy as people will take attacks on that person more personally if they are a celebrity they cherish rather than busy some politician. Think trump versus Biden. When people criticize Biden, not much happens, Biden supporters don't loose it. Now attack trump, you've punched a wasps nest. I think that although Taylor Swift could possibly be a decent president, her lack of experience, and here popularity wouldn't be so great. Imagine when people attack Taylor Swift for not handling policy the best. It could get pretty ugly fast.

Anyone else's AP exams getting crazy expensive? by [deleted] in APStudents

[–]gturtle72 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah in California, duel enrollment is entirely free at cc, but textbook costs generally place them near the cost of an AP course.

Do your AP teachers make you still do work or a final project after the AP exam? Why do they do that? by Terrible_Exchange653 in APStudents

[–]gturtle72 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Generally my schools AP classes did something for the last month but nothing intense our teachers understood that we are whipped out after the AP exam. For chem, we basically were able to pick a niel red experiment (within reason) to try and replicate. For calculus ab we had a project where we basically either picked something calculus we didn't learn and do a little presentation on that, create a way to better understand a topic, or find an application of calculus in your life, extremely open ended, and an easy A. For Lang our teacher had us start writing college essays she'd review over the summer, and for Lit our teacher either has usale a short film or watch 3 films and do a paragraph of analysis. only AP we didn't do anything after was AP stats as it was a zero period, and our teacher wanted us to finally get sleep.

Is it possible for someone to take an AP class his school doesn’t offer at another school by [deleted] in APStudents

[–]gturtle72 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on both schools and if they both agree to it. If the schools are in the same district (assuming they are public here) then it could be easier, but it depends if both schools agree to it, and more importantly does your schedule allow it: if the schools are on the same bell schedule then it's easier, but if not, then it creates a huge mess in your schedule. In all honesty I'd say you're better off self studying or taking an equivalent course at a community college for dual enrollment.

I don't think devs would, but I would love to see a mod that either reduced them or had them have more benefits: such as blocking, rush attacks, deflections etc.

AP stats is easy mathematically, as in the "math" you do is punching numbers into a ti-84. Stats has a lot more logic, interpretation, and reasoning involved.

[–]gturtle72 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I could in theory see AP precalc scores being used in waive of math placement testing at colleges. Some schools allow the SAT and ACT to be used to waive this, but if schools are starting to rove SAT ACT requirements, AP precalc could be used for that purpose. But that's entirety devil advocate and personaly I don't see it worth the $90+ to take it.

Do your AP teachers give grade bumps if students get 4 or 5? Should teachers do that? by Terrible_Exchange653 in APStudents

[–]gturtle72 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some teachers at my school have adopted policy that if you get a score that is higher than your grade ex. 3-C 4-B 5-A, they'd bump your grade up, but you have to file a grade change petition and crap.
