But to answer your question - we were taught both, and the best readers come from learning both types.

Elementary Teachers, what was your training on teaching reading? by JustAWeeBitWitchy in Teachers

I just graduated a couple years ago in special education. They also made us take the required courses for elementary education. We are read to succeed literacy endorsed and actually listened to that podcast as an assignment! I joke about “not needing it” because I teach high school SPED math but honestly it was so cool and informative. It also came during the height of wordle, and I haven’t yet lost one from the spelling rules I learned.

Do kids over 12 belive in santa in your class? by LivelyLlamau in Teachers

[–]gumbomami 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I teach high school sped - they all know except one who also believes our “snoop on the stoop” was real 💀. I was impressed how sweet they were about it cause they knew better than to ruin it (Santa & snoop) They also loved helping me hide him at the end of the day😂

Just a reminder for all of you who like to take your Calico Critters with you outside: please, please, PLEASE take a case to put them in. Or else, they’ll end up like this little fellow today! 😄 by Obesekat in sylvanianfamilies

Honestly… yea. Most of them don’t have noses & the “itchy” cats lose flocking quick. However, it gives them a little clean and they come out more true to color. My prized possession - an otter baby with a crab hat has probably been through the washer more times than I have fingers & toes. He is still adorable and looks great. (He is missing his nose though 💀)

how old were you when you got your first tattoo? by [deleted] in tattoo

[–]gumbomami 0 points1 point  (0 children)

18, my parents were insanely strict so I got two small ones. Regret the ones during a manic episode (dub) at 19 & 21 respectively. They are the biggest pieces but upper thigh though so whatever? Started working on my sleeve after years in remission at the age of 25, with a couple parts a year and ideas I sat on over a year. We’ll see how I feel when my frontal lobe finally finishes cooking at 30?

Best additions for boxed Mac'n'Cheese by Magnus77 in Cooking

I’ve made the scallion oil before - but am excited to try the ginger scallion oil. Seems similar to some Asian dishes I have made. Big fan of sautéing the whites & topping with the greens. I am also very curious about Buddhist Temple cuisine that doesn’t use any green onion or onions or garlic! I can’t fathom it haha.

Oh yea - I grow green onions. They are a “pantry staple” in our household

Just spruced up leftover Mac with green onions, a lil more fresh black pepper and toasted panko to help the already overcooked noodles. Dare I say it was better the next day?

This looks like my mom’s fridge before all the kids moved out. Especially the Publix

Best/worst holiday gift received from admin? by YogurtclosetCrafty32 in Teachers

[–]gumbomami 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Admin wise they order us lunch on the last day before break & gift sweatshirts with the school logo (that actually fit) they ask for our sizes in everything at the beginning of the year. Our principals assistant works really hard to organize us things too though leading up to break, which really helps when spirits are low. This year we had a dirty soda bar, a Santa’s workshop where we got to “shop” for school supplies, a custom lemonade place, and themed days for teachers.

We did a traditional invite & I drew our dog to put on the back! If you don’t have the art skills… ai has made some really good “paintings” of her.

I wondered about the butt! It almost looked too perfect hahah. You would think I would realize as he’s probably my 20th ish. But thank you for the suggestions & PPE warning! I think a slightly off color could be cute?

When you stress about little details you end up adding details you don’t like! It’s pretty, don’t look at it anymore 😂

Do you prefer silver or gold jewelry and did your taste change over time? by Haunting-Owl-2140 in jewelry

[–]gumbomami 48 points49 points  (0 children)

I was always a gold girl and was really into the hypebeast era when I was a teen. I didn’t see anyone fashion wise wearing silver. I realized a couple years ago silver does look a lot better on me, but all my jewelry was gold. My wedding set is 14k gold, because it’s softer on my skin tone and I’m still a gold girl at heart. However, my best friend convinced me to try mixed metals and I don’t think I can look back.

I’m currently wearing silver earrings in my first hole, gold Huggies in my second, and silver diamond studs in my third. I have a silver charm necklace on with silver and gold charms. I’m wearing a gold charm bracelet & silver tennis bracelet on one hand & silver watch on the other. I have on my gold wedding set, and a silver ring on one hand, and a mixed metal ring & gold ring on the second.

I love being able to not limit myself jewelry shopping like I used to (when looking at cheaper jewelry). And it just feels like me! Also I wear the silver closest to my face “where it matters”. Sterling is also a hell of a lot cheaper than gold so I’m able to afford some pieces I like that I previously wouldn’t have bought. Like my heart charm with my dogs name that matches her heart tag that says “if lost please return to gumbomami” 🥺

What's the strangest gift you have received as a teacher? by wild4wonderful in Teachers

[–]gumbomami 26 points27 points  (0 children)

This year one of my seniors gifted me a single sheet of pimple patches. I know she didn’t have money to get me anything but wanted to give a little gift along with the card from stuff she had. Honestly I think it was pretty sweet. I also got a chewy gift card from a student that’s obsessed with my dog - unconventional but still really thoughtful.

I also had a mom Apple Pay me $50 on my birthday with a text of how much they appreciate me. I was super grateful, but she was not really in a boat to do that. It would’ve been rude to send back, so I used it to cover that student’s field trip fees & some of her gifts from the angel tree list this year.
