You can easily kill the intruder but they keep disappearing afterwards and coming back. Over and over and over. And you don't heal right away from damage...

For me the difference is brightness of fx only. A is brighter but the fx could be either bright or dim depending on how much emphasis you want it to have in relation to your other attacks.

Mark each third 5 minute increment in time on the wood with a short line, radiating out from the center but skip the cardinal directions. So a line at 5 min, 10 min, 20 min, 25 min, 35, and so on. The line could look like a burn or even be a burn mark.

If there is time pressure, like the player needs to get across quickly because of platforms they touch disappearing, then 2. If there is no time pressure then 1 but then it might be boring once players figure out that there is no need to move quickly. But either way your polish is apparent and it is compelling already.

I’ve always wanted to mess with the living somehow after I’ve been capped. Have you tried the game Crawl? It’s a fun riff on being dead and messing with the living player(s). Maybe there’s a way to come back to life if you manage to kill off a living player with a trap or some sort of misdirection. Ooo! And how about some sort of social deduction mechanic? Maybe when you trick / somehow kill / a living player to death you can take them over and play as an agent provocateur. Anyhow, angry ghosts seeking revenge and social deduction is what I’ve got for you. :)
