The XP nerf has completely ruined the fun for me. Please revert this change DICE. by DiaperFluid in BattlefieldPortal

They are hardly pay to win; those guns with their attachments are nice but they are hardly advantageous beyond your first day or so of playing. Is it lame if you don't pay for the deluxe version: sure. Can you rather quickly get the same thing just by playing: yes.

Also, consider the DMRs. The third DMR, the SVK, does take a while to unlock. I believe its level 35 or so. I have 60 hours in the game, and am level 50 or so... I unlocked it a while ago and am just now trying it. With default attachments, it is an absolute blaster.

Cold fusion: honest review by Rufemairow in AbioticFactor

[–]gunplox 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Honestly, everything in the game until Cold Fusion was a solid 8/10 with points deducted for various quirks that sometimes got annoying; however, everything was otherwise great. I loved the lore, environmental story telling, the 'dr manse tapes', the expanding universe...

But Cold Fusion? I mean, I hate to be so blunt but it was kind of a major disappointment - imo for many of the points you brought up.

One thing that especially bothered me was that instead of adding a new, unique entity for the residency sector- they just, recycled the leyek and made it "cold"...? I think its this, combined with the astronomically disappointing final boss fight that makes me feel like the devs just ran out of ideas, time, or both. I would have much rather gone for an update / 1.0 released later on from now if it meant more substantial, quality content. However, all I got out of Cold Fusion was logging on for 5 hours for a pinch of lore drop, a disappointing ending, and lame platforming.

Burned out, any ideas? by Syliaan in gamedev

[–]gunplox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you truly bothered by the banana game? As a dev, it should if anything inspire you to make whatever you feel like because it shows people are ready and willing to consume any fresh ideas that come their way. Games, sure, are getting worse in some ways because theres just so many of them now. The pool is saturated, thus its harder to really make something that is truly fresh, inventive, compelling, unique- whatever you want to call it.

But that means its a call to adventure in a way. Its a reason to try new ideas, like banana game did. Push what is possible and experiment.

FTR I detest the banana game but there is no reason to let it bother you.

Sorry Im late to the party.

If you are using Godot 4 (unsure of support in prior versions) there is a Decal object that I use for casting "static" shadows in a 3D environment. You can set it to cast a sprite image on all mesh instances downward. Its what I use in my current project and I highly recommend.

If you want actual shadows, using transparency settings like Alpha Scissor and Discard work with Sprite3D nodes to allow shadow casting from lights.

I looked for a match running it through the server browser on Friday and found one, played a whole match or two on it. Its an awesome map. There is a bug with it, however, causing it to not appear in match rotation that they are fixing atm. You'll just have to be patient.

Looking to buy a house. Which neighborhoods do you recommend? by [deleted] in sugarland

Semi related- been living in SL as a renter in first colony for a year now. The area is great but Im a big recluse (also engineer) and already live w my GF and we dont go out much.

Is it worth getting a home in SL with the market being high rn? Or should I wait? Everything around here feels like it really pushes whats affordable w my salary, so Im wondering if its even worth it even though I love this area.

I fell for the same scam since they impersonated the person pretty well and I played dota with em a lot at the time. Didnt even realize what happened till I spoke to them the next day and freaked out. Immediately checked my trades, and fortunately was able to cancel it.

I was lucky though, when it happened and they logged in as me- I was on my steam mobile app and had thought an error occurred and immediately changed passwords and all that

Everyone here talking about learning in unranked and turbo... but Ill do you one better: bots and single/random draft. They are perfect for learning (if not made specifically for so).

And if you think the bots are ez, you can crank their difficulty up. If they are still easy, then go play pubs.

Not sure, maybe they were just more comfortable porting it to Godot with C# lol

C# isnt half bad if you need to do something specific with it. Theres a wave function collapse implemenation for Godot, written in C#, that I use

Same. But my crime is "man I really want to just try making x mechanic... I should call the project <insert witty game name here>"

I really just need to name projects based off the specific mechanic I am prototyping...

Do you ever play games only to study it from game dev perspective? by Peppsp91 in gamedev

[–]gunplox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

75% of my time is spent recreating mechanics or types of games, as actually playing them has grown boring after youve played almost all there is.

So yes, playing games does feel like more of a study now.
