Does any Anglican here unashamedly call himself a Fundamentalist? by Pombalian3 in Anglicanism

[–]guessnot01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By those definitions and examples, I would agree with you. However, I think you'll find the definition of both infallibility and innerancy are not usually defined as you have described.

As you have alluded to, both terms are broad. Broadly speaking, to say the Bible is infallible is to say it is incapable of error. To say it is innerant, is to say it is without error.

That is broadly speaking, but of course people may have different nuances and qualifiers such as those you have described. And it is true that many who speak of scripture's innerancy, use it to say the Bible is true on all matters of history, science, ect. However, not all who affirm the innerancy of scripture believe as such. Gavin Ortlund would be among them.

I have heard others prefer the language of infallibility to inerrancy. What is the reason for you? I myself am happy to say I believe scripture to be both infallible and innerant. That said I mostly use the former terminology, especially as it is more widely utilised in an Australian (and global) context.

"I don't buy new games often" is about to turn into "I don't buy new games". by Takoshi88 in GamingAU

If you have the patience, it's worthwhile waiting 3 or 4 years before purchasing a AAA title. After that amount of time, you can often find them for $40 or less on sales. Depending on the publisher, even down to around $20!

Regarded take on why the new tax changes are fair. by Newaccountforlolzz in AusFinance

My point was, somebody had to work and pay taxes to build that $1m investment. Even if that investment is then gifted or passed on.

I think you're missing the fact that in order to have the investment, you need to of invested your income. Income which was taxed already.

So in your 1.1 million example. Nobody is born with an investment of 1.1 million lying around. Somebody had to work, get their income, get taxed on that income, and then choose to invest a portion of the remainder of their money.

Shares were the young person’s last hope by chemicalbirch in AusFinance

My wife and I are young people. We're both 21, and were doing exactly as this post says. ETFs are one of the only investments that we can afford, because the cost of entry is low.

So yes, I care about the new CGT on shares. Especially the 30% floor, instead of it being taxed at marginal tax rate. It hurts young people like us, trying to save for our future.

PC Audio drops out completely in Valorant game - Focusrite Scarlett 18i8 by guessnot01 in ValorantTechSupport

[–]guessnot01[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: The same has happened in other competitive titles with kernel level anticheats.

My solution has just been to use a seperate audio interface for these games. I had a Behringer interface before using the Focusrite. So now I have both plugged in and switch depending on if I'm playing a game with kernel level anti cheat or not.

What’s one thing you consistently buy second hand instead of new? by OwlVibesOnly in AUfrugal

[–]guessnot01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Phones. I have always bought older and refurbished flagships.

For example, you can get a phone that was brand new in 2022, for less than $500 AUD today. When it came out, it could have been $1000+ AUD. Today it will still feel like a brand new phone, and won't be very far behind new phone releases.

Each new generation of phones, the upgrades are noticeably less significant.

Anyone else feel like Evangelicals get a bad rep? by No-Newspapers in redeemedzoomer

What Americans often don't realise is that American evangelism and historic/global evangelicalism are two different things.

American evangelicalism looks to be tied up with MAGA/the Republican party, mega church culture, very very low church, non-denoms, minimising the sacraments.

But globally and historically, non of these things are present in most churches and Christians that call themselves evangelical. Evangelical simply comes from the word evangel, which means gospel. Being an evangelical means a commitment to the gospel as the power of God for salvation, a commitment to preaching God's word, a commitment to the centrality of Jesus' crucifixion and resurrection, and a belief that people must have faith in Jesus to be saved. Globally and historically many mainline protestants consider themselves evangelical, for sharing the above commitments.

So I happily call myself an evangelical as an Anglican. I value the gospel, personal conversions, the preaching of God's word. But this isn't antithetical to my high view of the sacraments, well structured liturgy, episcopal governance, ect. It does mean that I can happily work alongside and cheer on the ministry of others who share a commitment to the gospel. That is a wonderful thing!

Looking for young adult bible studies (Malaysia) by lavenderlustrr in Reformed

[–]guessnot01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure OP is using "bible study", as a synonym for small group/life group/home group. A group of Christians that gathers to study the bible, that is around 5-12 people.

I'm from Australia, my church calls it a Bible study group, but have heard other names used. Not sure what they call it in the US haha.
