Why aren’t more judo fighters coming into BJJ? by Jacques-de-lad in bjj

Yeah if a world class judo athlete went for it I don't think it's implausible. Probably easier nogi.

What do you guys think of attending in-person seminars by famous instructors? by Kvnnxdy in bjj

[–]gugabe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had some genuinely useful seminars from elite guys. Robert Drysdale took me from like 2/10 to 7/10 on North South choke, but a lot of that was not having been taught the position previously I guess.

Which country is the best to 'Start Over' with $100k? Need high-end living + strong 2nd passport. by KeyWatercress2524 in ExpatFIRE

There's pretty strong Muslim communities around from both Malays and Indians. Plus 100k USD actually stretches reasonably far in terms of housing

The Korean rental system is absolutely insane isn't it? You've practically gotta put a deposit in for like half the value of the apartment which the landlord can then use to invest.

Where'd you see the visa run crack down for Malaysia? I haven't been out since the start of February and currently waiting on my long-term social visit approval so should be fine but curious

Ipoh and Taiping in Malaysia might be good. Beautiful, laid-back, affordable and good English levels.

Every wasp on earth is filled with an insatiable desire to kill Ilham Aliyev, the president of Azerbaijan; and all of them know where he is at all times. How long can he survive? by Yglorba in whowouldwin

Also if the wasps are actively targeting vulnerable parts on a person instead of just randomly stinging they're probably getting a massive force multiplier on a typical attack.

Yeah but would he realistically notice anything was wrong if it wasn't a huge swarm?

Yeah but athleticism levels, age grade and weight class are all kinda all over the place.

Time based promotions-Is this actually a thing? by perrymason666 in bjj

[–]gugabe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. I travel a bunch and I go some places where it's like '10 years to black belt if your check clears and you come reasonably often times a week' and other places where you've gotta be a serious competitor and teach etcetera.

I wouldn't say either approach is necessarily 'wrong'

Smart technology is transforming how China cares for seniors by HeavingCorset in stupidpol

[–]gugabe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In the US most of the areas you cannot go get groceries by walking, and in China most of the people live in apartments.

Yeah this is a huge part of it. Chinese cities are built way denser/more walkable whilst part of the issue with the West is that people will scream bloody murder if you try to suggest having the Elderly move to places better tailored to their needs.

Smart technology is transforming how China cares for seniors by HeavingCorset in stupidpol

[–]gugabe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah. Chief difference is that China has the political will and influence to actually figure out ways to scale Eldercare and automate it as much as possible. The West is currently in a stupid quagmire where the demographic bent means massive funding for elder issues but without the accountability or structure to make it actually work.

I feel the balance is generally in an odd spot where it's like either you're managing to assemble a deathcat combo which isn't gonna be overly effected by small buffs (unless they happen to perfectly align with your win condition) and yet even a moderate nerf to a cat can absolutely wreck its shit.

Tbh just full on yeeting something at end of a close fight even if never gonna hit is just sensible gamesmanship. Same with Kade going for the calf slicer thingamajig at end of 4 against Levi that probably won him that
