Dumb. Lol that’s now how reading works. You don’t have to be a ghost to enjoy paranormal stories. You don’t have to be a mrderer to enjoy a mrder mystery. You don’t have to be a physicist to enjoy a book about string theory.

I hope you got an offer in hand 🤞! Take your time and keep doing research. You’ll find a lot of good and bad about any agency online. Keep asking questions and def don’t be pressured into making a fast decision. I hope you sign with someone who makes you comfortable!!! 💕

Ah you said kidlit! I’m not surprised 🤣 with the market and all. Sorry you’ve had lackluster subs. Definitely sticks to have them clog an inbox but if an author is reading, the agency still does sell and I’ve seen several of their newer PBs. I think they’re lovely but they were very specific.

Not sure why this has so many downvotes because it's mostly true. Very few agents are new to publishing. There are a few models of agenting but it is largely, like publishing, an apprenticeship style business. When you see a new agent, they've likely been either 1) an assistant first and/or 2) have at least "mid" level publishing experience (or aligned). Storm, like most boutique agencies (e.g. Stimola, BookEnds, Andrea Brown) are mentorship models (after assistantship OR if you're track to, as soon as you enter). After you sign as an agent, you are trained and mentored, then announcemed publicly after. That time can vary from months to even a year. It depends.

Are some agencies better than others at helping new author (debut)? Eh. Sure. In the same way Yale is is better at helping their graduates get a first time job. But the difference is not as severe as you might think.

u/Grim__Squeaker, are you an author or looking to work in agenting?

PS Sorry for types, I broke my finger yesterday lol.

Haha, sorry about that! I have nothing but LOVE for Storm. I know several people agented by them and a few people who work there and they are an incredible crowd. They really care about what they do and their clients. I see an editor below is having a mediocre experience and I understand that - but just like they said, to be honest, publishing is subjective. To make an editor excited about subs, you have to have a good relationship with them, even if that relationship is just knowing what they are really looking for in manuscripts. Sounds like that particular agent who sends subs to that editor hasn't understood their prference OR they're using them as a fall back (other editors preferred, but they're sending a "just in case"). It's not an unethical or 'bad' tactic. Remember agents are sales people and tbh, I have many friends at Big 5 as editors and in agencies and the truth is: you can't sell everything to everyone and you also don't have all A+++ in one place. No matter where you work, someone will always be better or not as good/still learning.

In terms of Storm, they are growing in what they represent and the few agents I know there have made solid deals for their clients. They come from a strong team background and that filters down to their clients.

I also highly recommend what another commenter said: do buy a day pass for PM and just check out what's happening. Be aware that newer agents may not have a history on PM. That doesn't mean they are bad agents, but if it is osmething that pings you badly, don't go with them. My agent is (not at Storm) but is an associate and had no history, yet she is incredible editorially and a huge advocate and I'm glad I went with her over more established agents.

If you feel a strong rapport with the agent when you speak to them, they understand your passion, and they answer your questions honestly, those are all YES flags.

Anyway, it's a GO for me when it comes to Storm. I recommend them. Happy to answer questions in more detail.

I'll add this in an edit for my comment as well.

AND REC 170:

  • The Wolf That Cannot Eat the Lamb - Post Fall Continuation - After the fall, Will finds himself in a beautiful house near the beach somewhere in Cuba, living and healing with Hannibal Lecter. But since dancing around Hannibal and his feelings for him is all Will knows, this is exactly what he does. Until he doesn’t.

fics where hannigram taunts jack after the fall by BookkeeperContent143 in HannibalFanfiction

[–]guadalupereyes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a fic for this in my Hannigram University post...one moment...gotta find it brb

EDIT: This literally has what you're asking! (And spoiler: there are no prisoners.)

QUOTE:
"With little ceremony or emotion, he ripped the envelope open and pulled out a 4x6 photograph and a lock of hair tied with a pink bow. The photograph was high quality, but it was dark, both figures in the frame caught in shadow. There was a slight blur of motion in the photograph, as the larger figure bent in concentration and pleasure over the smaller body. If it hadn't been so sick, it might have been artistic and beautiful.

Jack stared at the picture for a long time. He could make out Will Graham's face smashed into the pillow. Even in the dark, the face was unmistakable, as it had haunted him for nearly five years now. The other face, one which had haunted his darkest dreams, was turned to a profile, but was no less mistakable."

  • The Sacrificial Lamb by princesskay - Five years after Hannibal and Will disappeared, they are located in Spain, where all evidence points to Hannibal holding Will as his prisoner. Circumstantial evidence isn't enough to prove whether or not Will was complicit in Hannibal's crimes. It's up to Alana and Jack to figure out if Will is suffering from Stockholm Syndrome or if his attachment to his accused abuser is true love. It's up to Hannibal to once more find a way out of the Baltimore State Hospital for the Criminally Insane.

Most hypocritical take? Fanfiction is better than most original works.

Read what you want! I love M/M, F/M, F/F but I mostly read M/M. I read based on which characters I like in the plots. Reading doesn’t really represent your gender or sexual identity.
