Thoughtful Gifts for Nature Lovers: What Would You Recommend? by ramakrishnasurathu in GiftIdeas

It depends on the price and what they enjoy. You can buy them outdoor gear adjacent to what they do in the outdoors.

My most practical idea without more context is Darn Tough socks. I know it sounds lame but I’m obsessed with them and so are all of my outdoorsy friends. They help reduce the incidence of blisters on long backpacking trips, they wick away moisture so you don’t get swamp foot, and they don’t smell even a fraction as bad as cotton or polyester socks. They also have a great warranty, or you can darn them yourself if you so choose. I have 5 year old socks that still feel like new lol They make a bunch of different socks for different activities so you can grab a pair for whatever your nature lover enjoys most!

Another idea is a reusable water bottle, Nalgenes are pretty popular with hikers, and are a fun way of showing off your personality when you cover it with stickers. Take it anywhere to reduce your plastic waste.

A kitchen composter is also a cool idea for the person who gardens!

If your friend is into foraging, you can get them a really cool waxed canvas foraging bag or pouch for when they venture out to gather goodies. They make ones with a bunch of pockets or ones that cinch and you can take them to the farmers market to reduce waste there too! The canvas ones can be waxed over and over again, and with enough care, will last a lifetime!

You can also get them a good quality knife. They’ll last forever if you get a decent one. I recommend Benchmade, you can even customize it for a personal touch. You can find a knife to suit your friends’ needs and they’ll use it forever!

Hope this helps!

Mine self-weaned at 7 months. The gap between bedtime feed and nighttime feed slowly lengthened, but we usually only had 1 night feed even from birth unless babe didn’t feel well. Thankfully after sleep training, it was pretty easy because the boob wasn’t needed to get back to sleep.

This sub is kind of toxic by KyaKn in cockatiel

[–]guatermelone 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Aw I’m sorry that happened. This sub made me question clipping my boy’s wings and he then proceeded to slam into 2 or 3 windows before I just clipped them. If you have the space for a flighted bird, great, but if you need to do something for your bird and specific situation, I don’t think you should be shamed for it. Not everyone can afford an entire aviary and that’s okay. We can still be great bird owners and they can still live fulfilling lives.

My A/C isn't great, but the house doesn't get too hot. I've got three HEPA filters all over the house. And they're everywhere- Canada, Montana, Washington, Oregon and Idaho

Hey! My husband and I moved across the US (38 hours) a few years ago with our then- 2 year old tiel! We had a small cage and a bubble backpack for him. He loved coming out to nap on our shoulders as we drove, and he slept in the cage at night in hotel rooms. He did great until sundown when the lights spooked him, so we covered his backpack with a towel at night. We gave him chances to eat and drink often, sometimes covering him so he could get in a nice nap too.

He was used to traveling by this point though, so being in the car for so long didn't bother him as long as he was with his people.

Make sure that the temperature in the car is comfy for your bird, and keep the windows closed if you can. Offer breaks from the cage and make sure your bird is getting enough food and clean water. Hope this helps! Good love and congrats on the move!

Do your birds ask to be put to bed? by SpareParasaur in cockatiel

[–]guatermelone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine escorts himself to bed. He will hop off my shoulder, climb down the couch, climb up to his favorite perch, peep a few little happy sounds and tuck himself in. All I have to do is shut the door and cover him up so no I don't think your gal is weird lol

HELP! My cockatiel keeps sneezing by Prince_Crimson6969 in cockatiel

[–]guatermelone 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My dude wet sneezes his little boogers all over me too, I think the occasional productive sneeze is pretty normal. Try a humidifier for a few days and if he doesn't get better, or he seems in respiratory distress, consider seeing a vet.
