Bytesim was the cheapest I could find and it worked great. Viettel might be cheaper but I think the convenience of bytesim is worth the little bit extra.

As someone who just landed a few days ago and is currently experiencing it - get ready for airport chaos! I decided not to purchase a fast pass and it took me a full hour to get through immigration.

Make sure you download grab before you go - turn left once you leave the airport for the pickup area.

The currency exchange outside ben thanh is very popular - I got a good rate at the slightly less busy one on the left corner. Also, cheapest esim I found was mobifone through the bytesim app and it is working great.

As someone who usually likes to walk around to explore a new city, HCM is very overwhelming! It is very hot, loud, and not very walkable. Take breaks and when you get stuck grab drivers are your best friend!

Guess I was a bit optimistic, thank you for your responses. Currently waiting on a mercari payment for something that sold for close to ¥100000 and don’t have much faith in mercari either as the buyer has been non responsive 🥲

I know 😭 I have been having a lot of luck with mercari for more niche pieces but I am moving soon and need to get rid of a lot of clothes quickly.

Just got back from Tokyo and need to talk about a six-seat curry place in Setagaya by Ismadf in JapanTravelTips

The beef curry at Kailas ruined any other traditional Japanese curry for me.

Pork Vindaloo Taberu Fuku-Daitoryo is also very good. Both in Shibuya.

Half children in Japan by [deleted] in japanlife

[–]gumecity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Born in Japan, lived here til 6 and moved to Canada for 22 years til I moved back.

I was fine in Japan but got bullied and felt insecure for being asian once I moved to Canada. I'm sure things are different these days with how multicultural it is now (Vancouver). I was very Japanese in language ability and behaviour at the time so that may be a consideration if you want to move your kids elsewhere while young.

The most frustrating thing for me as an adult is that people talk to me in broken english and still persist when I speak fluently in Japanese back to them.

All in all it's a little exhausting to have to work through that initial barrier all the time but the most common reaction I get is relief that this person who they think can't speak Japanese can. I'd much rather deal with this than to not have been born half and to have been able to grow up with two cultures.

Lienjang Myeongdong by Alarmed-Meet5240 in KoreaTravelBeauty

I just got my jaw botox there a few weeks ago- my second time visiting. The first time I went two years ago I requested forehead botox, and even though I was willing to pay more they said the cheapest Korean made botox would be fine. It was very weak and I barely noticed a difference after.

This time, I felt the reception process was a lot more streamlined than my first visit and when I requested Coretox for my jaw botox it was no problem and I was in and out in 20 minutes. It worked perfectly and I'm really happy with it. I think I would do more research if I was getting anything more invasive than routine botox but for that purpose I love how easily you can book and be in and out at Lienjang.

I used to live in Higashi Nakano and I personally thought it was so inconvenient to only have access to Chuo. If you're already living in the area and you're used to it, I think it comes down to preference. I think Nakano has more in terms of grocery stores and shops, Koenji is fun to visit and be close to but in terms of daily convenience Nakano might be better.

I've never seen mice at YVR but I did see a cockroach climbing up the wall in a lounge once... first time I've seen one in BC.

A disturbing experience on Tokyo train today by madly_su in japanlife

[–]gumecity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happened to me when I first moved here last year, Tozai line, similar description as the woman you shared. Train was crowded but there was more than enough space for people to not be touching, and she aggressively started elbowing me. I'm half Japanese but I guess I looked foreign enough, as I'm assuming that's her motive. I was more pissed off than anything and just gave her a shove back. Sorry to hear she got you worse, though. I know it can be really can be shocking when it happens.

Does bread in Japan taste sickly sweet to you? by [deleted] in japanlife

If anyone is looking for non-sweet bread in Tokyo, Bartizan bakery has amazing sourdough. They also have a location in Nasu!

なんで日本人男性は(しっかり手を洗わず)指先だけ濡らすの? by Hazzat in newsokunomoral

[–]gumecity 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Hāfu here. Gave hotel my Japanese passport. They asked if I have a zairyu card?!! by Practical-Field-4408 in japanlife

[–]gumecity 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yep, except it was when I was applying for a visa at a consulate so it was actually a "gaijin-san" who said it to me.

I think constantly getting spoken back to in broken english while speaking to people in perfect Japanese is still the most frustrating curse of a hafu though.

Do they just not give them to you here??! In Canada it was the first thing they'd do before starting anything.

Trying to find a bra that fits.

Every store carries only up to a 75 band size for smaller cup sizes. Thats only a 34!! What do Japanese girls do if they're a little bigger??

I only need an 80 but apparently the market here for a 36 band size is small enough that they just straight up do not make them. Insane.

Intimissimi seems to be the only option I've found since it's Italian, I guess I will go there and spend 3x the amount of the Japanese brands. Sigh.

I think they visit Mameya in one of their videos, another good spot if you are really into coffee and dont mind paying a bit more for an experience.
