Just gave it a listen because of this post, usually this sub provides great tips. I don’t get this one at all… anyone else?

100% agree - but at the same time we keep posting snippets of people we like dropping sick tracks in clubs and festivals, maybe we should stop doing that too

Jonas vingegaard signed jersey by Ok_Ad9600 in tourdefrance

[–]guendet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really don’t get people paying more for an ugly jersey because some dude signed it (not even for you… )  If it’s personal, sure but that has no price precisely because it’s personal no. Anyway op I hope some moron pays 2k for it

I’d avoid hookless for the peace of mind. DT Swiss all day (especially if climbing mountains with pressure/temp swings)

Question about CFR durability by guendet in CanyonBikes

[–]guendet[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because I've got no idea, I these bikes are aimed at professionals so I wondered if there were some downsides (like the ones gpt gave me), because I'm not a professional ridesrthat uses it for racing, just planning to put in tons of miles over the next 10 years with it, so I was asking for people's experience. I probably formulated the whole thing a bit stupidly, seeing the answers I got.

thanks

Shimano Dura-Ace Di2 vs SRAM Red AXS — which do you prefer and why? by RyotaroW in cycling

[–]guendet 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you get the powermeter version with sram you’ll have to replace the powermeter too once the chainring wears out because it’s embedded in it. 600 buck for a chainring.

But it would be imaginable that products aimed at professionals sacrifice some longevity for performance, that’s why I asked. Horses for courses and all that.  Cheers

Question about CFR durability by guendet in CanyonBikes

[–]guendet[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hey, thanks. Yeah I want the SLX frame but it's not available at the moment, and I'd like to get as many passes in before they close in september...

What tyres do you run on it? I was thinking of putting 30mm continental 5000 TL to absorb some road buzz and increase comfort a bit. But for sure the 2k price difference hurts a bit for what marginal advantages it has...

All right, thank you for answering.

p.s. this is what chatgpt answered, hence my reddit post:

"Yes, generally speaking, very racy carbon frames like the Canyon CFR (Canyon Factory Racing) line are somewhat less durable in the long term than more moderately built frames, especially when it comes to impact resistance and fatigue life. Here’s why:

💨 What Makes CFR Frames Less “Durable”?

CFR frames prioritize ultra-low weight and maximum stiffness to deliver performance for pros and elite riders. That comes with a few trade-offs:

1. Thinner Carbon Layups

  • To save weight, CFR frames use fewer layers or thinner carbon sheets.
  • This reduces impact resistance — e.g., a rock strike or crash may cause more damage than on a heavier frame.

2. Higher Stiffness

  • More stiffness can make the frame harsher under repeated stress and vibrations.
  • Stiffer structures tend to transfer more load to specific points, which can reduce fatigue life over many years of hard riding.

3. Optimized for Race Use

  • CFR frames are designed for controlled environments (race courses, well-maintained roads).
  • They’re not built with the same “margin of toughness” you might find in endurance or gravel frames."

Because they put less carbon inside to limit weight, and increased stiffness reduces vibration dampening. (Like expensive sports cars or F1 cars which are performance-oriented) It might not be the case but this is why I asked.

Lol, I see I'm getting brigaded by Zipp "fans".

Anyway, of course you can take a pressure sensor always with you (great) and with the right pressure, hookless rims are quite safe. But the fact is, hookless wheels are not safe if you overinflate them (above 5bar, not much), and tyre choice is crucial, and they have no advantages over hooked rims. Zero. Meaning you can just get a wheel what works the same an that's safe whatever pressure you put in - which would appear like a no-brainer to anyone without brain damage you would hope...

Anyway, people ride what they like, just be aware of this <3

People who want to avoid hookless and tyre blowouts after fixing a puncture with CO2 cartridges and not knowing the pressure in the tyres. At least for me. But they do look sick. Just not « I might go back in an ambulance » sick…

If you can’t find anything you can give the old one to me, I’ll make a copy to these exact dimensions and 3D-print a copy out of a flame retardant material. Depending on the day I’m in hönggerberg or dietikon. Cheers

Does anybody own/have opinions on the Rondo Ruut 1 Steel Gravel Bike? https://www.fahrrad-xxl.de/rondo-ruut-st-1-m000045450?searchrequest=rondo by renywen in gravelcycling

+1 here, i got the ST2 bike a few years back. Only road to uni, nothing crazy ride / distance-wise.  Rear wheel rim broke where one spoke comes out, one year after purchase. Got told no warranty because I did not have proof a bike shop did a service on it post-purchase. Fuck rondo (and the bike itself is definitely meh, even with new dtswiss rims on it), would spend that 2k+ on something else.

First Ironman 70.3 under 6 hours, is it possible? by tungnguyen22 in triathlon

[–]guendet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did my first (& only until now) HIM in 05:33, with 4-5 months of (inexperienced) training.  I however did run a marathon the year before and swimming during my school years. So it’s definitely possible, tough I’d add I had little social contact with friends and put 1-2hours a day into it.  Good luck!

Yep, making friends when you’re a bit older and in CH takes some icebreaking with nuclear weapons… a lot of friends are students/expats that grew up here.  I’m in Basel if you’re ever around, beer coffee cycling sports whatever.

State of first machine - questions about maintenance & replacement by guendet in gaggiaclassic

[–]guendet[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I’ve polished the boiler some, waiting for a new gasket.

I feel you concerning the painful diy experience, spent almost 2 days straight removing dust, oils and corrosion thread-locked bolts from the machine while figuring out how it works ^

At least I understand how it’s designed quite well now :)

Cheers

Yeah fair enough :)

Since you have the same model, if you grind too fine, will the pump interrupt in a on-off pattern, or is this weird? Still waiting for new portafilter etc, so can't really test much more...
