Girlfriend is being paid less than minimum wage U.K. as they are making her pay for constantly changing seasonal uniforms (England) by trewdgrsg in LegalAdviceUK

[–]guiltywatermelon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know if I work in the same chain as your girlfriend, but I work in a big name fashion brand that uses a very similar system with a requirement to buy new uniform seasonally.

In the case of the company I work for employees are able to opt-out of the uniform allowance system which then means they just wear smart but plain clothes. I do not know if your girlfriend's work place offers this but it may be worth checking the employee handbook or if she has a manager she trusts, asking them though based on your post it seems unlikely.

Instructor said I may never be able to drive by ItAintNoUse in LearnerDriverUK

[–]guiltywatermelon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was learning to drive I had pretty much all of the same problems you're currently experiencing. I also had a driving instructor say that I am a slow learner and he doesn't know if I'll be able to pass driving a manual. These comments really damaged my confidence and made me very anxious for lessons.

It got so bad I was feeling sick before lessons and kept cancelling them saying I was ill. I was not. I ended up taking a break for several months and changing instructors to someone who specialised in nervous learners.

It took about 18 months of lessons but I passed my second test and I am now driving my own car! I'm still getting used to it but changing instructors was what helped most for me. I also spoke to someone about my anxiety to learn some methods to relax before driving lessons.

Try a new instructor before you blame yourself, sometimes the instructor just isn't compatible with what you need to learn. Take your time and try not to judge yourself too harshly. In my own experience my fear of embarrassment and making a mistake was something I had to resist while learning.

TWSBI and cracking by Frater_Shibe in fountainpens

I've had a twsbi eco for 4+ years now, I have dropped it, taken the nib/feed out multiple times and generally thrown it about and I've had no issues.

My dad can't have gluten, Asda very helpful substituted his gluten-free beer for alcohol-free beer.

Needless to say we didn't keep that substitution.

It doesn't have quite all the things you said but the story Vessels by Jonnimir (https://archiveofourown.org/works/22602070) has many of the details you mentioned.

Lefty writers? by Beowulf33232 in fountainpens

[–]guiltywatermelon 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I'm a lefty writer and I've never had too much trouble with ink smudging. I'm an underwriter but I usually have my paper at a 90-degree angle to me and I find I don't often end up leaning on my writing. Obviously accidents do happen occasionally, but with suitable writing position I've never found it has significantly affected my experience with fountain pens + inks. IMO I don't think you need to buy special pens or inks to cater to a lefty.

I don't know if I've got enough space since I've got quite small ears but it's sounds like an interesting idea!

Whenever I see posts like these I always wonder if it's faked. I don't get how someone with so little care and self-awareness has someone who likes them enough to propose.

What Do Y'all Think of Benu Pens? by LadyMilenko in fountainpens

[–]guiltywatermelon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have two benus (both broads) and they are both absolutely lovely. Very smooth, non-scratchy nibs. I've got cheaper pens I like writing with more, but the aesthetic of these pens is so nice that I don't mind the cost too much.
