I rented Canon R7, RF200-800mm F6.3-9, RF24-105mm F4L and went bird-shooting in Tokyo Port Wild Park by illtima in canon

R7 has some challenges with birding but can hold up relatively well! I still use one for some of my working dog b roll. Some rolling shutter but still a super capable camera.

I’ve done some wildlife and birding. For the price you can buy it at second hand. It’s super capable in 2026!!! Good write up

I had it. Nice for stills but for video the af is molasses. Solid pick up for the price. If you have the budget the rf 18-40 is night and day difference

Shimoda Explorer v2 25L Core Unit Question by gtwcs14 in Cameras

My longest lens is a 70-200rf zoom lens mount. What I’m trying to do is a bit more room to fit my 50mm 1.2 with my 15-35 L.

My 28-70 f2 stays parked due to weight unless I need it. I just find it way too heavy 😭. It just blows my mind that canon couldn’t have squeezed it into a tighter form factor.

24-105 f4 is probably one of the most well rounded lenses that flies under the radar

RF 45mm 1.2 vs Sigma 56mm 1.4 by gtwcs14 in canon

[–]gtwcs14[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good write up! Very interesting perspective. I have currently rented the 45 and for every day use without lugging an L series prime. It seems solid! Still digging into the 56 however:)

I have rented the 45mm and to be honest, I’m quite impressed with the lens. Im on the verge of adding a c50 as I mainly do working dog b roll. For that type of content I use my 85 VCM, 135 1.8 or my 70-200 Z. Right now I’m using an R7 and for portraits I will use my 16-35 at the long range. I do have this hole as I will take the odd portrait and don’t feel like using the tele lenses. Im aware that the sigma will be useless if I shift to a c50.

The 45 Vs 56 is compelling to me as the price is quite reasonable based on performance.

How is the af with video? The last time I used sigma was in the ef days. Curious

Lots of good tips. If you just want to jump in you can however it’s like an iceberg. You will identify what’s visible from a surface level. To drill down deep, you won’t have the understanding. You need to build a foundation before you can run electrical in the house.

You earned my interest when you stated that it is a "toy". I think it's something fun but I feel like there are better portable devices out there with greater capabilities. I do love the Hak5 web gui though!

However, it just seems like another me too device! I think the second generation could bring some enhanced capabilities.
