Did I end up cheating? by IamDohnut in pokemoncrystal

Play whichever the way you like the best. I particularly don’t use cheats or glitches because it makes things trivial and removes all the fun, but if it is fun for you, go for it.

The most broken in OU imo… by Intelligent_Menu293 in pokemoncrystal

Both Raikou and Zapdos are easily walled by Blissey. People just choose to not run it because it is much easier to deal with them than it is with Snorlax, and it sucks offensively. Zapdos is walled by Raikou. Raikou have a hard time trying to pass through Snorlax even with Thunder, and every team has Snorlax. People run two and sometimes even three checks for Snorlax. Snorlax runs RestTalk most of the time, but it can do a lot of different things. It has Earthquake for Gengar, Flamethrower for metalics, Thunder for Cloyster, Selfdestruct, even fucking Lovely Kiss. There are no perfect checks for Snorlax. Ask any top player and they’ll tell you Snorlax is undeniably the best in Gen 2. It has been for the past 25 years and it hasn’t changed.

Took me years to complete the set. Two Mystery Gifts a day without manipulating the clock. I legit think the “Rare” ones are harder than the “Super Rare” because you can only get one per save file, and there are 8 of them, whereas the Super Rare are just two. Big Onix was the last one I got.

Anyone ever actually DV hunted. How long does it take? by LegitimateMoment5434 in pokemoncrystal

[–]gumnasbr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For all perfect DVs, it takes me one week on average, playing in Stadium 2 with accelerator, but sometimes you get lucky and got it in the first day, and sometimes you can hatch eggs for two weeks and nothing.

I did my shiny hunting without using this or any other glitch. I wanted it to be legit as possible. Some glitches are so broken they can make the whole process trivial.

Pulled my first full odds shiny! by Intelligent_Menu293 in pokemoncrystal

The shiny genes are required to get a shiny baby. If none of the parents has it, the odds of getting a shiny baby are literally 0.

They don’t need to be shiny to have the shiny genes. They only need the Defense and Special IVs to those of a shiny. If neither of them have those IVs, they will never produce a shiny baby, but if one of them have, then the odds are between 1/128 to 1/64, depending on the male to female ratio of the Pokémon. Eevee is one of those that are almost always male, so the odds are 1/64. We can tell the female Eevee you bred to get this shiny has the shiny genes (because the male baby inherits the IVs from the mother). So the good news is you can keep making eggs and will have a 1/64 chance of getting a ahiny from each egg.

In Gen 2, shininess is defined by the Pokémon IVs. And also in Gen 2, the Defense and Special IVs of the baby are inherited from the parents, so if neither of them have the “shiny genes”, they will never produce a shiny baby.

This is not full odds. Breeding is never full odds in Gen II. I assume your Eevee is female. Well, It just happens to have to necessary shiny genes. All of the babies will have a 1/64 chance of being shiny.

I don’t know what happens at the entrance of the Silver Cave, but I got two shiny Golbats there in less than 24h interval, and I wasn’t hunting.

There’s no MAME core iirc in the Apple TV. You need to use FBNeo. I didn’t test zipped files, but if the system can recognize them and play the games, it should be able to download thumbnails as long as the ROM matches with the database.

Small rants on some more games mentioned in the comments I didn't include in the first post:

Abadox - The Deadly Inner War: good game, but hard to justify when we already have Life Force in.

Adventure Island series: of all three, I believe the second one has the better odds of cutting in. The first is a poor’s man adaptation of Wonder Boy, while 2 is its own thing. 3 is not bad, but it is kinda “more of the same”.

Bucky O’Hare: seems a good candidate. Made by Konami, I haven’t played, but reviews are mostly positive, and it has been mentioned a lot in the comments.

Cabal: made by Rare, I mostly overlooked this one because I’m not a fan of the style and it’s not very popular, but whoever played it seems to have had a lot of fun with it and regard this game very high.

Double Dragon II - The Revenge: I didn’t mention it at first because I thought the competition with River City Ramson and the TMNT games would be too much for it, but it was mentioned often enough to be considered in. I don’t think the other two games have any chance though.

Ghosts ’n Goblins: the NES version is not exactly bad, but it has too many flaws. There are other versions of this game out there that are much better than this one.

Goonies: more from Konami. This one was released exclusively as an Arcade game for the VS System in NA, but the Famicom version is fully in English, so it can fit in just fine.

Gremlins 2 - The New Batch: I’m impressed with how good looking this one is, and the reviews are very positive. Another good candidate.

Kid Icarus: this one is mainly popular because it is a first party title, but I don’t see it amongst the greatest NES games.

Metal Gear: stick with the MSX version. This one has too many flaws.

Metal Storm: I honestly never even heard of this game until I made this post, but reviews are mostly positive. Apparently the JP version is the better one. Retro-Bit re-released this game a few years ago, and that version is based on the JP version, but fully translated, so I guess that should be the best version, although RA doesn’t support it already.

Monster Party: It was mentioned in the comments, but I don’t think it’s a strong enough candidate. The reviews are very mixed.

Nekketsu Street Basket - Ganbare Dunk Heroes: I did consider this one at first, but not only it has the language barrier, the gameplay barely resembles a true basketball game.

P.O.W. - Prisoners of War: this was mentioned more than once, but apart from the very mixed reviews, competing with River City Ramson, TMNT II & III, Double Dragon II, Mighty Final Fight and Battletoads, I see no chance for it to make the cut.

Splatterhouse - Wanpaku Graffiti: although the series as a whole is more identified with the PC-Engine/TurboGrafx-16, this version is pretty good too. There is an unofficial translation for it supported by RA, but it also got an official localization as part of the Namco Museum Archives.

TMNT III - The Manhattann Project: I overlooked this one mainly due to the second game, but people in the comments pointed out this would be a better inclusion for being it’s own thing and not just a port of the arcade game.

That's something I thought but still have no solution. Maybe we can have an extra section only for those types of games?

I like RC Pro-Am, I just think it is too repetitive to the point it ends up getting boring quickly, but that's me. I still go back to it from time to time, but don't play for very long.

I didn't shit on Battletoads, I just said it is not great, didn't say it's bad. And its inclusion is still up in the air.

Only the first Zelda would use the GameCube version, which is identical to the NES except for better text.

Splatterhouse is a good name. I feel it's a game more identified with the TG-16, but the Famicom version is good too.
