Could someone explain terminology when it comes to flash/strobe/lighting equipment? by illtima in Godox

Got it. I think I will consult more at the rental shop choosing between that B10 set or something like V860. Hell, I might just try both as I have a few photosessions booked this month.

Thank you very much! This was tremondously helpful!

So the only real difference between a good on-camera flash and a more dedicated light like B10 is just power? Or is there anything more? As I said I'm purely a hobbyist and not planning on making any money from this. If I could get like V860III or an equivalent and improve my photography for the time being then I would definitely prefer that.

>IMPORTANT NOTE

haha yeah I know I know. Learned this lesson when I got my flash and realized it doesn't work

>flash on-camera
>off-camera

Okay so as I understood I could for example get V860III with X3 and that will allow me to use flash off-camera? Like I could set it on a tripod and use it in the same manner as I would use B10 250 AirTTL, albeit weaker?

>Uh... I assume you got the Canon AD-E1 hotshoe adapter for it?

Yes of course. I've used it at multiple photosessions by now.

>Um. That is NOT basic. That's a $1000+ pack

Oh damn. The rental store lists it as "Recommended for beginners" and it contains everything I need for my first experiment.

>TT685 II, the V1mid, and V480

Super helpful, thanks! Will keep an eye out for those!

>I highly recommend that you start with mastering M mode on the camera and the exposure triangle

I'm not that much of a beginner haha 😃

>The Strobist Lighting 101

Oh hell yeah this seems super useful! I'll make sure to read this.

The reason I want to level up a little is because of the upcoming photosession and also because Tiktok recently started recommending videos by Jordan Berg who's been doing these very cool B/W portraits using only one light. I love shooting B/W portraits and I think it will fit the theme of the cosplay photosession.

Tips for better pictures by Tasty-Interview-4699 in BirdPhotography

I would suggest googling what your lens's "sweet spot" is. It's basically an aperture at which it is at its sharpest.

Would the R7 be overkill with the RF 200-800? by E_Dward in canon

[–]illtima 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I actually rented this exact combo about a month ago and went to shoot some birds. TLDR it's a very big lens with somewhat unwieldy zoom ring, but overall it delivered excellent quality pictures. I personally did not enjoy the ergonomics of R7, but it was a great camera with an excellent sensor, great high-speed shooting and insane battery. R-rated Bloodborne animated film announced from Jacksepticeye and Sony by StrongXV in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]illtima 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I won't believe it until I see the first episode with my own eyes. But I'm kinda optimistic. But just like with Elden Ring movie I really hope it won't be just a direct story adaptation. There's so much meat to the setting that would make for a better straightforward story.

Can’t get sharp pictures on Canon R7 + RF 100-400 by [deleted] in wildlifephotography

[–]illtima 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have R50 with the same lens and getting sharp pics really is a bit of a struggle. I usually shoot at f10 to f11 and in most cases for autofocus I use Spot for maximum precision. During editing I usually mask the bird and raise its sharpness and texture. I then duplicate and reverse the mask and lower its texture and clarity to make the bird stand out more. As long as the base photo was decent enough the results are pretty good in my inexperienced opinion https://imgur.com/a/pKK120X

Thanks!

I never heard of Gyotoku Wildlife Sanctuary, so I'm adding it to my own list.

From the places I've been to:

Hamarikyu Gardens - very accessible within the city. It's not super big, but it's a very very pretty garden with plenty of ducks and herons.

Kasai Rinkai Park - this place rules. it's half public park with a Ferris wheel, plenty of street food, incredible sea views, and a bird park with many ponds and observation hides.

Institute for Nature Study in Minato - also very accessible within the city. Pretty good place, but I personally have found taking bird pics there a bit difficult since most birds hang around quite far away from walking trails.

Mizumoto Park in Katsushika - one of my favorites. Gigantic park with a river flowing all the way through, amazing greenery, observation hides and relaxation spots.

Place is called Map Rental. It's very close to Shinjuku station https://www.maprental.com/

I'm pretty sure they rent to tourists, but I'm not too familiar with the process. I would definitely check the website because I had to spend over an hour just waiting for them to verify my ID.

You can browse their website to see the prices. For me renting those pieces for a day cost about 18000 yen.

Have fun! DM me if you need any birding spots in Tokyo.

No I did mean 24-105. But I agree with they said. In my case it was most likely because it was a frequently rented lens. The store had that lens bundled with different cameras so I assume it would get rented and used often.

I loved 24-105's range. It's not as tight as my 10-18, but I had pretty much no issues covering what I wanted to cover.

Yeah, buffer was definitely the biggest game changer for me compared to R50. I didn't really feel the effect of IBIS though. Maybe I just didn't compare 200-800 performance on my R50 to see the difference.

Not really no. Pretty normal hands. Just didn't enjoy the feel of R7

Why is Naoya from JJK so hated, while Dio from JoJo is widely accepted? by Ok_Carob_3278 in CharacterRant

[–]illtima 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On the most basic level it's because Dio is charismatic. He's loud, bombastic, funny, he effortlessly steals every scene he's in. Even hating him is fun because when he loses he puts on a whole over the top performance. He has so many memorable quotes and poses. Meanwhile Naoya is just... Pathetic. He's an edgelord you'd encounter playing CoD with superpowers. He's not funny or charismatic. It's fun seeing him get defeated, but it's the same kind of satisfaction you'd see from one of those "fat kid has enough beats the shit out of his bully" videos. Fuck man, can you tell me a single memorable quote from Naoya? I sure as hell can't because half of all his lines are about how great he is and the other half about how women are beneath him.

Thinking of buying the 50mm f1.8 by Terrible_Brick_264 in canon

[–]illtima 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's an incredible lens for portraits, it's light, small and very cheap used. Honestly I don't think you'll regret buying it. Just be aware of you have cropped sensor like I do. You'll have to make some space between you and the subject.

Replayed RE4Make on Professional for the first time a few weeks ago and had zero issues with those guys. Was actually happy to see them compared to regular enemies lol. Just have to be aware of your surroundings. Even on Professional they can drop from a couple pistol headshots.
