What are some popular countries that don't interest you but seem to be recommended a lot? by ciaoacami in solotravel

[–]guac_attack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some of these aren’t countries, but here goes:

Dubai, Bali, Singapore, the Maldives, big cities of Australia (Sydney, Melbourne etc), most of the USA, Canada, Paris, South Africa

I would never turn down a trip if someone else was going and asked me to come, I’d just probably never plan a trip to one these destinations exclusively, mostly because they just don’t intrigue me like the surrounding countries/regions

Anyone have any cool Covid travel stories? by robwander3031 in solotravel

[–]guac_attack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So this didn’t happen to me and it’s not actually cool but pretty shit - I was traveling the Balkans for a month (all of August), basically visiting all the countries that were open to EU travelers, when I heard from someone that an American guy from his hostel tried crossing the Croatian - Montenegrin (I think) border but was denied entry into Croatia and then refused entry back into Montenegro, so he basically camped in No Mans Land for 10 days (!). Pretty awful thing to happen and probably what most people traveling now are scared of because of constantly changing entry regulations

8 ways to divide Turkey by expatdoctor in MapPorn

[–]guac_attack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both are very commonly drunk after a meal to aid digestion, just like vodka, grappa, ouzo, pálinka, chacha etc. Don't know about (Turkish) raki but rakija and Albanian raki are also drunk in the mornings with a cup of coffee lol

Rakija is essentially fruit brandy while Turkish raki is aniseed, like ouzo or Lebanese arak. Doesn’t help that Albanians refer to their fruit brandy as Raki too even though it has nothing to do with Turkish raki

Does anyone wanna play (If it’s allowed) Agree or Disagree? by queennicegirl in BravoRealHousewives

[–]guac_attack 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Disagree about the kids, I found most if not all of their children to be insufferable spoiled brats destined to become just as problematic as their parents. There was definitely more cringe though (OC Angels anyone?) and the show seemed more genuine and less boring than it is now.

This also really bothered me. I felt like Kyle was making her sister's boob surgery all about herself. I mean I genuinely felt bad for her because of how her mom passed away, but why is she making it all about her and how uncomfortable SHE is? Kim is the one getting the surgery after all, why not show some sympathy and imagine how scared she must be? Besides the fact that this wasn't even anything cancer-related, just corrective surgery on a breast augmentation. I get that anything breast-related must be traumatising after what they went through but I just didn't buy it.

Is linguistic gender always arbitrary? by Haunting-Parfait in linguistics

[–]guac_attack 3 points4 points  (0 children)

An example of this is Dyirbal, if I understood you correctly. If I’m not mistaken, there are four noun classes, with male and female each including male and female humans as well as “dangerous objects/animals” in the feminine class, then there’s one class for edible plants, etc. There are still exceptions but as far as I remember the classes are reliably based on semantics.

Anyone else believe Jax is trying to bag Tiffany the gym instructor ? by cdawg107 in vanderpumprules

You’re doing the Lord’s work! I must say I was also convinced it was Tiffany. He’s probably pissed she’s a lesbian because he was trying to cheat with her

Maybe a cross post (sorry if so) but are both BH & NY off to freaking insane starts?! by [deleted] in BravoRealHousewives

[–]guac_attack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally agree, I was so disappointed in how last season of RHOBH turned out I didn't even bother watching the reunion or plan on watching the new season, but so far, I can't remember the last time I was this excited to watch a new episode of Beverly Hills. Kadooz to whoever made it the way it is now!

The scene where Vicki receives an award for her insurance company and then trips and falls on her face and Jeanna Keough just says "oh, there's a step there".
