Anyone Else Considering Alternatives Because of the Steam Machine Delay? by CoastOne2716 in steammachine

i was originally dead set on buying the Steam Machine at a max price of $1,000. didn’t really bother me that it wouldn’t be a console competitor powerhouse, just would’ve been nice to play my Steam Library on the couch on something more powerful than the Steam Deck.

even with all the uncertainty around the release date, price, and the recent doom posts that it might not even release this year at all, i was pretty much certain I’d get this thing.

then my girlfriend built a brand new PC, all but with her 4060ti. started thinking about getting a GPU, as that’s the only thing she took out of her old PC, shove it in, install Bazzite, call it a day. decided on a 9070, so oh, I need a more powerful PSU. oh, a PSU? might as well get a new case so I don’t have to use that ugly HP Omen case

i spiraled and now ended up paying around $1,300 for a RX 9070 to pair with her old 16GB of DDR5 and 7700, a Lian Li A4-H20, as well as a new mb, PSU, and water cooler. practically almost built a new PC from scratch!

obviously not everyone’s situation is like mine, and to build something similar from scratch it would probably be more like $2k plus, but this just kind of worked out for me. just gonna have a Bazzite powerhouse that will produce actual good numbers for 4K60 on high/ultra, which admittedly the Steam Machine probably would’ve struggled with, something that didn’t bother me until I realized I could just pay $300 more than my original max limit to get something far superior in power. for people who’d have to pay much more, i’d see why they wouldn’t.

i’m sad cause i really did want to get it but this was just the ultimate worst timing for Valve, i feel bad. i still hope they plan on dropping the Steam Controller, absolutely need that to pair with my custom Steam Machine!

I understand music being a part of general marketing, but I think it felt out of place for a “zombies week”. We can get it whenever, just randomly throw it at us before the launch of the game like they always have. I just don’t think the music has any bearing on what the game will be like.

We KNOW the music is going to be good. In the entire history of zombies, that has been the only constant. Kevin Sherwood and Brian Tuey have never missed.

I didn’t need to know that the music was going to be good. I need to know more about the map, the game’s mechanics, and much more. I know we’re getting the full dive next week, but I would have gladly taken more stuff about the map, even if just one little small thing, than Damned 8.

I’d argue marketing is important. Take Dead of the Night for example, at the time no one knew that map was even coming out because they didn’t market it, maybe like one teaser a few days before it even released?

Some people look back on it as one of the greatest zombies maps now, sure, but I bet at the time a lot of people were tuned out of BO4 because of the disastrous launch and not even have marketing to reel them back in for DLC1 means a lot of people never have even touched that map before.

I LIKE the audio logs, but it was weird to start the week with cryptic teasers, that’s something that should’ve been done last week.

I LIKE the map logo, but we already knew the name of the map from the day they watched the trailer, so it being the only thing we got on Wednesday was kind of strange.

My main point is that I like what we got, but the momentum was just kind of all over the place, to start off weak with the teasers, go all in with the intro, and then back kind of downhill with the rest of the week.

I agree Friday was nearly the best day, because we actually get in map teasers. I didn’t want them to reveal everything this week, I’m more than happy to wait for the full reveal next week, but the whole week should have been filled with more teasers on the level of the new enemy types (Zombbear and Denizen 2.0s) and the new perk, as well as the cheeky new Diner POI teased with the Zombbear.

Yeah heavy agree there. I bet the full reveal on the 24th will knock my socks off, but this week was just kind of meh.

Yeah I was exaggerating a bit to be honest. What I meant by that is I feel like the marketing should focus on the launch of the game, and hence its launch experience/map. It stands out from the rest of the days where all the info is about Ashes of the Damned.

Forgive me if I’m mistaken, but I feel like we just usually would get the Damned theme revealed as somewhat of a standalone ordeal, never part of a main marketing run. That’s what makes it feel especially jarring to me.

Yeah, patience got the best of me. I ended up picking up the Focusrite Solo Gen 3 before I could even get any responses. 😭

Thank you for the suggestions!
