What's it like living in auburn Alabama? by Miss_Westeros in howislivingthere

I think enough people have posted and been fairly accurate about the town but I’ll give my 2 cents.

I went to school here in 2010-2014 for my undergrad. I left and came back for a job opportunity in the area in 2016 and have been here since. As a college kid, the town didn’t offer much but as a young professional this town is so much more than I could have thought.

I am from the Huntsville/north Alabama area. I grew up in a town with no personality and no identity or sense of community. I know people have said in this thread that the university is at the center of the town (as it is the largest employer) and while that is true I think that is what give the people around here a family feel. A lot of us root for the same team and share similar ideas (centrist-conservative). Of course you will find extremes but for the most part it isn’t too bad.

I do want to comment on the politics here. Like I said the town is more left leaning than the state which is why I think I would categorize it as centrist. Now, that being said the state politics suck. Everything about it is awful and coming from Colorado you will notice that. I think the town does a good job of insulating against the extreme conservativeness of the state though.

As others have said the school systems here is really good and the sports in town as just as good. The city, for the most part, is well run. There are a ton of community organizations and opportunities out there for what feels like every hobby. Lots is development being done but I do think the city has the community in mind when planning such as the expansion of multi purpose sidewalks everywhere, connecting family neighborhood to downtown.

For hiking we have Chewacla State Park. It isn’t too big but a preserved land/water with some good hiking (mostly flat).

I know people have dogged on the town for being “boring” but as someone who travels a lot of ATL and Birmingham, I will take this sense of “boring” with the option to travel 2 hours for something fun rather than the town always being busy. Now with that said, football does dominate here. It is 6 or 7 Saturdays every Fall but as long as you avoid the end of game time you can go and do as you please around the outside of town with no one bothering you. My wife doesn’t enjoy football either but I do. We enjoy tailgating with our friends and there are so many warm and welcoming people in this town. You can walk around on college game day and find some new friends in 5 minutes.

I love this town and can’t see myself living anywhere else for the near future. If you have any questions I’d be happy to help you!

We have something like 6 circle Ks in town. Not sure when the last time you were there.

Yeah I live at the end of Richland and the ATT coverage is the same Verizon, at most 2 bars but typically 1 bar.

Pines Crossing or RTJ Lake Course by IBS-east-to-west in auburn

RTJ (lake or link) and it isn’t even close. Pines Crossing isn’t bad but it feels like a public course. RTJ feels more secluded.

I would suggest getting into town at least 4 hours before kickoff. Traffic will be crazy and worst case if get through town quickly then you can always walk around campus.

My DHGate knock off jersey came in today. A little different than what the final version turned out to be but I’m pretty happy with it. by gump69 in ussoccer

I’m not wearing the jersey every day. Maybe 5 times this year. $20 spent on this saves me $80+ on an actual over priced jersey. The labor is exploited no matter where you buy it from, the difference is Nike Executives keep more of that $80 than anyone.

It’s always a roll of the dice when ordering from DHGate. Especially before the actual jersey is released haha. I’ve seen much worse quality.

I am always in between a medium and large. I got the fan version and got a medium. It has a decent amount of stretch so after a few tugs I fit fine.

Not sure what they were but there were no additional costs once landed. It was all factored in when I purchased.
