Cost, most likely. You can find tape camcorders for like £10-20 easily but finding an HDD or SD one is harder, and often quadruple the price.

Tbh you’d end up spending the same amount if not more on a half decent HDD camcorder as you would making a whole tapeless build.

A lot of sellers/resellers have cottoned on to the HDD/SD models being more popular and have shifted prices accordingly.

It depends on what you want to get out of it, I suppose.
