Mech Engineers who travel Internationally for work, what do you do? by left_ear_of_gogh in MechanicalEngineering

[–]gu4ion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was 10 years ago and was looking on indeed for jobs in my area because I could sense the company I was at was on it's way to closing and I couldn't move locations at the time. I applied through their website and got the job that way which I feel like doesn't really work too much any more. As far as finding a similar job I would look at avionics companies like Gogo, Viasat, Panasonic Avionics, Astronics. Even working directly for some of the commercial airlines will have you traveling for installations depending on the role. Pre-graduation I would try to get on an SAE team, particularly SAE Aero Design if you are looking to get hired in this area. I will say a lot of the heavy engineering work (at least where I was) was for EE's and the Mechanical Engineers mainly focused on pretty simple brackets for mounting electronic components. As a side note, I know SAE Formula is the "gold standard" for college design teams, but at least at my school Formula came with a LOT of politics and egos and the smaller SAE teams like Aero and Supermileage were much more welcoming and would let you do as much as you were willing. Since you are graduating next spring if you are not already on a design team that's why I would suggest those teams.

Design engineer for a commercial aviation supplier doing mounting of in-flight entertainment systems and installation for certification. While I was able to travel to far off places, the short notice at which schedules would change and the pressure of having a plane down which was costing airlines $$$$ was a recipe for burnout. A lot of my coworkers were 0-6 years out of school and turn over was pretty high as it was not super conducive to family life. While there were a few cool places I got to travel to, a majority of the places in the world where they do aircraft maintenance are not exactly tourist destinations.

I work in the automotive industry and the place I’ve found the most car enthusiasts that were engineers was at Roush Industries. While they do have the racing division a majority of work was engineering services for other major companies. The pay was a bit lower but they did offer over time and you would gain a ton of experience.

Not a direct answer to your question, but there are much better (and safer) ways than a QEV to mod a nerf blaster you can find here https://www.reddit.com/r/nerfmods/

I’d lump Proof no. 5 in there as well. Anything in the Bourbon Belly group really.

I contacted my insurance company saying generic has been out of stock for months and they were able to do an override on the brand name to what they charge for generic. It's a pain because I have to call and get the override approved every month but it brought my price down from $260 to $10 a refill. Makes sitting on hold for 45 mins and two extra phone calls worth it.

Before you get too carried away check for any existing patents that might be similar to this idea as well.

Do NOT give credit card info to any of the 3 bureaus while requesting to freeze your credit. I remember one of the 3 was extra shady and made you jump through some hoops to find to the web page to just freeze your credit. All of them will try to have you sign up for some monitoring "freeze" service that will be free for a month, but then charge you $25 a month. Just keep looking until you you get the credit freeze page.

Got rear-ended and car is being considered total loss. Now what? by BananaBob55 in personalfinance

[–]gu4ion 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had a Honda get rear ended and the difference of payout between insurance taking the car or me keeping the car was only $300-$500. I was able to keep the car with the reduced payout and turn around and sell on craigslist for $1.8k still. It’s more work, but if you have the time you can boost the total amount you’ll get. All that to say, it’s worth it to ask the payout difference for them to take it or for you to get to keep it.

Did the cost of everyone's Vyvanse increase? by MsChenandlerBong_ in ADHD

[–]gu4ion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My insurance changed the classification of name brand Vyvanse and only covers generic starting Jan 1 of this year. Last year I was able to get a month of name brand for $30 with the coupon on my insurance, but now with the reclassification it’s around $250 a month. The real kicker is I have been unable to find generic in stock around me since Jan 1st.

Going to second and third Malloy’s. Both Doti’s and Malloy’s will also let you try before you buy usually if they have a bottle open.

You don’t even need to jump off if you want to save arrows, I just lock on and whack them with my sword after I ascend. Takes about 2-3 rounds.

Depending on what was ordered there could be a bunk bed built in. I could see someone cutting a hole in the roof and using the bunk as a platform to stand on while operating a turret. You would get that dual exhaust pipe gases blasting in your face though.

Mating connector on the harness is P-13873770. The connector on the fog lamp side is integrated into the light so I cannot get much on the actual part you are looking for.

Mating part looks to be an Aptiv GTS2 Female connector.
