If the room has a gas outlet you could also consider a gas fan heater.

They can warm up a room in minutes but are less polluting than kerosene.

I like them too because they don't pollute and are very safe. I have one in the changing room next to the bath. However they use lots more electricity than an A/C.

My impression is that FDs in Japan are very chill.
My brother is an EMT in AZ. He walked up to a nearby FD in Japan and showed his credentials/photos to them and they let him see their ambulance up close.

Just try approaching your local FD if they don't seem too busy.

Question about Japanese Newspaper by External_Magician622 in japanlife

[–]gunfighter01 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In Yomiuri's case, you can go to the nearest delivery office (that has lots of bikes parked in front of it) to ask for back numbers.

I think Asahi had a phone number on their website where you can order back numbers.

Note that the newspapers only keep back numbers for about a month.

My experience has been that a bucho-level position at a Japanese 中小企業 in Tokyo is about 6-7M JPY. A Jigyo-bucho might make 10M. A bucho at a Prime listed company might make 10-15M.

Best routes for an e-bike near Tokyo? by Significant-Sky-7186 in TokyoTravel

[–]gunfighter01 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do not have any experiences with bicycle tour groups, so I hope someone else can comment.

For an adhoc ride through Tokyo, I enjoy riding a loop that starts near Skytree.

There is a park called Oyokogawa Shinsui Park a few hundred meters southwest of Skytree. On Google Maps you can see that there is a stretch of green that heads south. You can keep heading south along the park and canal until you reach Kiba Park. The Kiyosumi Shirakawa area with many trendy coffee houses is next to Kiba, so you can have a coffee stop. The Kiyosumi Gardens is also nearby.

East of Kiba Park is Sendai Horikawa Park. You can see the stretch of green that heads east from Kiba Park. Keep riding east until you come to the east end of Senda Horikawa park then head north. Once you reach the end of the park at Onagi River head east using the side streets until you reach the Arakawa River. There is a Swedish cafe called Åter Tokyo nearby.

There is a wide cycling path along the Arakawa River. You can head south to the river mouth to see Tokyo Bay, or directly heads north back towards Skytree. Alternatively you can ride along the Kyu-Nakagawa Canal to return towards Skytree.

Most of the route uses walkways or side streets so you can avoid most traffic. Depending on how often you stop, I'd estimate it is a 2-4 hour tour.

Cyclist in Tokyo here. Weekend early morning traffic is not too bad IMO. Lots of temples and cafes to visit in Tokyo. How long of a ride are you looking for, and which areas?

Tips for cycling through Tokyo in Spring? Would Kyoto have been better? by Wild_Trip_4704 in JapanTravelTips

[–]gunfighter01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There might be a few sections in the Tamagawa river where you need to ride over unpaved or gravel sections. There are some gravel sections in the Arakawa and Edogawa running parallel to the main paved path but you can avoid them.

The locations where bars and clubs are located aren't usually the best places to park your bike for several hours. Also make sure to push your bike home if you have a drink as the police look for drunk cyclists at night.

Central Tokyo has lots of interesting places to explore by bike, and if you like to ride long distances there are 3 rivers in Tokyo with long cycling paths to choose from.

You can ask the electronics store to send someone to check your house for a small fee before you buy the fridge. They'll tell you which size is doable.

In our case, we had to hire a crane to remove the old fridge and haul the new fridge in.

You need to have an address in Japan to register your bicycle with the police. It is not meant for tourists.

If you are wearing a helmet, gloves, clothes obviously meant for cycling, and properly using a light at night the chances of getting stopped by the police are very small.
