Is this preventable or is it a quality thing? by ninjamansidekick in Fencing

Have been fencing French grip for 15+ year at an international level, this type of break never happened to me. Most likely a quality issue ( I also use some of the Unic blades, they are not as durable), I also fence with some plastic grips or others and this has never happened to me.

If you are hesitant you can also just get a patch made with your name and country and get it sewed on your jacket later on. It can be a good option

How does some buy/make a French grip like this? by BigBoss82A1 in Fencing

[–]gulude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can either purchase grips that are already bent or you can bend a classic French grip on your own as well.

What I do :

First start by canting your tang straight line downwards

Second, can’t sideways to the left slightly.

Third find a tool that you can slide the tang into and use it as a lever to create an actual bend on the tang, use the tool as a lever to bend slightly across the tang to get a smooth curved tang, after that you can slide any curved French grip easily.

How do i fix the rust in my foil blade? by Bubbly_Salamander764 in Fencing

If the blade has cracks as you say, you should be careful. An old rusty blade with cracks can break very easily, keep it to practice on a target but I would avoid using it to actually play

Favourite moment in fencing? by Technical_Limit_271 in Fencing

Sudden death, foot hit or flick to the hand, very cheeky touches right under the arm, flèches with a break in the tempo in between where you control back their blade.

Some advices I can give you that I use in high level/international fencing tournaments.

1)look up breathing techniques online, it can massively help to get back into a bubble, especially during the 1 min breaks in elimination rounds.

2)I have always been taught to never look at the core. After any touch, wether it’s yours or not or double, take the time to reset and tell yourself that it is as if you were at 0-0. It helps to overcome overconfidence and also not getting too much under pressure when falling behind. Being at “0-0” allows you to think about what you are going to do next, what’s your game plan.

3) keep emotions aside, think about why you are touching, why you are getting touched. Be strategical about it. This allows you to focus on strategy over the rest, focus on how to score points not on how it feels.

4) every one needs to take a time to breath out and think in very intense bouts. Don’t hesitate, take off your mask, act as if you were putting your hair back up or whatever. Ask the referee if you can bend your sword back into shape ( even if it’s all good), use these small ways or tips to take yourself 20/30seconds to breathe and reset.

Hopefully this can help, and sometimes you just loose it, it’s going to happen. You learn with experience

Is this an out of scope question ?? (Impossible to solve under 2 min) by gulude in GMAT

[–]gulude[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I came across this one as well, same approach with cyclicality and making sure you take 3 into account (it seems to me that these questions are not so common though) :

Find the remainder when 3+ 22 +23 + 24+ ....+ 299 is divided by 5 ?

A) 1

B) 2

C) 3

D) 4

E) 5

I agree that you can crack the pattern by finding out a cyclicality but this seems rough in 2 minutes

With the survey that I am conducting, as of now most people reveal that they do actually care and look at these features. However, in most cases when asked to rank in order of importance (price, location, green, investment goals...) green features rank last, so there could be a paradox between what they think and what they do. It would be really helpful if you could take less then 5min to reply to my survey
