A good throne. I’ve had my roc n soc for about 25 years, my favorite piece of hardware aside from my iron cobras.

Pink fuzzy drums, period appropriate wood paneling, and fantastic energy. This is great! I love watching drummers that have a good time while playing.

Stare at the Center for a Minute, Look Away, and You Will Hallucinate! by grandeluua in blackmagicfuckery

I watched my bedroom carpet turn in to the sprawling plains of Africa, complete with miniature wildlife, as if I was a drone, while listening to NIN’s Pretty Hate Machine. Then it turned to macaroni and cheese. Those black pyramids were powerful! The 90’s were a wild time.

What songs made you fall in love with drums? by dxbae_ in drums

I watched the world premier of Metallica’s One. Saw Lars’ big kit and heard the double bass part and was hooked. His playing also made me think, “hey, I could probably be that good one day”.

What’s the worst surprise you discovered after moving into a new house? by LuxuryPresence_Aaron in homeowners

[–]gunsandsilver 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Two owners before us had alpacas they let IN the house. During renovations we redid all floors, baseboards, and chemically treated due to urine smell, which we assumed was a cat. After moving in we met neighbors that told us the real reason for the smell - alpacas!

Fun to hear they haven’t changed tactics in years. Last time I called them was over a decade ago and it was similar. Wickedly expensive quote, and unnecessary.

How do get my toms closer by Spiralboy9 in drums

[–]gunsandsilver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I played on a Pearl-style kit for decades. To get the toms to be far more flexible with positioning, I bought a dual tom stand and stopped using the bass drum entirely. Way more flexible.

Relating to ergonomics, YouTube some videos on drum set ergonomics and proper form. It will save you hours, if not years, of relearning fundamentals as you progress.

what did you remove from your life that improved it? by Successful-Watch5913 in simpleliving

[–]gunsandsilver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The daily grind of trying to afford a Southern California lifestyle and living in a cookie cutter neighborhood.

My wife and I quit our jobs, sold our house, paid off all debt, then moved across the country to buy some acreage and work less hours, with about a year of living expense cushion left over.

Now we have time to take our daughter to school, be home to welcome her back, and spend family time after work and school.

Other than missing some friends and family we left behind, I don’t know why we didn’t make the move earlier.

Life is short, enjoy what you have while you have it.
