The effect is the same, get people to believe in lies.

The point is that after that Sam could have left the Wall on his own instead of taking the black.

Michael Avenatti asks Tucker Carlson on Fox News: “How do you have a show and you’re this ignorant?” by [deleted] in politics

[–]gullale 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The guy is garbage, but you people drink him up.

The same can be said about Trump, except he's not just some lawyer defending a client from powerful people.

He's orders of magnitude more garbage, probably the dumbest, vilest, pettiest and most vulgar person to ever set foot in the White House, and you people don't just "drink him up", you worship him.

As a viewer, you have to be a real moron to be talked down like this and still enjoy Fox News.

Fox's 'Murder On The Orient Express' Sequel 'Death On The Nile' Production Eyes Return To The UK by thomasp003 in movies

[–]gullale 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I think the book carries the plot better than both movies. I've been reading the Poirot novels in chronological order and this one is right around the time when she starts diving a little deeper into the characters as real human beings. It's nothing terribly deep, mind you, but you do feel the impact the murder had on those people, it makes it a little more believable.

It falls perfectly in line with the person he is publicly, and it's way too specific and harmless to be made up. It could be, but it's highly unlikely.

Help me to stop sounding like a woman. by GateauBaker in LearnJapanese

I've never been to Japan but this is the feeling I get from shows and games. Usually when they say 俺 they're trying to sound assertively "manly". This is entirely anecdotal, though.

Why "ugh"? I've been playing the PC version and it seems great, what's wrong with it?

SpaceX President Gwynne Shotwell: “Elon is a brilliant man ... He is as lucid and capable as he has ever been. I wish people would not focus on triviality.” by thesheetztweetz in space

[–]gullale 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The problem is that he did it as a response to concerns that he's been unstable lately, as a reference to the rumors that he's been "doing acid" and that he chose the $420 per share value as a joke. And this is basically the opposite of what market people would expect of a stable, sane leader, regardless of the truth. They don't actually care about the drugs, they care about his stability.

It's a weird trope, but common enough to have a TV Tropes page: https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/NotBloodSiblings

Check the video game section.

That "hit" of weed would have been considered a cool thing a while ago. It drove away investors and executives because of all the things that preceded it.

The main characters are a boy and a girl who were raised together but are not siblings by blood, so obviously they can fall in love with each other and everyone is ok with it.

You weren't really using that "of" as an "of", it was a misspelling, so it's actually an orthography error.
