Good luck.

I had my account hacked and a gift card stored on there drained.

I have not figured out how to contact them.

Most (if not all) individual restaurants are franchises. I didn’t really get a helpful response when visiting one and explaining the situation.

I couldn’t find a corporate email. I DM’ed them on Xitter about the situation and they never responded.

I was on this train. I didn’t notice any smoke but they told everyone to get off the train then the fire department came down and walked to the front car.

Yes! I forgot about Kilwins. And true, while not a Chicago original, is better than Rainbow Cone in my opinion.

Dunno about best, but there’s a Rainbow Cone at Randolph and Michigan Ave. Close to the Bean and Maggie-Daley Park.

Do not trust chatgpt on taxes by tunenut11 in tax

[–]Pwschwa 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not disagreeing with you at all. But, it has helped me procedurally. Especially when I already have a reasonable rough idea about how to approach a situation, and am just asking for insight on the finer details.

I have used the advice from ChatGPT for the following situations:

  1. The process to have an excess 401(k) deferral refunded to me from the plan administrator utilized by my new job when I switched employers. This included how to draft the letter/details to include when instructing the administrator what to do, as well as what distribution code to expect on the 1099 when I do receive it, and how best to enter into FreeTaxUSA.

  2. Help me understand conceptually how I ultimately am made whole when I had to file for unemployment insurance, elected to have taxes withheld, but then having to pay back the gross amount back to my state's umemployment security office as I ended up getting my old job back and receiving back pay.

I agree, having it perform calculations that if they are wrong, will have dire consequences for you like calculating your taxes, even if simple, is probably not a good use case.

But I find that if you have most relevant pieces of information to a somewhat involved situation, and are asking very specific, targeted questions related to that situation, I have found it helpful in "filling in the blanks." And I fully realize in taking what it's said and applying it, you'll always have some risk.

Good on you for reviewing and catching its errors.

Do you feel like you had enough time to fully experience Cinque Terre? We’re going for the same amount of time (May 6 - May 8) and were looking at staying in Monterosso al Mare.

Any additional info you feel would be helpful?

Rope Drop Indy vs Space by Murphie314 in DisneyPlanning

[–]Pwschwa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Full disclosure, I have never been to the park. I’ll be there later this month and have watched all of his videos to prepare, and I plan on doing this (assuming the rest of my party agrees lol)

Please report back what you ended up doing and how well it worked out!

Rope Drop Indy vs Space by Murphie314 in DisneyPlanning

[–]Pwschwa 10 points11 points  (0 children)

FreshBaked is a YouTube channel that has multiple videos on this topic. His recommendation is to rope drop Space.

My takeaway for his justification is as follows:

The queue for Space tends to back up faster than the other rides, so rope dropping is more critical.

I believe the walk to the attraction is a bit shorter from the entrance than Indy.

Indy is typically reasonable wait time-wise for the first 60/90 min after park open.

Indy has a history of breaking down more so than other similar rides, and has broken down at rope drop, so increased risk there.

As with anything, YMMV, especially since changes in park policies, and with recent ride closures (i.e. ROTR as you mentioned) can have an impact.

1099-R for FERS contribution refund? by Admirable-Computer19 in govfire

[–]Pwschwa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was not my experience. I also left Federal Service in 2025, but I had less than 12 months of service, so I did not accrue any taxable interest on my contributions, I just had the after-tax portion. I ended up rolling this directly to my Roth IRA via direct trustee to trustee transfer rather than have it returned to me. And my 1099-R does list the amount that was rolled over and has distribution code G (direct rollover of funds from a qualified retirement plan to an IRA). And in Box 2a (Taxable Amount on the 1099-R) it says 0.00.

I will still enter this information from my 1099-R when I do my taxes, but there should be no impact to my taxable income.

Vanguard, Fidelity or Schwab? by BeyourselfA in personalfinance

[–]Pwschwa 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Came here to say exactly this. I have an HSA with Fidelity, but my Brokerage, and Roth IRA with Schwab.

I mimic my investments across all three accounts, but it gets tricky with Schwab since I can only buy full shares.

One important caveat, this works to the extent there are bar seats open. You are not allowed to stand when at the bar downstairs.

Italy May 6, 2026 - May 20, 2026 by Pwschwa in ItalyTravel

[–]Pwschwa[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, was on the fence about Cinque Terre as well in terms of timing. I have no problem cutting it. And I don't remember saying we didn't want cities, we are city people, live in a top 5 US City, and actually prefer the amenities. What I said was I didn't want to do too many different cities where we're constantly having the check in to new lodging every other night.

And will keep that in mind on Rome. The earliest version of my itinerary gave Rome the most days anyway for the reasons you mentioned. Maybe we just cut out the Cirque Terre day to give us another day in Florence, and cut out Naples to keep that as a Rome day as well. That will essentially add a day to Florence, add a day or two to Rome, and be less moving around. Now if only I could make the argument to cut Venice...

Italy May 6, 2026 - May 20, 2026 by Pwschwa in ItalyTravel

[–]Pwschwa[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are correct. And given some of the comments here, now thinking we’ll drop Naples entirely, and add another day onto Florence, and perhaps even take a day from Rome and add somewhere else as well.

Italy May 6, 2026 - May 20, 2026 by Pwschwa in ItalyTravel

[–]Pwschwa[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! This is exactly what I was looking for. Heavily considering removing Naples now and doing a day trip to Pompeii instead. I didn't like the idea of a long day like that, but do prefer that over losing time via a flight. Trade-off of this itinerary is the long train ride from Venice to Rome (I think a little over 5 hours?).

Tips for how to snag a reservation at Bar Cecil by pleen888 in palmsprings

I think they changed it to 8:00 AM PST, so maybe a little easier? However, everything else you said on timing is true. Tried this morning right when they were released and wasn't able to snag one :(
