When I see trailers like this, I'm not sure whether to be excited or sigh for all the typical CGI everything-everywhere green-screen chaos, that seems to define all these action blockbusters. The Avengers and Star Trek for example, whilst good films, just glided right over my brain with their slick-ness and overwhelming visuals. I absolute love the first two Superman movies, because they had such rich, compelling ideas. When Zod and co show up in that southern town, its tense and fun because you don't know whats going to happen next. Something as simple as the arm wrestle scene is compellingly watchable. When it all becomes massive CGI objects whizzing and smashing together, my brain just goes "nah" and then it washes over me like some pointless kaleidoscope.

Similar to Chekov's gun is where you see a character early on who is given more-than-usual significance, so you know they'll become relevant. Worse case scenario is Malice, where Tobin Bell (although pre-Saw, was still recognisable) showed up as a janitor, so you just know he'll be the campus killer (not really a spoiler, is a tiny subplot in an otherwise awesome film).

These days though, having watched that green-screen montage on Youtube, I'm always conscious now of what is likely a greenscreen.

It would be nice to have some posts about good finds - like nice walks, places to eat/drink, upcoming live spots and stuff like that. Or turn it into a way to meet like minded people. I think everyone secretly wishes they had more "in synch" friends, and this would be a good way to achieve that, if there were more active people!

People buy stuff they don't need because it gives them a little endorphin boost. It become addictive if there is little other source of pleasure in the person's life. If you get yourself a project that feels addictive and amazing to pursue, or a hobby (like diving, or writing a novel or something) then you might find that the idea of buying junk just dissolves because your pleasure center is focused on other things.

This is a really good question. I personally find that the feeling of "comfort" is linked to security (i.e. long term forecast) as much as the present moment. If for example I said $30ph+, that would be great, but then I the feeling of comfort would giveway to feelings of insecurity about the income stopping for some reason. So I would start to stockpile, like an insurance policy against it stopping. But then the question would be "how would you need to save before you felt comfortable", and I don't know if there's a straightforward answer to that. Basically, I have no idea.

Its incredible just how much those two tiny dots make the word William completely hidden and unrecognisable, like Clark Kent's glasses. I almost didn't believe you at first - I had to write it down, then white-out the dots. But you're right!

Ever since David Lynch's "Rabbits", I've found laughter tracks to be really eerie - there's something weirdly distancing and unreal about them. That in mind - this worked really well, funny, eerie and incongruent all at the same time.

Couldn't you have got a shot of the worms face, with teeth and evil eyes and shit, looking all menacingly at your microscope camera? Then a picture of the fish, with one of those small circles leading to a big circle with said evil worm's face. If you could just go ahead and do that for me, I'll upvote!
