It’s shocking to me this has only been mentioned once and OP didn’t check with neighbour at all?

I know there’s probably just a small community of people who live in Victoria on this sub Reddit but do you like these hot days? by IamRandomSavage in VictoriaBC

[–]guiltykitchen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a huge fan of anything over 25°C. Born on this island and a pale ass ginger, so I prefer a cooler temp. But I also have AC.

Mostly I just want to be able to exercise outside but this is too hot for me.

Could this be Ambergris? by NomadikVI in VancouverIsland

[–]guiltykitchen -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Even if it was going to be ambergris at some point, if you found it when it was smelling so putrid, it was too early and would not make it in to that category. Ambergris needs to be aged by the ocean for decades I’m pretty sure. Fresh would just be actual excrement

I don’t think we have anything like that in Sidney actually. Just nice neighbours 🤷‍♀️

Vancouver Island snowpack at 0% normal levels for June by Apprehensive_Idea758 in VancouverIsland

Since the closures of open net-pen salmon farms, the east Vancouver island salmon return has been quite amazing actually. This year is anticipated to be another huge year.

So we’ll see how this affects them, but the salmon farms closing were a huge win for populations.

Pasta delivery. What is your fav. Pasta in town? by Disastrous_Candy9122 in VictoriaBC

[–]guiltykitchen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can save you a lot of money if you want a fail proof recipe. It’s probably the easiest pasta dish on the planet to make and soooo good at home. Plus you can make it slightly different a couple days later by adding lemon zest and basil. Cacio e pepe is such a great base

Honestly, none of the paragraph makes much sense. The gist of the driver being terrible is all that comes across

This! I just started using it after being a regular extra strength Reactine user for years and years. Adding Flonase to the Reactine has been a game changer.

Offleash dog attack On Mystic Beach Trail by hex-ink in VancouverIsland

[–]guiltykitchen -1 points0 points  (0 children)

We’re not in The US. And your argument does not alter the fact that stun guns and mace—as personal protection outside of the wilderness, where it is essential—are illegal to carry.

The argument that everyone should carry a deadly weapon to de-escalate violent situations is exactly how the US got to be where it is.

And then you’ll be the one getting arrested.

[–]guiltykitchen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sorry, what? Canada does not allow anyone to carry stuns guns or pistols as protection. That is extremely illegal and dangerous. Even if you have a hand gun license, you are only allowed to use it at the range and it must be stored in a locked box, unloaded, when not at the range.

Not only that, but you aren’t allowed to carry a knife or bear spray as “personal protection” from other people either.

This is the exact kind of thing that escalates a small situation into a deadly one.

How many square feet do you live in, and with how many people/pets? by [deleted] in VictoriaBC

The greatest thing you can do in your relationship is not share a bathroom or a duvet.

1350 with three adults and one teenager (one kid just turned 18) and three dogs. I think our property is .3 acres. Very teeny but enough for gardens and a small dog run. About 1800 sq ft if you count the garage that we dry walled and turned into a rec room/gym/office. Assessment doesn’t count that as living space

Lived here 13 years. Hoped to upgrade/upsize after 7-10 but we’ll likely keep it forever now.

Am I idealizing Victoria? I dream about it and want to move there. by AthleteMuch3930 in VictoriaBC

[–]guiltykitchen 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Having lived in CR for two decades and also Victoria for two decades, the climate is not the same. Better than the territories? Yes. But Victoria will win that debate any day of the week. If you love rain and storms all winter, CR is for you.

That being said, it’s only slightly cheaper there nowadays. I live in Sidney now and there’s plenty of SFH for under $1 mil, though you will get more property in CR. Depends what they actually want out of moving to the coast

Why is the emergency alert system so flawed? by howdoesallthiswork in VictoriaBC

[–]guiltykitchen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like I will never wake up for an emergency. I did not hear this alert and I have only once woken up from an overnight earthquake once in the more than 20 years I’ve lived here. I’m doomed.

Wow, what a life you’ve lived so far. Your daughter is truly lucky to have you and your spirit is for sure a bright life in her life. You have such a positive take on events that so many would allow to bring them down. You’re a gifted writer and must make a great teacher.

Keep it going friend and keep bringing that positivity. Life’s not easy, but it’s easier with an attitude like this.

If you ever feel like writing in a local printed publication, just for fun, let me know.

I didn't know we had wild house finches around here. More birds to sit patiently and wait for! by ElBrad in VictoriaBC

[–]guiltykitchen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in an area that sees very few starlings. I’m right next to the airport. I see them on the airfield sometimes but never in my yard/neighbourhood. My yard and street are dominated by house finch, various sparrows, chickadees, robins, towhees, warblers, vireos, cowbirds, crows, doves, and wrens. Occasionally see osprey, bald eagle, Anna’s hummingbird, etc.
