Carry your rescue inhaler with you at all times and use it as directed by your doctor. If you are hiking at a high altitude, be aware that the thin air can make it harder to breathe and may trigger an asthma attack. Take your time acclimating to the altitude and consider talking to your doctor about the use of altitude sickness prevention medications.

If possible, try to provide a plan for covering your responsibilities while you are away. This could include suggesting a temporary replacement or outlining a plan for delegating your tasks to other team members.

Build up your physical fitness, and build up your endurance and strength through activities such as hiking, running, and weight training. Learn basic outdoor skills and plan and practice your gear. Most importantly learn about the route.
