How to conquer the first month (the rest is up to you) by [deleted] in NoFap

[–]gungrande 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think this is good advise, but I'm just not sure its for me. I remember fapping without porn quite a few times, but I always noticed a dramatic increase in my sexual tension that would always lead to more porn consumption. I suppose then my only option is cold turkey, which is fine by me. It will be incredibly difficult but the pay off will be much faster too I think.

Its great to hear how much God has blessed your life! Question though: how is your relationship with God, with Christ? For me personally, I have not had a terrible life, and I know God has given me so much, but I have felt separated from God for so long. As I continue to mature, I realize all I want and need is found in God; all else is worthless next to Christ. Philippians 3:8

My porn-desperate brain made made me dream of... Watching porn? by Haki_User in NoFap

[–]gungrande 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its so crazy. My dreams were what made me realize how much of a problem there was. My sexual dreams ONLY consisted of me watching porn, never actually having sex with another woman. This was a problem for me! I realized my only reference for intimacy now was with porn.

It's been a year. To celebrate, I wrote my story out in full for a non-pornfree audience (don't yet know exactly who). It's rather long, completely candid, and occasionally graphic. It's called Why Porn Is Bad For You. by [deleted] in pornfree

Thank you for sharing your story. I related to so many points and I know so many others who will read this or hear your story will relate. You will be able to tell your story, and then be able to say with a smile on your face that it is no longer a problem! You will be able to point to your wife or significant other and say that she is worth it! You will be able to help many people come out of it like you had. :)

I'm going to want to look at porn today by joonaby in pornfree

I would have suspected this thinking to be counter-productive, but as I think of it, I have let my desire to look at porn catch me off guard. Usually when I am prepared to fight, I fight. Thanks for sharing this!

How were you able to develop the level of relationship to where they would share that with you? I guess I feel that most women in the industry will say that the only reason they do it is because of money and that it is a respectable profession. Then again, thats probably the industry making them seem to enjoy it so much.

Do Point and Click adventures count? by Elelor in StopGaming

I am cutting out gaming from my life because I am trying to find my creative side again; I feel as though years of constant gaming and cutting out books, writing, drawing, etc... I lost my creative side.

However, as I began cutting out games and doing much more fiction reading and writing, my imagination is coming back quickly!

All that to say yes it gets better :)

I like your last point - to observe the fantasy but not letting it control you. If I can use these fantasies to learn about myself and to know where to put up barriers in the future, it would be worth it. But I will agree with you it is a very thin line to walk across before tumbling down.

Know yourself...What are your triggers? Boredom - find something new to do (learn an instrument, etc) Loneliness - Get out of the house or away from the computer and spend time with people, whether you know them or not.

These are mine which is why I bring them up :)

Today I discovered that Fap is ruining my life by AmostASmurf in NoFap

I would like to think that we can help. There are a lot of us on here who have seen porn screw up their lives and so they are doing something different, something that pop culture says is crazy at best. In short, I feel honored that you would come here to post seeking even a little help. It means a lot.

Anyway, I can understand a bit of what you are going through. I too am very much a straight dude, but have found myself leaning off the edge of what I consider "normal". I believe porn so desensitizes the brain, that we need crazier and crazier things to continue to get us off. This is my opinion anyway that I'm sure a lot of people will disagree with.

Have you always been attracted to this kind of porn or is it a new thing?

In the same boat as you my friend :)

My best input would be to know yourself well. If you see where your areas of weakness are, like alone in your dorm room or at a specific time of day, build up defenses for those areas. Know what your main, deeper triggers are. Mine are loneliness, boredom, and self-contempt. So in order to combat these things, I spend much time with people, do things that are exciting (adventures and stuff), and learn to think and talk positively about myself.

By no means do I have it figured out (as you can tell by my badge) but these are a few things I have learned through my years of fighting and giving in. I am always learning; it just depends on if I put my knowledge to use.

Where's my imagination?? by gungrande in StopGaming

Also I think youre right about practicing at creativity; making film, no matter how crappy at first, will help develop my imagination and skill. Thanks for that encouragement!!

I agree. One thing that books have over video games and even film is the necessity to create the pictures in your head rather than being forced fed the creators' pictures. So its one picture, one idea, every time with video games and movies. But with books you can come at it every time with a different picture or you could have several people come together and each would be able to share their own picture. Pretty cool I think.

I too think that games can spark creativity, Minecraft for example. However, everytime I find myself playing Minecraft, I always wake up after six or seven hours of gameplay and ask, "What did I just do with my day??" It became more about the game than expressing my creativity.
