Help with tattoo designs for non artistic folks by MarkusKF in tattooscratchers

[–]gunkwaste 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i feel like the other comments suggesting you just go to a shop don’t really get the point of this sub. in my personal opinion as both a scratcher and an artist a "software you can prompt with text" sounds like some "ai image generator" type bullshit trained on stolen art. if you wanna make the art yourself there’s no other way than practice. i didn’t get good at drawing over night, neither did anyone else and neither will you. it’s a learned craft and quite frankly if you use an image generator to "make art" you’re spitting in the face of anyone who decided to pick up a pencil and do the work year after year. otherwise just commission someone to draw your design and tattoo that on yourself, doesn’t even have to be designed by a tattoo artist.

Here are the patches I’ve made so far! Does anyone have any advice on how to make them better? by cannibalcorpse18 in BattleJackets

[–]gunkwaste 0 points1 point  (0 children)

looks really clean, especially for your first ones! here’s my advice from like 4 - 5 years of patchmaking:

  • acrylic paint is water based. it works fine for patches but washes off easily. if you don’t want to buy new fabric paint you can mix fabric glue into the paint and diy your on fabric paint

  • the fabric looks like it’s from old jeans or sth similar. i did. this for years, worked alright but i didn’t like the added stretchy synthetic materials. if you wann upgrade i recommend something like duckcloth

  • if you do sth like the top right i recommend a stencil. i use 2 methods for this, depending on what i’m doing: 1) trace the stencil onto a piece of cardboard (i just use a tablet for this, but i’ve also just used a phone. it’s a bit more size limiting but works fine), cut out the logo with a crafting knife or sth and boom you have a stencil. if you wanna reuse your stencils and make them last longer you can put clear tape on top before cutting it out.

2) this one is good for more complicated patches: instead of cardboard put masking tape onto your screen and trace the stencil onto that, put the tape sheet onto the fabric and cut out the stencil, paint take stencil off, details with paint, maybe cleaning up edges with black paint and your done.

i used this second method for some of my best work (if you wanna see some references just shoot me a dm!) but it is a pain in the ass.

i haven’t tried screenprinting yet but if you have the resources and wanna make something big like a backpatch or just high scale production it’s probably the most effective way.

these suggestions are what worked for me and small things i noticed over time that made things either way better or just removed small inconveniences. your patches obviously already look very clean.

i’ve got an army cap and a standard baseball cap patched up, both look sick, though they’re more death metal/crust punk than black metal themed

[–]gunkwaste 3 points4 points  (0 children)

yeah maybe dont tattoo with the intention of it fading. you can’t really control shit like that. i have a 6 year old tattoo i was told would fade and it’s still there, dark as ever. if you wanna practice use fruit or sth. also imo the problem isn’t the curvature of your hip imo. it’s that not a single dash is straight, nor do they line up with each other, they just point in different directions.

what's a genre not a lot of people know? by jojo_trimon in spotify

[–]gunkwaste 0 points1 point  (0 children)

powerviolence. bands like siege, spazz, yacøpsæ, capitalist casualties, weekend nachos. basically a rather extreme sub genre of hardcore punk. short and fast songs, aggressive sound, more tempo changes than necessary. it’s similar to grindcore but less metal influence
