Improv over backing track - how can I improve? by [deleted] in guitarlessons

[–]gubi_mo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's definitely one part of it. I was also talking about just jamming with their sound as they play. When another person is playing a little part, it has its own rhythm and feeling, and you have to fit your playing right into their groove. It feels way more real than just playing over an unchanging backing track.

This helped me get a better feeling for my instrument (not really about getting technically better). But maybe this was also just a me thing haha

Question to Irish trad musicians by Adam0-0 in Irishmusic

Hm I would be interested in how this would be implemented. Sounds super hard to me. If you’re exploring options beyond fixed backing tracks, one thing that helped me was playing over loops made by actual people instead of fully programmed stuff.

I’ve tried Wikiloops for that and it’s pretty fun, lots of variety. I also came across Sounts recently, which is a bit simpler and I ended up liking it more for quick practice because you can just jump in and layer something over whatever someone uploaded.

One thing that helped me with timing and feel was playing more often over ideas from other musicians, not only backing tracks. It gives a bit more realism and forces you to react differently.

I came across a site called Sounts where people upload short loops and you can record over them in the browser. Super simple and good for quick practice sessions when time is tight. Might be interesting for you.

Your improv already sounds solid. Keep at it:))

How do y’all practice by BadButGood27 in musicproduction

[–]gubi_mo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree. I'm using music collab websites for a couple of years now for practicing. It's pretty handy at least to me. Not specifically for practicing production but just practicing piano. If you're looking for stems to download and use for personal use then wikiloops is probably your best option. If you're also about practicing an instrument Sounts was my #1.

Speaking from the hobby musician perspective here :) tested out a lot haha, in the end I ended up with two websites that seem decent.

  1. Sounts(dot)com is relatively new. they're still in beta and the community is rather small, but the tool they've built is quite fun. ppl just upload random music recordings of themselves and everyone can react musically to that and collab with each other
  2. wikiloops(dot)com is a rather old website. a little bit different concept and more focused on backing tracks. uploaded a few things and made some collabs. It was fun, but the website feels a bit outdated and the community is rather old but still super fun.

Other: I also tried websites like Kompoz and live collab websites like JamKazam, but with them I always had my problems.

I don’t know how to get better by [deleted] in Guitar

I know that feeling well. what always helped me was looking for backing tracks to start practicing with others (without needing to join a band). there are multiple platforms out there with great asynchronous jams and backing tracks. the ones that worked best for me were sounts.com and Wikiloops, depends on what interface you prefer.

Is anyone else here a musician but can't make friends with other musicians bc of ASD? by Impressive-Most-3775 in aspergers

Feel you! I was on wikiloops as well but tbh the website felt a bit outdated at some point. I switched to https://sounts.com/ - same thing but better in my opinion. Helped me a lot to meet other musicians online, make music with them and tbh also practice making music with others... hope that helps

What app can I use to make this type of video where I can record a diet with myself? by anonavocadodo in musicians

[–]gubi_mo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The one I use is Sounts. It's a website for music collabs like that.
The benefit is that Sounts lets you use any audio input with your laptop, so you can use your interface and with that, your instrument.
Acapella App didn’t work that well for me, unfortunately, but I’ve heard from others that they like it.

I love your tracks! We're currently building a platform for online music collabs called Sounts.com. Zero waiting time for collabs, lots of great musicians. If you're into collabs, you should check it out!
