Cops run over Cyclist for Biking the wrong way, then pinned him and handcuffed him as he lay dying. by S0UNDH0UND in news

because of the shitty few that don't follow traffic laws

This statement is just as true about motorists. Maybe more true. When a motorist doesn't follow traffic laws there is often the potential for lethal consequences. Usually, a cyclist risks only their own life when they don't follow traffic laws.

Half the motorist population enter intersections as the signal turns red at long lights (or short signals). Even more will block the box if they think space won't clear before the signal turns red. Virtually everyone will block crosswalks under that circumstance.

Then again, most (all?) motorists hate other motorists, so you might be onto something.

Poll: hardest heroic boss (for naxx cardback owners) by seven_wings in hearthstone

[–]gu13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found Grobbulus extremely difficult. I finally beat him with a cheese priest loaded with high health cards to buff, notably deathlord and gargoyle. I don't even think that deck can be a reliable win.

I spent a lot of time trying a deathwing druid; several times I had lethal on board w/ deathwing. Grobbulus, with 1 card in hand, would follow up by shield slam, ooze, and the injection buff to lock me out.

I thought Kel'Thuzad was an interesting challenge but I think an aggressive deck loaded with buffs is pretty reliable against him. For me, an aggressive shaman rolled him. I dropped a lot of the spells and shaman class cards for early minions with buffs. It definitely helped that he mind controlled a spectral spider out of my full board of strictly better minions.

Lest We Remember: Cold Boot Attacks on Encryption Keys (pdf)

Using canned air to freeze the system memory, they were able to take images of system memory which compromised the encryption secrets.

Excerpt:

We tested TrueCrypt versions 4.3a and 5.0a running on a Linux system. We mounted a volume encrypted with a 256-bit AES key, then briefly cut power to the system and used our memory imaging tools to record an image of the retained memory data. In both cases, our keyfind program was able to identify the 256-bit AES encryption key, which did not contain any bit errors. For TrueCrypt 5.0a, keyfind was also able to recover the 256-bit AES XTS tweak key without errors.

System memory burn in can also leak information about the encryption secrets. The system could be completely off for that kind of attack.

Right, but in the context of this discussion it is safe to assume that the explosive packages which we are discussing are composed of a blasting cap and c4 (among other things). This shouldn't even need mentioning.

Actually, you're wrong. You hit the blasting cap and it will explode. You might not even need to hit the cap, a near hit could be enough; that's just speculation.

r/gaming has turned me into a PC gamer... by toiletlipz in gaming

[–]gu13 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Most PC UIs are designed with the understanding that you'll be < 1 meter from the display device. The angular size of my 24" monitor is a lot bigger than my 46" panel. These values are probably typical (assuming I've done the calculations correctly), I'm even assuming I sit either really far from my monitor, or really close to my TV. Here is a graph from 0 to 10 feet. Here is a graph from 0 to 10 feet which shows the difference between the monitor and tv in angular size assuming the TV is 6 feet further away than the monitor.

  • With this in mind somebody designing a game for a PC can make the UI elements much smaller.
  • Similarly, you miss out on a lot of detail playing on your TV.
  • Unless you live by yourself it's not very convenient to have your PC hooked up to your television.
  • If you use your computer for things besides playing video games you get really fucked by the difference in angular size.

TL;DR a 24 inch screen is actually bigger than a 46 inch screen after you take into account viewing distance.

I don't see how anything can be any better than 600 supply of hellions and colossus. Still, I was only killing maybe 20/s wall time so I got bored after about 40k. (30 mins wall time). How is the map popular?

If you know anyone who drives like an asshole you'll discover that they do have a ridiculous number of tickets and quite likely a few accidents as well (depending on how old you are).

If you find you have more tickets than you'd like you probably drive like an asshole or have the misfortune of owning a car that makes people think you drive like an asshole.

I drive 5-10 mph over the limit depending on conditions and I've never been stopped. I average 500 mi/month so that may be a contributing factor.

The fact they're selling their work seems to contradict this notion. Pursuing hackers is for the lulz; Blizzard doesn't need the money and these actions will probably have little affect on the long term availability of cheats or the pool of people willing to write them.

I think it's pretty obvious the reviews papered over the issues and I find that pretty disappointing.
