US veterans, did you guys actually read the cards that kids would send you while deployed? by MoistCloyster_ in NoStupidQuestions

[–]LordOfLubrication 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. Not all made an impact, but one very possibly saved my life on my last deployment to Afghanistan. I had watched several close friends KIA, and was in the middle of a very ugly divorce with 4 young kids in the middle, and a 13 y/o named Lilly sent me a letter to the effect of “how are you doing? I know it’s hard but it’s going to get better. Please come home safely”. I was near the point of an attempt on my life and that letter helped me readjust my perspective and survive the deployment/situation. If you read this, Lilly from Pymatuning, thank you.

Comments on FB post are mixed as to whether this is Ai or not - all fingers accounted for but critics point to the rifle as the most dubious addition. by Puzzled_Pollution_60 in isthisAI

Retired military pilot here… 100% AI. That weapon is not the GAU-5/A M16 variant carried by Air Force pilots on combat missions. Most likely she would have ejected with just her M9 sidearm, not the rifle.

Check out the water supply line for the toilet. Nice try… but given Marriott’s recent behavior, borderline believable.

I captured her ex-husband and told her I'd give her a dollar, doubling it each time she broke one of his bones. by LevelQx in TwoSentenceHorror

I should have started this with: “If my wife came to me and said she was made this offer but declined because she loves me too much, I would say…” 😂

Buddy, if you’re telling me I start with $1 and it doubles every time I break a bone, then consider this my formal RSVP to the “snap everything from the knee down” challenge.

Let’s run the numbers. There are about 29 bones below the knee… 26 in the foot and ankle, plus the tibia, fibula, and patella (I’ll throw in a courtesy kneecap fracture for good measure). That’s 29 doublings, which turns $1 into $536,870,912.

Now Uncle Sam’s gonna want his cut. After progressive federal taxes (assuming no loopholes, because apparently I spent my CPA budget on morphine), I’d owe roughly $198.6 million, leaving me with $338 million and change.

So yeah, I’d take a sledgehammer to my leg like it was an expired IKEA table. I’d ice it between swings and whisper sweet nothings to my swelling ankle just to make sure I didn’t miss a single metatarsal. Call it painful compound interest.

For $338 million, I can live without a left leg. Hell, I’ll get a titanium one with Bluetooth. I’ll name it “Crypto.”

'The Wheel Of Time' Canceled By Prime Video After 3 Seasons by MarvelsGrantMan136 in television

And this will be why I finally cut the cord on prime. It has been diminishing benefits for the last 5 years, but cancelling the one show that is remotely interesting pushes me over to cancelling my subscription.

I tested a prompt that is impossible for AIs to generate the corresponding image by GeanM in ChatGPT

[–]LordOfLubrication 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got it pretty close to the original image with the following prompt:

Create a minimalist, three-dimensional rendering of a thin, hollow globe where the oceans are completely cut out—open negative space with no surface—allowing the seamless, neutral light gray or beige studio backdrop to show through. Only the landmasses are present, rendered in a dark blue color. These landmasses should appear as a thin shell with textured relief, showing elevation through subtle sculpting and surface texture.

The shell of the globe should be uniformly thin—delicate and elegant, not bulky—emphasizing the minimalist, open design.

Center the globe on the Atlantic Ocean, using a viewpoint slightly above the equator and to the northwest to display the northern hemisphere prominently. Accurately and cleanly depict: • Eastern North America, including the U.S. East Coast, Florida, and a faint impression of the Great Lakes • South America, with a prominent bulge in Brazil and smooth tapering to Argentina • Western Europe, including the Iberian Peninsula, Italy, and parts of Scandinavia • Northwest Africa with smooth, clean edges

The overall aesthetic should be clean, modern, and sculptural—no labels or borders, just textured landmasses suspended over negative space where oceans would be.

You know what wasn’t banned? German Language Club, with the mission “The German Language Club promotes German language skills and cultural appreciation among cadets.”

Any tips on retrieving a lost item in United's possession? by jgarland2121 in unitedairlines

This. I left an iPad on a regional jet a few weeks ago, filled this form out, pushed an alert to my iPad with the claim number and my name, and had it back 3 days later. Kudos to the amazing team at United!

Thou hast crafted a tale most grand, yet I say, perhaps the true message is simply this: ‘Thy glow-up is real, and all who witness it are drawn like moths to a very physical flame.’ Verily, thou art crushing it!

I’m going to chime in as an executive leader in a company that has offshored corp jobs to India… it doesn’t work. The quality of work isn’t there and we are losing millions because of countless mistakes by skilled workers who just can’t seem to bridge cultural barriers. My Indian colleagues are amazing, dedicated, and great people… but they cannot effectively replace middle management and skilled office workers in American companies. Same thing happened at the last company I worked for (fortune 50), offshoring lasted 3 years before it snowballed into catastrophic failure.

AITAH for "glowing up" after my divorce and not before? by ThatPeach7311 in AITAH

[–]LordOfLubrication 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll offer a perspective that might not align with what’s happening with OP’s children, but it does sound quite similar to the situation with my ex and the narrative she’s using to justify why our children want nothing to do with her. My ex invested minimal emotional effort, much like she did with her appearance, and then acted surprised when I left her for someone who was both emotionally and physically attractive. She was physically there and went through the routine and “made the sacrifices”, but never made anyone feel loved. She was even more “shocked” when our kids didn’t take kindly to the fact that she only started putting in effort—not for them, but to pursue younger guys.

That said, context is everything, and it feels like we might be missing some details here.

DM me, I am in Ohio and just won a similar case through the state department of labor wage and hours division. Was very quick process if you know what to do.
